- A breast cancer diagnosis is usually a life trajectory changing events in a woman's life. Surgery and treatment often radically change a woman's body and then women get told to go get a prosthetic without a lot of further information. In this series of videos Angela explains what to look for in bras and prosthetics/breast forms during the various stages of healing.

I'm so glad I "found" your video. You answered many of my questions. I had my left mastectomy on 9-27-2022, almost 2 months ago, and I haven't figured out the whole bra situation. Obviously my old bras don't really work for me now and at home I just go braless. But when I go out in public I'm a bit uncomfortable, especially when wearing a t-shirt and no sweater. Now I know what to look for. Thank you.
......very useful vedio. Thakyou very much.
I had a mastectomy and immediate silicone implant December 1st 2022. There was a wound the size of a quarter round right from the start. It wouldn't heal and got bad infection, and March 2nd 2023 I had to have the implant removed. Then had a stitch that got infected, still dealing with that. Had to cancel my fitting for bra and prosthesis for a week or two, as the wound is there. I'm on the fence about another implant. In the meantime I'll try a prosthesis, I've heard pro's and cons of both. I must admit, I liked the appearance of the implant and not the flat spot in the mirror. The doctor left lots of skin for it but I can't deal with all the infection again.
Hi Linda, We are sorry to hear that your healing journey has not gone according to plan. While I believe in the wonderful and amazing ability for the body to heal sometimes what we need is time. Choosing to go with a prosthesis for a while to give your body the time to heal is a great option, and then later you can always reconsider the implant/reconstruction option. I'm typically the worst for being patient with the time it takes to heal my body however I have learned (the hard way) that slowing down, doing the self care and having some patience and grace in the healing process usually gets me to the results I ultimately want sooner. Take good care of yourself , wishing you all the best in your journey - heal well!
@@EsteemLingerie Thank you for the kind words. I saw the breast surgeon yesterday and she enlightened me on a few things. She said that I was not ready for the prosthesis because I have a mound of skin and they are made for a flat chest and it would rub and make sores. The doctor gave me a thing called a knitted knocker (you can Google it) to put in my bra to fill in the gap for now. Then she let me feel a prosthesis and to my surprise it was heavy, I had no idea. It was like a bean bag. If I go with another implant I think the doctor will try an expander first instead of just putting in the implant. I probably should have tried the expander first instead of immediate silicone implant. Like you said, I should have taken my time to heal from the mastectomy.
I still cannot wear bra 2 years later due to massive neuoropathic pain. I have very small breasts. (Well one).
I had a single mastectomy it's really awkward when wearing my clothes 😢
Are you planning to get reconstruction?
I just had a bilateral mastectomy almost 4 weeks ago. So yes I’m still healing but wearing any bra makes the itching so much worse. How can I ease that?
Hi Nonya, Skin sensitivity can be an on going issue after any surgery during the healing process and sometimes beyond. First thing I recommend is to put your bras or camis (whatever you are wearing as your first layer touching the skin) through a vinegar soak (see our vinegar soak video for instructions) - After the soak - wash everything in the machine on delicate with more vinegar, no soap. This will hopefully release all soap residues and body oils. It will also purify the underwear killing any bacteria. Hopefully this will make it soft enough for you that it won't irritate the healing skin any further. The other thing I recommend is the change up... if something starts to irritate after a couple of hours of wearing - change the underwear, it gives the body the break from whatever is irritating it and helps refocus the nervous system. Don't forget to hydrate well and get optimal nutrition and sleep, heal from the inside out. Good luck with the process and all the best wishes for healing!
Am in need
Where do I order pls
Get to the pointy please.
patience 😉
My mother had a bilateral mastectomy and is not able to find a bra that will not ride up making it appear that the two prosthetics are sitting too high on her chest. Do you have any suggestions?
