Well trained is the better term. My aussie will wear my lady's Siberian huskey out and still keep going. Pull a sled they say...ha an aussie pup will build the dam sled then test run it with you across sand in a heat wave. No snow needed. Just water, treats and food.
As much as it aggravates me seeing people react this way, don't worry about what most people say over the internet Erin. Your Aussie showed the utmost obedience while you were grooming him/her. I can't even begin to understand how anyone can say that this dog is not happy. From what I see in the video, it has complete trust in it's owner.
My dog "looks" sad because she is concentrating on being well behaved. I have trained her not to wiggle or jump around happily because if she did I wouldn't be able to groom her properly. If you want to see her jumping around happily you can go watch my other videos.
Plus, it’s just an Aussie thing to duck the head and give that look when you groom them, or give them shots, etc. Border Collies are the same way. Confident and happy until they are at the vet, or being groomed. I think it’s adorable!
My female Border Collie ( a JOY filled dog), would take this stance every single time she was bathed or groomed, lol. My Dobie did the same. Very good dog. Shes just taking it seriously. It probably ISN'T her fave thing on earth but the trust is evident. Good girl, I say. Very good girl.
What a gorgeous Aussie! We lost our blue to cancer almost four years ago. It broke my heart. We now have a tri "mini" Aussie that keeps our Border Collie company and they both play a huge part in our family. Thank you for the video.
I know I’m about 8 years late but I wish my Aussie was this calm ever! He won’t even let me touch his paws he hides them under his belly if I even place a finger on them
I brushed her paws to get the hair from between the toes to come out so I could trim it, you could also just use your fingers to expose the fur between the toes as well. It's called a Slicker brush, it's just a smaller one than my other one.
I am getting an Aussie puppy is September. I just lost a dog so my family is planning on getting a new dog to help us all feel better. I will be doing agility training and hopefully agility shows and I need to know how to properly groom her. This video is so helpful on what tools I should gets and how to use them. I am very used to excessive grooming I have rabbits that need to be brushed and have their nails clipped once or twice a month so it's normal for me. Thank you so much for making this video it was very insightful of what I need to do when my Aussie pup arrives.
I don't know much about dogs, but the way this dog stays still and patient seems really extraordinary. I saw in another comment that you trained her. Wow. Good job. Is this particular breed known for its even temperament?
the tail and feet trim looks amazing! I'm in the beginning stages of being a dog groomer and will remember this video whenever I do an Aussie there and mine at home :). That is a typical Australian Shepherd face when they are about to be groomed.&for the person saying it has sheltie in her -PLEASE! she is a beautiful looking Aussie! Even purebred dogs come in different sizes and shapes sometimes-there once was a golden that came in the salon & she had stumpy legs!&her brother was regular sized
Go to Amazon and type in "undercoat rake", "pin brush", and "slicker brush". There are many different brands but they are all basically the same (other than size).
they definitly are, i think it was because she was protecting her babys, we babysat her and her 4 days old pups! shes over here with them right now, and doesnt care and is friendly,
She is not "far too small" 18.5 inches is a perfectly normal size for any Aussie bitch. But I do agree with you that she have a VERY sheltie head and there must have been some sort of Sheltie influence in her pedigree. As for purebred, that really depends on your definition of "purebred" how pure does the blood have to be? how do you measure that blood purity? Both her parents and grandparents were registered as Australian Shepherds some with AKC some with ASCA and some with NSDR
Yes. As long as you walk them a few times a day it will be fine. The most important thing to know about an Aussies temperament as a breed is that they are very smart dogs who need a great deal of mental stimulation. Try to do 5-10 minute training exercises every day and they will love you for it.
Once my friend was clipping the fur around her dog's pads since they got so long they were bunching up and making her walk funny, wasn't paying attention since the dog found it so uncomfortable and clipped right into a bit into her pad... It always gives me shivers when I try to clip the fur on my Husky's pads o.o
I would say no to being a first time dog. Had a German Shepherd/ Lab mix first, she was very calm and easy to work with. Aussies are full of energy and can be hard to keep up with the first couple years. However they are wonderful and great. Definitely more upkeep than your average dog (with all the hair and everything), but a great breed!
Thanks so much for the video! Only wish I knew what tools you were using in some areas. To questions about an aussie as a 1st dog, they are not difficult, but like all dogs, need your time. I read many, many books (Monks of New Skete was best) and she is an almost perfect dog, at least for me. I did choose a working dog line, rather than a show dog. She's nine now and I dread the thought of life without her.
