For a 17 year old film, it had fantastic VFX, and all the closeup shots of Spiderman were actually CGI, and the swinging was so much better than Spiderman 1.
*yessir*
hello there
@N- 2R YOU'LL GET YOUR RENT WHEN YOU FIX THE GOD DAMN DOOR
Well of course it’s going going to be better then spiderman 1 because they improve over the years
All closeups were tobey in a suit... Far away swing scenes were cgi
The CGI of this movie aged so well, no wonder it won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects back then.
Okay, Doc Oc being FULLY CG in the final scene genuinely surprised me.
I actually never expected that and that blew my mind
Yeah same I thought they practically killed him by drowning to get the scene done
Yeh I assumed he spent time in a tank
Nah like I thought maybe the actor was just on wires and then some filters and hair movements were added to look like underwater. I didn't think everything including his face would be CGI
Insane. And it looks better than mcu's
This movie is one of the proof of why cgi is a great tool if its used correctly
That one can be Amazing Spider-Man series. But this is Great even when CGI is less used
@@dheerajmusic for the second movie yes.
Sam Raimi while creating this was like, we are in the science fiction world he can do anything
@Fanboy Hunter what's about the MCU? Personally, I love it
mcu spidermnan got 2020 cgi but it's looks like a sponge and gummy.
I never realised Alfred Molina is CGI in that final scene that is amazing
I always thought something was a little off about how he looked in that scene but I could never put my finger on it. It’s still really good though.
It’s not CGI , they really drowned and killed him for the film
@@chrisbrown113096 Bravo Raimi !
@@RestitutorEuropa same I just thought maybe something was wrong because he was underwater ahah
The guys who work for this movie they have my respect , still the best spiderman movie yet
Not anymore lol great movie but not anymore
Nah, i mean, no way home its great but to be so it literally pulls things from other movies in order to achieve what they did by themselves... so its unfair to say "its better" than one of the movies it is using its content from in order to be "better"... or to be more hyped specifically.
Spider-Man 2 is the most overrated superhero movie of all time. No Way Home blew Spider-Man 2 out of the water. Stop dock riding this movie it’s not that good Jesus Christ.
@@Nick-lz5lxif a bunch of "hype" makes a movie good for you then sure yeah, but throw a single arguement of superiority in filmaking, story telling, ANYTHING for the least to go around telling people their opinions are worthless over yours.
@@Nick-lz5lx This is just plain wrong lol, I'm surprised you can even say that after watching this video (assuming you did even that)
The amount of effort put in the whole series is just unbelievable.
Still, the best swinging on film, even though the amazing spider-man had some really great POV swinging shots.
It's the worst swinging in film, but still impresive for its time
@@arnoldrimmer960 Objectively wrong on all counts, but OK
TASM had some beautiful swinging, but in the original trilogy, it’s the only time where you feel like that’s a man hanging from thin ropes. There’s effort, there’s weight, it doesn’t look effortlessly flawless. Every other Spider-Man since looks like they’re flowing through the air. The swinging got a lot better, but it can be at the detriment of the final result because it’s too good, and it doesn’t feel as real.
@@alexman378 I feel like you are confusing the trilogy with tasm, or you have a bad case of nostalgia blindness.
Tasm looks super realistic, have actual physics and it's working great, also you can see the webs actually attach to things.
In the original trilogy, he looks weightless, just flying through air and most of the time there's nothing above him to attach his web to. Like in Spider-man 2, it's just him swinging and there's green screened background behind him just flying throught the city above the highest buildings.
@arnoldrimmer I agree, tasm had more realistic physics in my opinion and also thought he looked slower than tobey imo
The effects, especially the swinging still looks fantastic. I think it rivals the recent MCU movie effects
It's better, no doubt.
@@nectarinedreams7208 i dont really think its better in some action scenes the cgi looks sorta weird (if you pause it) it just blends to real life really well since they know when to not use too much of it. dont get me wrong its groundbreaking for its time but if they did projects like mcu movies with a bunch of aliens and stuff the cgi wouldn't be as good (sry this is kinda obvious but hopefully u get what i mean)
@@rhinuu045 bruh tasm cg are vetter than mcu
Honestly they went hard and aced it. Spider-man 1 with 2004 technology and budget would've been crazy.
5:20 This is what I always try to explain to people comparing the MCU cgi to the past, (even though there shouldn't even start an argument since it's common sense... *Present* and *past*)
They did everything they could do during that time. Technology for the film industry hasn't evolved much that time.
It was still commendable for them to have solve their cg problems with what little they have.
