@garbo196 That means you have multiple instances of the S4 mapping loaded. Go to preferences - controller manager - and click the Device dropdown menu. My guess is you'll see multiple S4 mappings in there. Click on the duplicate mappings, then underneat the device dropdown menu click Edit - Delete. Don't be afraid of deleting the wrong one. Even if you delete them all, when you unplug and plug the S4 back in it will automatically reload the S4 mapping.

I also cover this more in depth in my online Digital DJing with Traktor class with DJ Shiftee on dubspot.com . The reason its not syncing correctly is probably because the beatgrid isn't correct. Also if its playing super fast while sync'd that tells me that your BPM is probably halved. Click the x2 button in Traktor's grid panel in the advanced panel below the decks.
@gabedavid This is not true. You can run traktor pro and Traktor S4 side by side. There is a seperate collection (folder) for both programs so you don't have to worry about one program affecting the other. When you open controller editor, the device menu switches to generic keyboard. This doesn't mean the S4 isn't there. You just click on the device menu to select it. If you need additional tech support you can call native instruments tech support at 3234672693
Good stuff DJ Endo. One minor nitpick, there is no such word called "analyzation". It's simply "analysis".
Sorry but I don't think Ableton is a great DJ tool because of its limited browser. Sure you can DJ with it and make DJ mixes with it but Traktor is made FOR DJ'S, and is made so you can start DJing right out of the box without any preparation. Ableton requires lots of preparation. Having the S4 is like having your hands inside of Traktor.
Sorry but about 90% of professional Traktor users use sync. I use sync and love it. Technology is evolving. Evolve with it or get left behind. Beatmatching will be a thing of the past very soon and we won't be having this discussion anymore. Sync allows you to do more creative things with your mix and focus more on music programming then manual beatmatching.
@DjStashE If I use the S4 software, I would use the S4 as a soundcard as there is no external mode with Traktor S4. I just set up Live and S4 on PC. Yes, there is some tweaking that needs to be done. Stay tuned for my video on how to optimize your PC for DJing on the Dubspot youtube channel. As far as NI updates, there should be more info announced in February.
@johell667 What do you expect? Its a software emulation, not an analog mixer. However I have made feature requests to improve on the internal mixer. Stay tuned! Just a tip though - the lower the latency you can run the software at, the more it feels like a real mixer. - Endo
@Pl4sm0 I got one of them on ebay, and the other was a gift from DJ Richie Santana from NYC. However the ones on ebay are all sold out unfortunately. Let me (and everyone else) know if you find some good ones online because there are a lot of people asking about these!
This was a gift from a DJ friend of mine (Richie Santana). If you want a recommendation for good USB Cables, get Oyaide D+ cables. The RCA and USB cables that come with Traktor are garbage. Get pro cables and you will sound pro!
I would suggest getting a Traktor Kontrol S4, and then sign up for our online Digital DJing with Traktor class on Dubspot.com that myself (Endo) and DJ Shiftee teach. This will teach you everything you need to know about DJing and then some!
@jonpaulevans It is USB powered, and also has a power supply. You don't need to use the Power Supply (It works fine with just USB power) but the LED lights are much brighter when you have the controller plugged in with the power supply.
@notoriousosh My Current setup is the Traktor Kontrol S4 with Maschine. I'm using my Maschine MIDI Mapping for Traktor Pro (see the Maschine w/ Traktor videos on the Dubspot youtube channel), and using my Traktor Kontrol S4 as a Mixer.
There is no such thing as S2 software. Any Traktor controller that you buy should come with the full version of Traktor Pro 2. In any case you should upgrade to the full version of Traktor Pro 2 so you have all of the features.
I have a Traktor Control S4 controller, I can't use all 4 decks of it, can you teach me?
@djjasonpaul Mm I just don't get why the beat warping isn't simple like it is in Ableton. I can literally beat warp a tune in about 5 mins if that. I've got the latest version of Traktor just 'cause I thought I'd have a play with it but it seems to have the same problems as before. It'd be good if Traktor could just read .asd files from Ableton then it's literally a case of job done if ya get me!!