My aussie is only 5 months old and weighs 44lbs. He's not over weight he very lean. His vet says he's gonna be a big boy judging by the rate he's growing and his paw size. He's already taller than our pit/lab mix(2yrs old)! I was kind of shocked to see that your girl is soo tiny.
Nice job, and yes she's very well behaved! Does not look worried or upset/sad to me at all! Whe to you cut the tail hair? My new mini aussie has ALOT of hair any suggestions on how to tone it down, thin it out? I've used the same tools you show in the video.
@bobzilla0101 You should brush a long haired breed weekly and short haired you can just get a damp towel and wipe them off but this should always be a bonding time never scary or boring but they should be rewarded for sitting still if still a pup I groom my Aussie weekly on every Saturday cause it takes a LONG time.
I don't know how'd they do as actual guard dogs, but my aussie does bark to let me know he thinks something fishy is going on (usually it's the door moving from the air pressure at night lol).
I've always had short haired dogs. My Aussie has what I've been told is a very full "skirt". His tail is also undocked (and lovely). I'd like to trim his skirt back, because frankly, pooping is getting messy. Also, the hair on his tummy gets matted. What is the best way to thin some of this out? BTW, he definately has HAIR. Fine and silky, but hard to brush without pulling because it is so long.
I have a shetland sheepdog and it`s amazing how submissive they are. When I clip her nails, I lie her on her back and she doesn`t move a muscle. You just want to hug them and tell them it`s going to be okay! They are amazing dogs!
Wow! What a gorgeous girl. I've got a tri color as well. :) How often do you groom her like this? The hair on my boys feet grow like crazy, and I find myself trimming them every couple of weeks haha Thanks for sharing this!
@ErinKeechak thank you very much and can you give me all of the names of the combs and utilities you use and what kind of dog shampoo do you use, so that their coat will be brighter like some pple use coat whitener, etc.
How often do you do this routine? My aussie is making quite a mess in our car, carpets, our bed and on us! I noticed I really only have one brush, it has metal hairs on one side and plastic hairs on the other and even though I use it almost every day, not as much hair comes out as what you are doing.
I do this about once every 2-3 months. No amount of brushing will stop shedding however. Shedding is perfectly natural and healthy. The best way to minimize shedding tho is to blow out the coat with a forced air dryer every other day,
Elizabeth Gomez we have a corgi and a Aussie. Everyone morning someone in our family takes turns brushing the dog for 20 mins, blow drying for 5, then doing an extra 5 minute brush again to get all the tough hair. Since we've been doing this, we've never seen a single dog hair on our couch or beds.
our vet recommended bathing our aussie mix every week with an oatmeal bath and conditioning treatment because she was experiencing allergies. how often would you recommend bathing?
I don't know if you'll still respond to comments, but- I'm trying to groom my Australian shepherd (he's 3 1/2 and really only got brushed bc he doesn't let me groom him) but he's knawed the hair on his bum so it's all uneven. I'm trying to get the nice rounded shape, but I feel like it looks all jagged (I have to do it little bits at a time bc he gets annoyed with me) I'm worried about messing it up and it not all growing back right. Does the bum hair grow long again?
That Aussie looks like a Mini Aussie or American Shepherd. Which tend to have Border Collie and Sheltie in them. That one appears to be have a heavy Sheltie line in it.
you typically have to get them used to it by doing it regularly. with my pup, i also regularly lift and hold his paws and maybe show him the tools, but don’t do anything. then i give him treats for that and when i actually groom him. for brushing his teeth, it’s usually a good idea to offer some dog toothpaste in a small amount as a treat, then do the same before you actually brush their teeth
most dogs freak out at first, but getting them familiar with it can eventually make them enjoy some parts. it’s hard, but if you allow them to move around and don’t hold them or attach them to a leash, they’ll eventually be as calm as this aussie
@muschio Lots and lots and lots of training. My Shepherds do the same thing. They just have to learn to deal with it. "Poor" Kechara, lol. She has to feel a bit better though, with less hair on her!
not true at all, we baby sat an australian sheperd and we left to go shopping, came back in the house, she barked at us for hours before finally attacking and biting my mom!
My Aussie is a male, almost 11 months on the 21st. He has a medium coat, i think it grows as they age. Aussies shed a lot in the summer, and in the winter they gather up their winter coat.
I posted a comment saying pretty much the same thing Vis said, but when your dog stood up I saw the boootay lolol. I love aussies so much. I have one of my own and she's almost 2 years old!
what a nice and calm dog
army ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Lucas Bieber, 😏
Well trained is the better term. My aussie will wear my lady's Siberian huskey out and still keep going. Pull a sled they say...ha an aussie pup will build the dam sled then test run it with you across sand in a heat wave. No snow needed. Just water, treats and food.

