I really need to get a few markers and try it out. I would have to do online classes unless you want to teach one in SC. ;)

Your cards are awesome. That is so sweet that she listened to you and made the grounded set. Sure more will be made for different situations. Re Charlie.. I always feel if its meant to be it will all happen as it should be.. I know we get our hearts set on things but they don't follow through .. and later something better comes along.. So sure that in Aug or when ever your forever home fur baby will come. Patients and letting God find the perfect blend.. What scares me is masking.. making one layer cards. I love scenes but tend to do them with out masking. If I need to use a die to help I do .. yes it's not a one layer card.. lol. I think it would be nice to take classes from you.. but being on a fixed income.. will it cost. I learn so much just watching your videos and LOVE the stories..

I do lots of trainings and classes for my job (nail tech). When I was a beginner, or if I was brand new to a technique, then I 100% prefer receiving a kit in the class and have that be a part of the class cost. If I am more advanced in the subject and it’s just a technique refresher, then I would prefer to just bring my own supplies. For example, if I’m taking a shaping class, then of course I already have acrylic and an electric file because I’ve been a nail tech for so long, so I would prefer to bring what I would use every day while shaping nails. It’s just the technique I am learning. You could also have both options available. If it’s a class that requires Copics, then you could put out a list and also offer an option to buy a kit containing those colors. That would be a win for everybody, including the store.

Kelly, with your following, you'll just have to do a world wide tour to do in person classes for all of us that would want that! Or online, so Peanut won't be a teen by the time you wrap that up ha ha! I would love to take online classes from you for both Copics, which I've only been working with for about 18 months, and watercoloring, which I have done for years but still struggle with at times. No line coloring with intricate stamps is definitely something that I am very nervous doing and have not felt good with my few attempts. Thanks for sharing those darling cards! I think the Keep Grounded stamp set is a brilliant idea and will be added to my ever lengthy wish list!

Kelly, these kids are adorable. A class would be fantastic! It would be wonderful in person, but on line would be helpful, and realistic for most people. I do struggle with Copic markers or markers in general. Thanks for your inspiration and sharing your talent.

Kelly, I would love to participate in an online class. I think it’s great that you’re going to do an in-person class and as much as I would love to attend such a class, I know that with my physical challenges, it wouldn’t be possible. So, having an online option would be fantastic! As far as supplies are concerned, I would say that you could establish a “must have list of supplies” and then allow attendees to also bring (or use) other supplies that they have on hand. For example, maybe a specific stamp set and type of paper are “must have supplies”, then each person could use whatever Copic (or other alcohol based) markers they already own. While someone might not have the exact shade of brown you will use, but they have one that is close, then they can use what they have. It’s not the colors that matter as much as the type of markers (alcohol based) and HOW they are being used.

  • @sassyteresa55

Love the idea of classes! The face to face classes could have a supply list with dual fees listed; one fee for the class and an additional fee if the copics are provided. That would still be difficult for you starting up, though, since if just one person wanted to use "class supplies" you would have that expense. Best scenario would entail a limited number of colors for the class project.

How funny! I bought this set from Tiffany BECAUSE OF YOU!!!! I am me, making my own brain work with my geometry skills..... YAY STAMPS! I ALSO purged my Copics! Full set syndrome no more! I used my Kit n Clowder charts and your blog post of copic combos as my inspiration to keep! I will be gifting the others (and their refills) to a friend! Now classes.... if you allow too much freedom to choose you will rin into a TON of “what should I do with this one?” I say have your store get with one of your DT teams, purchase the sets for number of PRE PAID class goers, then the students buy them at a 10% off sale. Also your store could offer anything used in the class is 10% off if purchased day of class! You should NEVER use your own money! You are putting people into THE STORE and we ALWAYS find extra stuff while browsing! Use the stores EVERYTHING and precut card bases!

Cards are adorable and the grounding stamps are so clever for scene building. I like both online and in person classes. Just depends on the location. I prefer to receive a supply list and pay less for the class. I usually have most of the supplies. With a kit you may be paying for items you already have.

  • @margarete6888
    @margarete6888 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

My experience in teaching a class is that it is better to have a product list. If the store stocks the items, they benefit from the sales; the cost of the class is cheaper; people who already have the supplies don’t pay to have them provided; and your supplies don’t disappear.
I’d love to take an online class.

