Turning Crepe Paper (Starry Night)

- Welcome to today's woodturning project, although not much wood was turned. This time I experimented with crepe paper. I turned paper in the past, but this was something different. I made a a lidded box, that I finished with high gloss lacquer.

i love that you decided to turn “end grain” because i really enjoy how the curves of the bowl distort the parallel lines in the pattern. what to do next? denim? flannel shirts? crocheted yarn? construction paper? so many possibilities with this method.
I was trying to think of something translucent like mylar, but I doubt if the resin would bond it together well enough. I wonder if adding layers of white crepe paper between the colors would give that effect?

@@soniadelavega9501 resin is a plastic so yes,it could be used as a vase with water in it. But not the top,as it's wooden
I love it and hate it at the same time, and since the goal of art is to evoke emotion; I'd say this project was a 10/10! Super creative idea too.
The one spot on the side that is too much black, is messing with my OCD. The rest is amazing

Very cool! Sad that the paper didn't retain its vibrancy though. But I love how it turned out. Makes me think of that swirling spot on Jupiter or some other Outerspace point of interest.
WOW I was in awe of this project wasn't sure how it would turn out. The crepe paper in resin surprised me as to how well it turned. The pot and wood and crepe resin lid are a unique piece of art work. I like how the colours shine at the finish well done for another amazing piece of craftsmanship. @@Blinky114 crepe paper is made from a tree. Technically paper is still wood. Therefore this bowl is still technically wood.

The set light slowly coming into focus as the surface gets more and more shiny around the 7:45 mark forward was one of my favorite parts of this video. Very cool!

Все кто показывает обработку залитых эпоксидкой карандашей, ткани (в данном видео), и др.поленьев, дерева....
Так беспечно опилки струяться из-под резца...(((
Где вытяжки???
Подобное уже много кто делает и у нас, эпоксидка с наполнителями. А потом делай, что пожелаешь.

@@user-hu4oz1cm1s мне кажется, это обычная эпоксидка (эпоксидная смола). Видела похожий проект с карандашами, там получалось, на мой вкус, красивее, всё же тут цвета сильно потускнели.
@@user-dp5hj7wz6d , крепированная бумага. В детсадах и школах из нее делали поделки к НГ, украшения на елку. Заливали эпоксидкой. Есть разные технологии, можно и ткань, конечно, но при работе на точильном станке ткань будет неровно обрываться, получится, на мой взгляд, не очень красиво. А бумага срезается стружкой.

It's a magical bowl. It sends you to an alternate world where all kinds of strange creatures live in the most colourful garden you've ever seen....
I really don't know why. But that's what popped into my head.

I love the after photos at the end- I wonder, when you start a project using unusual materials, do you have a pretty good sense of what it’s going to look like in the end? Because the handle for the lid COMPLETELY surprised me with the spiraling stripes because of following the “grain.”

That was really great, I thought the paper would bleed, distorting all the colours. So glad it didn't. Having a bit of contrast wood is a nice touch. Thank you. 😊
The colors did bleed, that is why the layers are less distinct than the paper was.