well i just bought the traktor kontrol s4 off amazon, and it was suppose to come with the traktor s4 pro software but it came with traktor s2 software...so i dont have the same displays or the newest version of the software to go with my program...what should i do???
Calibrate your S4 by going to preferences - Traktor Kontrol S4. Maybe the volume fader isn't calibrated correctly and Traktor thinks the volume fader is up.
@victor451219 Click on the arrow under the Deck Letter (Under the letter C and D in Decks C & D) and change the Deck Type to Track Deck instead of sample deck
@fluchiano You would just install the S4 software, and download and install the update. This will install all the necessary drivers. Then its plug and play!
@patsavage1212 Yes you can MIDI map the S4 to control any program that receives MIDI. You just hold the shift button and press "Browse" to go into MIDI mode
@mettlddomami Make sure you are using the S4's sound card not the computer sound card. The computer sound card will give you this lag. To do this you would use the S4's output directly to your amp and use the S4 as the default sound device.
@afferik No, the software will override the knob position. When you turn a knob on the S4, the S4 will override the software's knob position. Make sense?
I bought 2nd hand S4 MK1. Can I still use this? Is it compatible to the new Traktor Pro 3? Thank you.
@TheMiele01 You can scratch with the Jog Wheels on the S4. Check out Shiftee's videos where he demo's scratching on the S4 with the jogwheels
@3run4ever848 YES. Its everything you need to control everything in Traktor and the setup is super easy (2 cables + Power adapter).
@fluchiano Yes, You can use Maschine with the Traktor S4. Check out my video called "The Mothership" on the Dubspot youtube.
Excellent, can you tell me if the DC plug is PIN HOT? I want to get a custom regulated power supply to relace the cheap mains adapter that comes with the S4?
Air will do the trick. Pro will do the trick better! I use a solid state drive as well. It was expensive but so worth it.
Traktor is a nightmare to beat warp that's why I use Ableton otherwise I'd probably play around with it. This controller looks like a lot of fun tho!
@MrRjzam The S4 should come with different power adapter attachments for each country so it will work fine. Enjoy :)
@fealmor Double click on the key knob to set it to zero. If you don't see it, turn it on in preferences - Mixer.

I disagree that beatmatching will be a thing of the past. I guess it's just a generation thing. I'm old skool, and that's how I taught myself so that's the why I'll always do it. I like to be able to see the DJ working, not just flipping switches and clicking mouse buttons. Plus most proper club DJs still use CDJs rather than laptops. I do tricks with my Vestax VCI 400 and find that, for me, looping sections to incorporate effects and transitions is better than using the sync button.
i have a problem. the loop knob doesnt seem to be working properly. when i make a loop, andturn the loops know, it doesnt step down as you would expect 32/16/8 etc. it goes from like 32 to 2. really big jumps, this is really frustrating. also when browsing my library with the main browser know, it skips every second track, which is also very annoying. i really hope someone can help me. thanks
It is a universal adapter with uk , eu , usa and Asia/Japan plug heads you use the plughead on the adapter for whatever region

was wondering i also have a ( MASHINE ) and is there any way in hooking it up with the Traktor Kontrol S4 ......? what kind of cables i need or dose it recognize it when i install the Traktor Kontrol S4 ....havent bought the Traktor Kontrol S4 YET!! but will soon useing a numark NS7 for the time being but im realy wanting to learn the Traktor Kontrol S4 .....just need to make sure everything will work just right.......thank you for your help.
@coolshit28 If you play dance music (edm) or anything with a consistent beat it is easy to do. I know how you feel tho, it takes some time getting use to and if you have to add new grid start pionts through out the track it becomes a hassle. If NI did a warp type feature like in ableton it would be that much better. Grids kinda suck if you are used to warping but it takes less then a min to grid a track for me (unless they aren't consistent)..