such a patient + beautiful furry baby Aussie. I have one as well. been SO blessed... working on her grooming myself... a tad pricey in NY ..
I’m so glad to see you used the slicker brush properly most people don’t do it right
What a gorgeous Aussie! We lost our blue to cancer almost four years ago. It broke my heart. We now have a tri "mini" Aussie that keeps our Border Collie company and they both play a huge part in our family. Thank you for the video.
Can I just say your dog is absolutely beautiful. I have a mini Australian Shepard and this video helped me a lot with her grooming thank you. :)
What a gorgeous dog, and so patient and well behaved too. I've always wanted an Aussie. They're my favorite.
Excellent video and great videography! Such a beautiful Aussie. Wish my collie was this well behaved when I groom him.
Your Aussie is so relaxed. I take mine to the groomer. I have been able to brush my Aussies but nothing like yours. Well done.
You're dog is so calm.
You are dog is so calm.
Lol
I know I’m about 8 years late but I wish my Aussie was this calm ever! He won’t even let me touch his paws he hides them under his belly if I even place a finger on them
Dayra Lomba I know this is a year late but maybe try to teach him “paw” it could be a really good training moment
I have a Blue-Merle Australian Shepherd myself, her name is Skye and she is sooo smart! They are great, protective, and smart dogs!
Awesome educational video! Love the fast forward!
I brushed her paws to get the hair from between the toes to come out so I could trim it, you could also just use your fingers to expose the fur between the toes as well. It's called a Slicker brush, it's just a smaller one than my other one.
your dog has perfect temperament! what a great model dog
I wish I could brush my dog as fast as you could with the time sped up too haha
Still cracks me up at the face she gives you when she sees the scissors
She was 9 years old in this video so yes she is full grown. She is a fairly normal sized bitch for the breed. 18.5 inches tall and 35 pounds.
I am getting an Aussie puppy is September. I just lost a dog so my family is planning on getting a new dog to help us all feel better. What a well behaved girl! my Aussie, 'Blue' is all hyper and out and about...he won't stay still!
I feel like I could comb my Sheltie/Aussie mix forever and still get fur out lol! It is never ending
This is very useful for when I get my own Aussie! In the meantime I will be using the paw trimming technique for my American Eskimo. Thanks so much!
I wonder how much fur there would be if we mixed all of the loose Aussie fur from each grooming sesh
Thanks for sharing, I like how you did the tail
I don't know much about dogs, but the way this dog stays still and patient seems really extraordinary. I saw in another comment that you trained her. Wow. Good job. Is this particular breed known for its even temperament?
tubecity2 no Aussies are very energetic but very trainable
the tail and feet trim looks amazing! I'm in the beginning stages of being a dog groomer and will remember this video whenever I do an Aussie there and mine at home :). I am so interested in this breed. I am learning all that I can about them. Looking so a service dog and so far Aussies seem like my perfect breed.
Go to Amazon and type in "undercoat rake", "pin brush", and "slicker brush". There are many different brands but they are all basically the same (other than size).
Very Helpful Video! Thanks. Really appreciated the tail grooming part.
Our 2 auzzies just LOVE to be groomed!!!!
they definitly are, i think it was because she was protecting her babys, we babysat her and her 4 days old pups! shes over here with them right now, and doesnt care and is friendly,
its such a pretty dog
How many times do you brush your Aussie? I brush mine every day with a typical brush cause she sheds a bit and I don’t want hair everywhere.