Sanrami the best👍
I remember watching these things as a 6 year old child and not understanding how in the world this worked but now 17 years later as a professional artist I understand exactly what they are talking about when it comes to lighting and shading ect.
And they say CGI is overused. If done correctly you can almost make it seamless. That's the sign of a good VFX artist. Obviously nowadays you can tell when something is CGI and when it's practical but then it's not like they weren't using it excessively back in the day. It is an essential tool to bring movies like this to life.
It is overused. This is an example of it being used appropriately.
The cgi artists are clearly masters as this films holds up amazingly after nearly 20 years passing. Hell I’d even say that this films CGI was better in many cases than No Way Home which the Spider-Men looked good but still had that MCU issue of looking real but fake at the same time
100% agree
I love this movie and it's literally close to perfect. I hope they would do a remaster just to touch up Doc Ock's CGI face in some scenes. Other than that you really couldn't tell it was CGI.
Visual effects in this movie looked better than No Way Home...
Nuts how much is full CGI, holds up really well to this day. I believe Raimi used a good combination of props and CG, helps you forget about the CG unlike a lot of films today which blatantly overuse it.
This fight scene is way better than we have today.. damn I missed the Sam raimi trilogy and still hoping for Spiderman 4
It's at the time when CGI was still awkward when overused. Happily the tables have turned and the audience revel in the real special effects after seeing a film like Fury Road.
Or the fact that its a superhero film and had shots that were impossible to do practically. For a film like this and for it’s time, it wasn’t awkward, it was needed.
@Fanboy Hunter notice how I said for it’s TIME, I never said the mcu films NOW don’t overuse CG, I agree that they do over use it for their latest films, but that’s because it’s cheaper to do now. You just tried to generalise my point on Spider-Man 2 for all marvel films. And yes I am a fanboy, but I’m not wrong mate 😂 I love your username. And yeah, are you really gonna get Alfred Molina throwing punches with his mechanical arms at Tobey Maguire on top of a moving Chicago train? XD Even now it would never be done practically because that’s dangerous asf. Name one shot in the film where it didn’t need CGI…
YOOO ITS LEOO
@@BS77 exactly, I don’t understand why it would be seen as ‘still awkward’ 😂
the mcu spiderman is so ugly, looks like a gummy and sponge
this movie still feels real today
Greatest spiderman movie ever.
17 Years ago tech to do CGI was definitely not an easy task to get and let alone to animate, that's why i always say hands down to the Spiderman Trilogy one of the best CGI and also very realistic for the time it was released 17 years ago
Best cgi was tasm!
@@apurvsoni7856 theetam🤣🤣
Honestly, some of the cgi scenes in Spider-Man 2 looks better then some of cgi scenes in Spider-Man No Way Home. For example, the part where Andrew’s Spider-Man catches MJ and they landed, the cgi movement looked very undercooked.
It's not the cgi so much as the animation behind it. If the animation isn't great the cg won't be convincing. That's why spiderman trilogy cg is so good. Because they knew the cg wasn't perfect but it the cg models behaved like real tangible object then the audience wouldn't notice its cgi
@@ITSAULGONE Agreed. The cgi in terms of realism is good. But when it has less than great animation, it makes the models look worse. And it gets distracting and pulls you out of the experience which is unfortunate.
Actually that looks natural to me, while in Spider-Man 2 it looks so unnatural.
I know what you mean but you are referring to performance and animation, it looked totally realistic but you are right the way he lands is so artificial and anticlimactic/boring. Spiderman 2 animation is so well choreographed.
im prolly the only one blind to "bad cgi" lol and im kinda glad
the special effects still holds up till this day. Even the new Spider-Man no way home some effects makes them look rubbery and cgi.
Yo this film looks fantastic, can't wait for when it comes out
💀
Who's time machine we using?
it finally released in theaters today i just watched it
Thank you for uploading this! I still think Spider-Man in this film looks absolutely PHENOMENAL! Especially during the web swinging scenes - such as when he is swinging from Mary Jane and Jon Jameson's party, and also throughout the entirety of the film tbf
This movie all these years later is still one of the best if not the best superhero movie to this day. They did everything perfectly with the trilogy (except 3 that is still great but Sony fucked Sam)
Hello Dr. Freeman
@Versatile Wolf yea but sam only wanted sandman sony forced him to add venom
@@frankfernandes718 yeah still can't believe he somehow made it worked.
@You're a clown all*
And this made the movie win a oscar
Scene at 4:16 still holds up and looks freaking real
It looks better than 90 percent of MCU movies
Yeah the mcu just OVERUSES cgi at every moment... idk, they could place pieces of fake armor ontop a skin suite of Robert down jr and detail up with cgi, but not..... do it completely cgi that looks a kid put his head ontop the image of an armor, the shadow circle of his neck looks THE WORSE possible... and they use it on pretty flat scenes too to help it, unlike spiderman one with that night swinging scene helped to buy into tobey swinging with poorer cgi, we saw enough of his movement to get what he's doing, and it has an intention...
