Was a great year to graduate high school! Cheers! I couldn't afford a new one in 87 so saved money for a few years from my summer jobs in between school and purchased one a few years later, 12k miles and in great shape. Fun car!
I have had a GN and still have a Turbo T but never raced them. It seems the modded are impossible to get off the line with, seems every video I watch there is a lot of time lost when the light turns green. Not trying to be a smart ass, maybe someone can explain it for me. Assuming they can't get the timing of building the right amount of boost, just seems quite a lot of time lost. Not picking on this video, most seem the same. They sure make up for it once they get moving though.
There is no time lost here. Your "time" only starts when you break the beams on the XMas tree. Meaning the 2 bulbs you have to turn on in order to start. The "time doesn't start when the light goes green, it starts when you move. If your racing someone else, you stage properly and focus on the light. If your racing for the best time, you leave whenever that optimal boost level or desired rpm you choose.
Buddy Ingersoll sorted out the best fuel delivery for a dragrace V6....he went lean at launch at richer once underway to the top end ..he did it mechanically BEFORE ECMs.
Mine is the exact same way. You can't bury the gas pedal below 55 or it gets very unstable. I have NO intention on running at the track because what's there to prove? It's a separate section of your wallet to get these cars to "hook" well. Just the attention on the streets and the impact on psyche of the newer cars is enough entertainment in and of itself lol. Oh they'll rev their engine going the other way on the streets but very docile next to me. Because the reality is, they have nothing to gain and everything to lose by racing a Turbo V6 from the 80's. Buick really developed a legend. I'm just fortunate enough to be a part of the experience.
Did u build your own 3.8/4.1??? Whose heads r u running and what turbo...just a curious old man who retired his 87 GN 20 years ago...sure is a sweeeeet ride even a stocker 3.8 is a powerhouse grocery getter.

That big tail wind didn't hurt
It is what it is... I also ran 9.20's in a head wind. Nature is out of my control.
