Found out (after recording this episode) that pit stops are off because the races aren't long enough to warrant them! We may extend the length of the races, or just turn tire wear and everything back to normal. I haven't decided yet :)

4x consumption and change your player tire settings to more grip, and less wear. On 13% races everyone will pit around the same few laps and makes for a much better experience.

It seems like eveyone starts slowing down and you start passing eveyone when you start losing tire grip and getting loose. Maybe they are slowing down to maintain control?
Your exactly right. That's how it works, and when you certain settings tweaked so that it's even harder for the AI to maintain control, you can really start to fly by the entire roster

Honestly, as someone that has played these games every year along with iRacing. I am hoping these games get to where they need to be. There's no excuse for where they are at right now. The issue you're dealing with being loose is an issue with this game. There is no sweet spot. The community as been asking for advancements for years but have got nowhere so far. I'm hoping this game is this bad simply because they are working on the next title for the next gen system but very low hopes at this point.

Trev, ai only pit for fuel, so they will go to the pits at the last second
Loose makes it way easier to turn, yet it makes it so you get loose way faster, tight means more speed but harder to handle
I think u have that backwards, loose is faster but harder to handle while being tight is slower but easier to handle
The best part of this game is watching you smash into people and cause crashes 😂
Trev try playing with 3 stage races. It makes the AI pit after the stages, I play this as well on 25% races and 4x wear, have not even touched the AI settings and the AI always pits after each stage and the middle of stage 3

I know this is late and idk if it has been realized later on in the series but for AI settings, "wear effect" just means that once the tires wear down it effects the driving more or less, doesnt speed up wear.

If you go to the settings before a race you can set it so that you have less wear and more grip as the tires start to go and it helps. You’ll still feel loose and stuff but it isn’t as bad as you’re experiencing now

A strategy you may want to consider...If you just have to scrub off a little speed before entering the corner, keep your right foot buried in the gas, and use your left foot to apply a little brake. This will keep the cars rpm up but at the same time take a little speed off. It should be a little quicker than coasting.

Turn on less wear and more grip for yourself and change it back to 4x tire and fuel consumption that way there will still be pits but you won’t be crashing 10 laps in

Also press B and keep your tire pressure and fuel level up on the top left. It helps so you can see. The more you huge the inner track the more fire wear you use. Cause you are putting more stress on that right side tires. Some tracks it’s better to ride high side especially if it’s like a 28-35 laps etc

If you go to the Gameplay settings you will find a setting called "Player Tire Grip Falloff". Set that to "More Grip" and the car will be easier to handle on worn tires so you won't have to pit until you need gas.

Ultimately tire wear is dependent on how you drive the car. If you drive aggressively then the tires will wear faster than your opponents even if you are on the same settings. The AI is set up to be pretty conservative on wear. That’s why for the most part the racers generally finish around where they qualify, and that’s why it’s so important to qualify in a good position. So to be honest for the best experience in races on shorter length, you’re best off actually setting your car to “less wear” and “more grip” on the tire settings, so you can freely drive the car from the beginning to end of the race and make pushes when you want to not just when you have fresh tires. If you run longer races then you can leave it all normal cause then pit strategy will actually come into play. Hope that helps!
Trev! You should turn on multiple race stages! It makes the game more realistic and it gives you chances to pit under yellow!
Also... I personally, wouldn't recommend loosening your car all the way for the race. I believe that is what is making you even looser when you start losing your tires.

For tire wear, just turn all AI stuff to normal, and turn player grip falloff to more grip, and that way you shouldn't be as loose, and don't turn the setup to all the way loose
And when you turn it to 4x wear and fuel it does it for everyone, not just you
Up the race length, also the CPU's only pit when they are running out of fuel so tire wear doesn;t affect them.

I can understand a bit of trev's concern with the default settings. The ai seem to never need fresh tires, but the player is getting loose within a matter of laps.
trev your 2x tire wear is 2x more then the opponent’s so change it to the lowest setting and you will be fine

As a driver, i know its hard to understand how you can eat up tires so easily and the AI doesnt. Have to know the physics of tire wear and change how you drive. Itll be a very difficult transition, but it can be done. Its harder on your tires to break and turn, then to gas and turn. Thats why you see them going slow before the corners, then speeding hard out of them and pulling away from you. If you have to slow, do so before the turn, then about 25% into the turn, hit the gas and chase the corner out. Guaranteed to burst speed coming out and youll stay with the pack. Possibly even passing them as you come out if holding the draft. Thats how you save the tires longer. Always better to brake with wheels straight, than to brake with wheels turned.

TREV...YOUR RACE LENGTH ISIN"T LONG ENOUGH! The ai Pitting strategy wont kick in at 7%...twice that should work at 4x wear. Also, Bump drafting is a thing...the guy tapping you usually wants to be friends. Infact if you loose the draft some times you can push someone or it might even be wise to let off the gas and wait for someone to catch up to you in order to work with them. Unless hes an enemy of yours often he'll push you.

Gotta turn the flags from Relaxed yellow to strict yellows to get more caustions thrown. Also 2-3x is probably around the sweet spot to pit with other drivers.
Not sure if you left your setup on FULL LOOSE but I think that could be why you get so loose so early maybe tighten it up a bit you never really wanna be FULL loose or FULL tight..
You will be much faster if you turn off the driving assists. It will just take you more time in practice to get the lines down. You will also feel like you have more control of the car.
So, I do 13-25% race length with stages so you run like 10-20 laps then everyone pits for the first two stages. Then the last half of the race you usually only have to pit once or twice. When I have a slower car and want to have more fun I put the AI with more effect on tire wear so I can catch them easier when tires are worn down.

I think ai have the same wear but they just race slower instead of going as fast as they can and sliding because halfway through the race you were a lot faster than them

At 7% race length the AI will probably never have to pit. Run 25% @ 4x wear for a shorter version of a full race (25% × 4x wear = 100%)
The AI's tires will never fall off as much as yours unless you run normal tire wear and they run faster tire wear. Or you run less tire wear and they run normal tire wear. Then it evens out a bit.
Do 13%, 4x Wear, More Grip for yourself, Faster & More Wear for AI with the crash setting you had, and then you’ll have pitting but with actual strategy and you will base it off of fuel more so than your tires getting crazy bad quickly. Also look into custom setups that should help your tire wear