@@bozmundarts2614 they made Tobey in No Way Home look like a cartoon. They have all the money and artists in the world yet they can’t compete with the CGI from 2004. That’s unacceptable. The MCU has a massive CGI problem.
@@bozmundarts2614 MCU cg isn’t so bad in the theater especially when the image isn’t so crisp on the projector. But I do get how it can fall apart under scrutiny when you check the 4k blu ray release. Also cg artists are at a disadvantage since the movies turn around time is so fast they barely have any time to get it micropixel perfect. Like that final fight scene in Black Panther. Apparently they only had three or so months to do that one.
Just imagine tobey's spiderman now 👌🏼💯
Hi
this cgi was better than no way home
True
No hate but this film had better CGI than most of today's film.
Wow this movie gets more respect 🔥 with all technology and cgi they worked with
Still the best Spider-Man movie to date and the CGI has aged fantastic. Except for when Spidey stops the train, you get a quick glimpse at PS2 Tobey 😣, still great though!
Looks good to me
People will take some of this video and say it's leaked footage of No Way Home.
True
VFX are great. Better than using CG to add a chair into a scene because one guy was too lazy to get the one from the other room that nobody was using
@Kryptoskillet Any MCU movie is a good example
@@chaunceybillups5436 RIGHT
@@adikos9244 THANK YOU! 🙏
What make it look real they use some practical effect on his movie rather than using full cgi
for early 2000 when we were using windows 98 and nokia 3310 special effects in this movie seems unreal. Masterpiece
This is an incredible job well done! Just amazing looking graphics to this day! God, a lot of modern movies don't have graphics like that...
Man this is amazing as CGI was still so new back then yet they absolutely destroyed it to the point that this film holds up and looks amazing nearly 20 years after in which CGI has progressed so much but at the same time not that much as this film still kicks a lot of films asses that came out today. I don’t know if it’ll be ten years or 100 but eventually they really will reach a point where CGI will be so realistic that we won’t be able to tell. The modern deep fake is the scariest as once artists are able to figure out weeding out the uncanny valley issues, actors will probably be able to stay young forever and even after their deaths play characters they normally wouldn’t and couldn’t because of age which is pretty frightening for actors as I’m sure they will have to sign their likeness away to studios whom wish to continue using their face for their iconic characters which Star Wars is a good example as the characters and actors are so intertwined together that recasting simply doesn’t work as seen with Solo
Damn the editing is so lit
Jon Watts should’ve watched the beginning of this video
Thanks for upload this...
I can sleep tight now...
LEGENDARY!!!
4:06 undeniable!
8:50 HA! JOkes on you!! But side note, the animators have my respect. To sit down and use new technologies and techniques to create a new movie requires lots of patience and talent. You shall never be credited enough
Too magical work, artist are great
I don't like how MCU uses way way too much Cgi. It's way too noticeable and it ruins the movies
We're spoiled with CGI nowadays. Back then, this tech was brand new and absolutely ground breaking
Nice
Yo I'm excited for NWH!
*SONY slips in Spider-Man 2 content from 2004*
What's this?
*SONY sips coffee aggressively*
Better than No Way Home
way better, nwh looks like school performence or just story
Glad they didn't do a goblin grenade skeleton animation again, that was so janky in the first film
Guessing that they also had to avoid being graphic, avoid details and such so is not that shocking.
2:16 damn that cgi spidey is thicc
*STILL BETTER CGI THAN MCU SPIDERMAN*
My favorite Spidey 😀❤️🙏
Otto :,)
I miss practical effects...nowadays is just nothing but cgi constandly in your face and is too clean looking and doesnt fit in the world. Hell that new venom looked like ps3 graphics like yikes tf you guys doiiiingg!!!!
Ok venom didn’t look that bad, but I still agree that there is way too much cgi used nowadays
Venom has to be cg, there's no other way. He's like hulk where he's full cg. Besides that agree still too much CGI where a character can easily be done with practical effects.
That was Sony not Sam
4:14 scene from preview
The amount of ads before the video start 😑🤦🏻♂️

From the creator of Dykstraflex. Not sure what would have happened if he had continued working with ILM
I wonder what it would be like if Christopher Nolan made a Spiderman movie. I wonder how much would be practical effects.
It would be the same you can't ask a person to swing really. Plus Nolan uses a lot of cg only when necessary