My MacBooPro seems the same as yours, mine is late 2008 model, with the multi touch track pad. 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo. I have 2GB 667 MHz DDR2
How much gig Ram you have on your MBP !? If is the same, how do you think it works w/ a newer model? Any difference worth upgrading Ram !?

The s2 software is the same as the s4 software. Maybe your settings and layouts are different to his? It should be Traktor pro 2 with it saying traktor pro at the top left when you start it up. Unless your talking about traktor LE? then i guess just torrent it.
Guys.. Always wanted to try my hand at DJing and none more than recently - trouble is, where do i begin!? I want to get involved but don't want to spend loads of money on decks etc. if i'm going to be no good or if it's something I don't enjoy as much as I thought I would.. can anyone suggest anything?

The only thing I cant seem to find (doubting it actually has one) is a way to tell what key your tracks are in when you load them on to the decks. I have an s2 and it doesnt have a way to tell either. do you know if their is a way to find this out or not?
Hi guys I just bought a used s4 with no install disc It seems to work fine with traktor pro 2, without any install disc or drivers, is this normal or am i missing something or is their any benefit to me installing the driver from the NI website?
I don't have a jobwheel calibration option under preferences. All other calibration is available, i.e. FX KNOBS, EQ AND FILTER, FADERS AND CROSS AND CROSS FADER. . . . does anyone know how I can get the calibration option?

MIKE !!! I need help with my S4, it won't turn on and when it does it lights up and fades out ! also I cant get my software to show up on my laptop , I have downloaded everything and still nothing !! PLEASE HELP !!!
@music18500 as long as youre using a licensed software it's very possible. If you got the S4 software and later migrated to TP2, you have to send NI a request for you to install the software to another comp.
@coolshit28 it's really not that difficult to beat grid in Traktor.. If you have music that is performed live it can be a pain but I tend to use pro tools to warp those tracks and then play them using Traktor..
@DubSpot Hey, my Fx buttons aren't working they are like left on the top or right on the top, they aren't working. Do I need to connect them with my decks or something? Please help..

@tommyray17 on the top right hand side u got your fx buttons on display on screen there is a picture of a tape click on it then the record button will appear.
@lcassidy4 on the top right of the window theres a scroll bar that says essential, extended, browser, and mixer. the most detailed is the mixer layout
I know you are using Mixed In Key for the keys... but what setting did you use to have the key display like that on the right corner of the song playing?
@Wi7ardBalls nope. it will be pointless if you route your speakers that way. best thing to do is hook up your ligitech to the TKS4 audio outputs.
@nocis16 not sure what youre encountering. can you be more specific? did you try to reinstall TS4? what TS4 version are you trying to install?
Hey at around 3:20 you mentioned recording mixes... Is there somewhere on Traktor Pro that you can record it? If not, what's the easiest way?
@Wi7ardBalls get a pair of 1/4 mini pin to rca adapter cables. you can easily grab them over at radioshack if you live in the states.
@notoriousosh You can choose which software mixer you want to use in the preferences - Mixer. You can choose between "Classic" which is the classic Traktor mixer, "P600" which is the Pioneer DJM 600, and the "NUO" which is the Ecler NuO4 mixer. If you test the software mixer with the hardware mixer back to back you will be happily surprised with how well they emulated the sound and EQ cut & boost levels. Traktor Pro actually has the 4 band Xone 92 mixer built in to the software mixer.
the xone filter and Eq from the mixer is a pure crap compare to the real Xone i cant make the switch and that piss me off

@coolshit28 The "beat warping" aka Beatgridding is actually easier and faster in Traktor Pro since you only need 1 grid marker per track, and you simply just shift the grid left and right until the tick matches the track. Takes me about 3 seconds a song. Check out my Beatgridding in Traktor Pro video on the Dubspot Blog to see how I do it. I actually just started offering a service beatgridding tracks as well, so get at me if you're interested!
The best way to find the keys of the tracks is by using a program called Mixed in Key. Traktor actually now has key detection which is automatic but it is not very accurate. Mixed in Key is much more accurate than Traktor's key detection and also the other free alternatives. @assais why don't you just plug the master output into your TV's aux input and then use the S4 as your soundcard. Then you will have your monitor (cue) outout in the headphones

