Fr Mike, I am not Catholic but I sure appreciate your heart to drawing people closer to Jesus and being intentional in their living for Christ. Thank you for your helpful practical ideas. Even though I'm not Catholic, I am planning to practice Lent in my life because I want that holiness, to purify my life before a Holy God. Thanks my Brother.
Beautiful, Bill! Thank you so much for you kind words and glad to hear the Lord is speaking to you through these vids. Please know of our prayers for you!
Bill Floyd, If you want to experience a Catholic mass, go to a Latin mass (low mass if you are impatient or only have an hour to spare or high mass if you want to hear an angelic-like, gregorian chant-sounding choir) Then open up the English/Latin Missal and read along, regardless of if you're at the correct spot or not. We are supoose to pray THE mass, not just pray AT mass.... If you don't read along, but just look around, it will seem like a library with the priest muttering something up front. But if you read along, you will see how amazingly God-centered the prayers are and how the priest is not the focal point. (The Latin mass may seem very alien, but its just so extraordinary. Perhaps that's why it is called the Extraordinary Form whereas the the 1962 mass is called the Ordinary Form.)
Amen, Mr. Floyd. Lent is a beautiful season to reach in to the God who is leaning with outstretched hands to love on us. Would that everyone knew how much Jesus thirsts for us to just let Him lavish his love on us. This Lent I'm going to remember the simpler ways that my ancestors did everything around the house. I'm a single, mother of four kids and yesterday my dishwasher konked out and I said, "That's not a problem. My momma and nana washed everything by hand and didn't die and they used an old school broom instead of the vacuum cleaner and they eat less because they HAD to." Praise God for using these spiritual disciplines to remind us of the poor who don't have the choice to do otherwise and who go to bed hungry at night and maybe don't even have a bed or warm shelter. Thank you Jesus! The money I save from eating simply and buying less meat, and doing all my housework the old school way, will go to the poor. Let their suffering be eased and Lord, I pray that I recognize you in each and every person in distress, because there you are.
Thank you. I am brainstorming and want to make sure it is a sacrifice, something that pulls at my heart and my spirit. I never thought much about Lent until this year. As I brainstorm, I'm considering donating to food banks, giving away excess clothing (40 items minimum) for the needy, reading my bible daily and praying, recording in my journal about my Lent experience/walk for 40 days, setting my alarm clock 30 minutes earlier in the morning, and no shopping for "want" items for 40 days. I'm certain this must be a mindful journey. Pray my strength and my obedience.
Thanks for the video Fr. Mike. I’m 6 years late but it’s my first Lent as a revert, and I really needed these tips! I’m giving up soda, coffee and praying 15 minutes everyday. It might seem small but it’s a challenge for me to pray consistently and to give up the things I’m addicted to. Prayers appreciated!☺️
Love my faith. Born Catholic, die Catholic. My Lenten journey is Mass every day, Stations of the Cross on Friday, prayer for our priests, reading "the Cries of Jesus from the Cross" by Fulton Sheen. Sacrifice for our Lord. God Bless our priests and Holy Mother church.
Thank you for responding to this video. Because of your response, I too, just now have purchased Fulton Sheen's book, Thank you for helping me with my Lenten journey. God bless you. You made me laugh too when you said, "Born Catholic, die Catholic". I have been struggling with that, I love my faith as well and have huge convictions being around 4 of my siblings who were "born" Catholic but are now evangelical??? Christians, not sure what to call them. I love my faith, but they cause me to doubt what I believe at times. Again, thank you Angel.
@@colleenbenedict2096 Follow the advise of St. Padre Pio: 1. Pray, 2. Hope. 3. Don't worry. Do that for your 4 siblings and stop worrying about it. It doesn't do any good. God bless you and let's all pray for her 4 siblings who have left their faith. In a few years, let us when they come back. Just pray for them. Don't tell them anything, just follow St. Padre Pio's advise. He is incredible.
Lent is one of my favorite liturgical seasons in the Catholic faith. Yes, it’s a it’s a challenging and perilous journey. But with the intercession of God, Jesus Christ, my patron Saint, Saint Michael the archangel, the Virgin Mary. I can survive the perilous journey. And on Holy Week, it’s like the final showdown between God and Satan. And as for Good Friday, that’s when I fast and refrain from overeating. My mom tells me that if I’m going to fast on Good Friday and during Lent, drink plenty of water. To keep myself hydrated and refreshed.
Father, thank you so much! I am not a Cradle Catholic, and you would be so surprised how many books I've read to try to get the most out of Lent. Believe it or not, I actually love the Lenten Season a little more than Christmastide, I probably should not say that. But, Lent feels so quiet and spiritual and beautiful. It's the time when I feel the closest to my faith, and yet I feel like I am not doing enough. I know religion does not have to be hard to work. But, I guess I just want to know I am focusing on the right things. Thank you so much.
Attending weekday Mass regularly throughout Lent, obvious improving of prayer, that could extend into a good habit past Lent. My commitment. God bless all.
@@jonathangoodwin646 t that's wonderful! I've worked in nursing homes and not a lot of people have family contact. Call her tonight.... Why wait until Wednesday? Can you go visit her this week?
I found myself hesitant to let go of things. As such, I now reflect on sacrifice and penance by donating 40 items of value to me (one for each day). The items may help someone else, so that's a good thing. 😊 (No bragging intended... just offering an approach for consideration. Blessings to all who read this.)
Thank you for your information. I am not Catholic or Lutheran but I have decided to learn about Lent & observe it. I desire to have an effective fast & giving. I want to truly focus on what the Lord Jesus taught, sacrificed & did for me. I want to honor God & grow closer to Him.
Thank you father Mike. I’m a convert and I am in Bible study. Most Catholic’s don’t understand why they go to church and what is the reason we do what we do along with what they see in the time there. I have learned why and your explanation of giving to become closer to Jesus is amazing. I will be praying 15 minutes daily for lent and I have a special page for families around the world who’s children have been diagnosed and living with liver disease. I am educating and supporting the uneducated about this and I think this is what Jesus has called me to do! Again thank you for all you do

Fr. Mike Shaw, what's the situation with religion in Quebec? I've never been there but I heard that many people, especially baptised Catholics, are irreligious, if not anti-religion.
You are really helping me to get to know all the things I should have been taught by my family, Thank you so much. I found my certificate of baptism and it is all because of my step son having cub scouts in the local Catholic Church with the name St. John which is my Grandmothers maiden name. That got me interested into looking into if my mother really had us kids baptized.

Mike and use them in my ministry during Lent. Keep up the good work and enthusiasm in your ministry. I would love to be a student at your college and experience your ministry - your students are blessed.
Happy Lent,
Shalom Fr. Mike Shaw
Fr. Mike Shaw, what's the situation with religion in Quebec? I've never been there but I heard that many people, especially baptised Catholics, are irreligious, if not anti-religion.
"I'm giving up being stupid for Lent." Cracks me up every time. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Being wise for Lent.
I had to replay that a few times 😂😂😂
Thank you Fr. i was really waiting for this topic to pop up :). God bless you Fr.Mike
If your Mom had you baptized and there is a certification at the Church you were really baptized