Glad to see someone else getting the volumes of hair that I get! :)
This was very helpful! Thanks very much. I wish mine would stand still that nicely : )
What a beautiful girl~ :) I'm getting a male Aussie in about a month! Do they shed a lot? How does their coat cope with water?
How do you keep your dog to stay still while you brush and trim her?. Great video, thanks for sharing ;)
Cute mini Aussie!
The dog in the video is an Australian Shepherd not a Mini Aussie, thanks though.
Once my friend was clipping the fur around her dog's pads since they got so long they were bunching up and making her walk funny, wasn't paying attention since the dog found it so uncomfortable and clipped right into a bit into her pad... Awesome video! Just curious, do Aussies have soft fur or does it feel "wirey"? It certainly looks soft! :)
How well behaved she is!
I might be getting an Aussie called Mischief, I can't wait.

omg only if my Toby would be that nice and calm for his grooming!
My aussie is only 5 months old and weighs 44lbs. He's not over weight he very lean. His vet says he's gonna be a big boy judging by the rate he's growing and his paw size. He's already taller than our pit/lab mix(2yrs old)! I was kind of shocked to see that your girl is soo tiny.

this video made me fall asleep oh my god please consider ASMR this was so relaxing
oh okay. Than you should watch me groom my dog while you fall asleep, and I have no fun trimming butt hair.
Anne Lyons please don't be so mean. Just because you don't find it satisfying doesn't mean that everyone else finds it unsatisfying.
Your dog is so tame! Good job training it
Yo I freaked out for a sec, cause I thought you were literally just cutting off the tail oml
Really relaxing to watch this though!
Thank you for this. My dog hates the brush, and I realize I am not using the right one.
Hi there, does aussie shed a lot? Do they leave a lot of hair on the floor?
Do they shed as much as Golden retriever?
Thank you
How do you train her to be so calm?
@bobzilla0101 You should brush a long haired breed weekly and short haired you can just get a damp towel and wipe them off but this should always be a bonding time never scary or boring but they should be rewarded for sitting still if still a pup I groom my Aussie weekly on every Saturday cause it takes a LONG time.

How did you get him/her so calm around the brushes, I have a puppy and he seems to think brushes are toys
Wow! What a gorgeous girl. I've got a tri color as well. :)
How often do you groom her like this? The hair on my boys feet grow like crazy, and I find myself trimming them every couple of weeks haha
Thanks for sharing this!
Wunderschön hab den gleichen in tricolor 8 Monate weiblich
Schon 23 kg
So schöne, dankbare Hunde ist wie ein Mensch für mich
How often do you groom like this?
Wow didn't realize Australian Shepard were smaller than i expected. Or is this one fully grown yet?
Can you list where to get all those please
@ErinKeechak thank you very much and can you give me all of the names of the combs and utilities you use and what kind of dog shampoo do you use, so that their coat will be brighter like some pple use coat whitener, etc.
I have an Australian Shepard and he is my ride or die
What an obedient good dog :)

how do you exercise your dog so that it stays so clean
our vet recommended bathing our aussie mix every week with an oatmeal bath and conditioning treatment because she was experiencing allergies. how often would you recommend bathing?
Could you give me a list of everything that you use??

Oh yes the hair will all grow back, just give it some time and keep him from chewing it. Good luck.
lol I love her face at 1:28
I hope that little angel is still alive he’s so dam cute!
such a good baby
is this dpg a good first time dog?
great, also do you know if you can have an Australian sheppred with a pug.?
+Caitlin Mary Long why would you want to
Sweet baby! My Jet Dog is aussi n lab. His hair n fur sooo thick!
How do you get your Aussie to stay so still and calm? I have a 6 month Aussie and he is so hyper and doesn't like to be groomed
When they are young they tend to be much more active
That Aussie looks like a Mini Aussie or American Shepherd. Which tend to have Border Collie and Sheltie in them. That one appears to be have a heavy Sheltie line in it.

what tools do you need?
Love it. I have an all black Aussie named Lumzy.
@muschio Lots and lots and lots of training. My Shepherds do the same thing. They just have to learn to deal with it.
"Poor" Kechara, lol. She has to feel a bit better though, with less hair on her!
Anyone know what's the tool she uses on the top of the paws to get the hair up?
It is just a smaller Slicker Brush
How often do you groom your dog?
where do you buy all your supplies
How often do they need grooming
Depends on the dog and how they live.
How often is this done?
Nice dog
what is the flat tool you use on your dog at about 57 sec into this speedy video?
The names of all the tools are labeled in the corner of the video when I start to use them :)
not true at all, we baby sat an australian sheperd and we left to go shopping, came back in the house, she barked at us for hours before finally attacking and biting my mom!
Why the dog looks so scared at the begging?
I need some tips for grooming my 2 aussies one of them is 3 months and the other 3 years
How often do you groom them? Or do you do them at different times?
they shed a ton. i have hair on me where ever i go.
Why is my girl aussie not so fluffy? She just turned a year old, will her coat fluff out sometime this year?
My Aussie is a male, almost 11 months on the 21st. He has a medium coat, i think it grows as they age. Aussies shed a lot in the summer, and in the winter they gather up their winter coat.
I posted a comment saying pretty much the same thing Vis said, but when your dog stood up I saw the boootay lolol. I love aussies so much. I have one of my own and she's almost 2 years old!