Syncing "Key" would be done using a method of mixing called Harmonic Mixing. Check out my Harmonic Mixing tutorial on the Dubspot youtube and also my articles on Harmonic Mixing on the Dubspot Blog.
Yes you can use timecode CDs to control the decks in Traktor, however the best way to go is to use the CDJs in Advanced HID Mode. Be sure to check out my video on using the CDJs as an Advanced HID controller on the Dubspot youtube page, or by clicking on my profile.
@OnCall101Villa You're thinking of 96 kbits/sec, not 96k hertz. 96k hertz is high quality
yup you have 2 addition input in the back. so i got a 1210 and a cdj runing parallel. BOOM!
I am complete Neophyte and don't anything about digital recording. I went to recording school 25 years ago in NYC, I have been playing guitar for 38 years (I am 52) and did a fully complete home studio at one point , but that was 15 years ago. I am not looking to become a trance rock star, but now that I am fully disabled an unable to work, I want to get back into music recording. For the last 5 years, I thought the only choice was pro-tools. Now I know better chocs for what I want to be is Ableton using Push, Machine using Machine Studio, or even Kontrol S8 for Reaktor because Djing is something I would dig. I have about 5K to spend. I am confused if I should go the pioneer route with their latest controller for scratch pioneerdj.com/english/products/controller/ddj-sx2.html called DDJ-SX2 or go the NI route with machine studio and new reakot controller. But I would still need a DAW which makes me think Ableton and that cool push controller. I am thinking about experimenting playing live gigs with jj rig, drummer and guitarist. I just want to have the shortest learning curve possible and have fun. I understand I need to pay my dues and this will take time. IF I go the pioneer route, what DAW do I use. Do I even need Machine studio if I have Push? I like Push because of the way it uses music theory and understand music theory well. It's almost is like Push is a new instrument. I am not young and just want to have fun. And if I am able to ever do a live gig, does the clubs in NYC and CA have both equipment to support both NI & Pioneer. curious will Traktor pro 3 work with this s4 player?
Don't get me wrong, I love beatmatching and am a veteran vinyl DJ. When I'm beatmatching I'm much more in tune with every beat of the track. However now I do more 4 deck stuff and live remixing so my style has changed. I still am working the whole time, in fact I'm working harder than ever because I have so many things and ideas happening at the same time.
@lleeooa65 You need to assign them on Traktor's mixer section. Click on the number 1 and 2 buttons to assign each deck separately to effects panel 1 or effects panel 2. If you don't see the 1&2 buttons on Traktor's mixer, turn them on by going to preferences - decks and turning on "Filter + Key + Gain + Cue + Balance"
Go to the Native Instruments website to view the current price. You can order them at any Native Instruments retailer. Most music stores sell it (guitar center / sam ash etc).
hey do i need to download drivers to this right????? or is it just plug in and play???
@ElMaco97 With the S4 the mapping can't really be changed, you can just add your own layer to the mapping, so the LED's can't be changed (in theory). I'm sure there's a workaround but I wouldn't mess around with it.
@fluchiano You can definitely sync Maschine to the Traktor Kontrol S4. I'll have a video on this soon. You can also use Maschine as a MIDI controller for the S4 software (this is what I do). It all works like a charm :)
are you able to set up cdjs to the s4 and use it as a mixer?
@fealmor Double click on the "KEY" knob on Traktor's Mixer to reset it to zero. If you don't see the key knob, you can show it by going to preferences / mixer and turn on "filter/cue/KEY/gain/balance"

This is not true. See my last comment. There's no reason to use timecode anymore if your using the CDJ 2000 or CDJ 2000 Nexus. You can use the CDJs as the controllers and the S4 as the mixer / soundcard.
so what do i do with scratch pro and audio 8 dj I just bought if I get this?????
