This new development regarding P&O’s Alcohol Policy has now been confirmed on their official website. In the amended Alcohol policy, it reads “Other alcohol types such spirits are considered restricted items and are prohibited to bring on board when guests first embark the ship”. It was good while it lasted!
@@pjs2409 That’s certainly good news! Now all we need to do is develop a way of making a fortified wine taste like whisky! 🥃 😂 Seriously though, thanks for the update! 🥂
Sad to see P&O remove the spirits from their allowances, but I guess it makes sense. It’s insane that you can save over £1,000 from not taking drinks - that’s another holiday right there!
Omg drinks packages!!!!! I thought long and hard about getting a package on my recent celebrity edge sailing. It was $55 NZD per DAY for a non-alcoholic beverage package (premium was about $255 per day irrc). I did think that I got my moneies worth though, cans of coke were $5 USD (which was about $10 NZD) onboard. I did drink a lot of coffee and mocktails on board though. Total cost for my 9 night sailing was about $1500 NZD + the $2500 for the room.
Wow that is pricey isn’t it! 😦 We dod opt into the drinks package in our latest royal Caribbean sailing even though it was £125 per day. Saved a fortune. As you say, soft drinks etc catch you out and it adds up fast 😵💫
Hey so sorry, TH-cam held the comment so we’ve just seen it. Hope you had a great cruise. The can take sift drinks etc and 750ml of wine / champagne. So sorry for the late reply
Here in Australia we always get the deluxe drinks package on Royal because of the exchange rate! All ships here are using USD and the AUD rate sucks so its actually heaps cheaper to lock in the package and save the difference. It's still stupid expensive - @ 125-00 a day currently!!!! but I wait till the black Friday sale and get it half price 🙂
Wow that is very expensive! Would definitely do the same and wait for the Black Friday sale. We noticed some added sales lately, P&O did a big Valentine’s Day sale which was unexpected.
May 26 will be our first sailing with P&O and already I’m sick of them. Since we booked they have increased the drinks package twice. Added charges for the high ropes. And now they are changing the alcohol we can take on board. Now sure P&O drinks package is not as expensive as royal Caribbean but it’s not as good as princess or Holland and America. We did book P&O for the apparent good value but the tarnish is coming off very quickly.
I totally get that. It is frustrating when terms change after you’ve booked. That said, overall P&O, in our opinion are still really good value for money. The pay as you go drink prices are really reasonable. I’m sure you’ll still have an amazing cruise. What ship are you sailing on?
I was just doing some reading online and it looks as though you can buy bottles of spirits via room service. Not sure on pricing though as truthfully didn’t even know you could do that! You can still take a bottle of wine/champagne per person upon embarkation. Just seems to be the liquor option that’s been removed but we’re double checking with P&O directly. 😃
Hard to say really, 50:50 I guess. I had a pair of scissors in a case once and got called to security so they definitely do scan and call people up. Was a very odd walk of shame 😅
@@GetLostWithBenAndGareth haha. I decided I will try it, we go in September so i'll post my success or failure. I think ill try a few beers and a whisky. If they take it off me at least I can just take it home in the car with travelling from Southampton. Loved your videos on Arvia as we had heard some bad feedback on our last cruise but we are excited to go now. Cheers.
@@jamestaylor1794 haha! We wish you luck! 😂🍻 We hope you have a great time! As with anything in life, if you go looking for faults, you will find them. Focus on having a good cruise and I’m sure you’ll have one! 🥳🚢🏝️☀️
We ended up on Iona. I can confirm for 2 people, 4 bottles of wine, 2 bottles of spirits (masked by fake shampoo bottles) and 16 cans of beer made it on board. Also the on board scanner wasn't in use all holiday so each port could take on booze in your rucksack. Never got stopped once. Had plenty of booze on board also it just helped with pre dinner drinks costs!
I would be less inclined to buy drinks from the bars and have a teetotal holiday then so it would backfire on them I do not need to drink on every cruise
we can confirm that there is no change to our alcohol on board policy. Guests can still bring up to 1 litre of alcohol onboard. The corkage fee if consumed in a public area on board the ship, remains the same. - P&O twitter, 5th May
We’ve reached out again to P&O to ask the question as we keep seeing conflicting stories. We hope it’s not true as we like taking on our favourite tipple for our cabin but we could understand them changing there policy if they indeed do as alleged as it would fall inline with the rest of the corporation cruise groups.

Do we know if that includes fortified wines such as Martini?....
Good question. It doesn’t specify but I reckon they would class it as a spirit/liqour. Worth an ask though for sure. 🥂
just had reply from p&o - its a fortified wine so ok to take with you so long as not over 1 litre..🥳

Yeah it does make sense though as they were the only ones offering it.

@@King.of.wishful.thinking Oh brilliant. She really is a fantastic ship. We were genuinely impressed. Sure you will have a great time! 🚢🥂🏝️☀️🎉
Time to go sober for a week! P&O can get stuffed
So, if you cannot take any spirits onboard at embarkation you will have to buy in bars or get it (.....a bottle?) from room service.

I was planning on taking a bottle of whisky in a towel in my locked suitcase. Do you think they will scan it and make me surrender it :D

It’s definitely something we’re thinking more about too, drinking less in general. We do like a glass of wine with dinner though 🍷😃
Solo cruiser here, thank god i don't drink😅. It's expensive enough with the single supps, as it is, ha, ha.

@GetLostWithBenAndGareth hope so too, going on Iona next April! Drinks package not worth it for us but definitely want to take our own drink!
Yeah it’s the same for us. We love a cheeky whisky before we head out but can’t hack the hangovers that the drink packages incur on us these days! 😂
It’s more or less confirmed over on P&O’s website I’m afraid… 😟 Check out their Alcohol policy. (Updated today)