What a great idea to have background stamps!!
I love how you put them together.
Online classes would be lovely (more doable seeing that I am in the Netherlands😄), I would love to learn how to not be scared of contrast.
I love it in other peoples cards, fearing it in my own.....scared of ruining the card😉

Okay, I have been a craft store instructor for quiet awhile and I prefer that the students have to bring their own supplies. I will supply some things occasionally, like a pre-stamped card, but definitely not Coptic markers or watercolors, adhesives, etc. I have shared my dies at classes occasionally. Ultimately the store you’re at wants them to purchase products for class and you want them to have supplies to take home to continue their crafting. I never let anyone use my markers at a class.

Watercoloring is my challenge. I’ve managed to improve my copic coloring from what I’ve learned from you. My attempts at watercoloring have not gone as well. 😬 I’d love for you to come to Central Florida, to teach a class. Perhaps MFT in Eustis. I would prefer to bring my own supplies. It’s easier for all. You don’t have to invest and carry them with you, and for the student side of things most of us that follow you most likely have markers already.

I struggle t know which different colors to use together on a card. Not blending families but more which reds go with which blues etc.
Thanks Kelly, I especially appreciate the time you take to teach sp patiently. xx

I think a supply list is great! I think a lot of us have started our collections already and may have the majority of the list. If they’re brand new, it’s a nice way of getting started on your collection because you’ll know exactly which colors you’ll need for that project. The hardest part beside learning how to use them, is deciding which colors to get first! Online classes would be AWESOME, too!

Your coloring is the reason I started watching your videos. Now you’re my ‘go to’ you tube channel because of the fun way that you explain the coloring. You make me get it. I think classes where I bring my own markers are my the most valuable to me because what will I do when I get home if I don’t have the markers to practice with?

Love the stamps! Love the cards! You're so talented and I enjoy your channel.
In response to you questions about classes:
Yes! An online class for the rest of us would be a real treat!
An in-person class - with or without supplies? Your answer depends on who your target audience is.
    1. If you are pitching the class for beginners, you would do well to supply the markers. Students would have an opportunity to test-drive the markers and determine whether or not to make the investment. (My thought is, you would 'sell' them on the markets and the store would do well to have a discount available for your students to take advantage of.)
    2. If you are pitching the class to more experienced artists, they would likely have already invested in the markers and would bring their own.
    3. If you're expecting a mix of students, you could have varying prices: $X for the class, plus $Y for the use of classroom supplies (if needed).
    I wish you luck!

My biggest struggle is watercoloring. I love it. I want to be good at it, but I seem to mess it up most times that I try. I just bought some ink to try no line coloring... so, I’m not sure if I can do it or not... um thinking it’s going to be a challenge. As far as a class- I think you should require people bring their own markers. You could offer different types of classes, like scene building, etc...

I love your cards as always. As for classes, if it is a beginner class, then I would suggest providing all of the supplies as a beginner is unlikely to own many markers. Perhaps you could provide Spectrum Noir markers which are less expensive, and bring a few Copics for them to try. If the class is geared towards more experienced crafters, then providing a supply list would be better. You could also suggest alternative colors that would work as well.
    Where will you be teaching?

I mean a higher cost for those who don’t own copies and a lower cost for those who bring their own? Too complicated? I don’t own any Copics as they’re expensive...I do own a different brand of alcohol markers... but no brush nibbed. As far as online classes.... Hi Kelly, I did a class from kit and clowder. She has a sheet that tells another marker or color pencil color that is a is using. I am not able to afford copics but I do have
spectrum noirs so I could do her class and it told me what ones to use. I still struggle with the alcohol markers but can do them in color pencil real good. I still am trying the SN markers and the few classes I took I did ok. It’s just nice for those of us who are unable to get copics to also be able to take your class if it is affordable. I love watching you and learning of stamp company’s I didn’t know existed thank you.

Love your skills. All of them. Narrating, colouring, one layer card, Stamp Scene Building. I’d do online colouring classes I guess! I would prefer a beginner class to have products I can use at the class but at and intermediate or advanced class I expect the students will have their own equipment as they would already know that it’s “their thing” to colour. I have a huge copic collection I picked up at a bargain price but I don’t use it much as I’m not good at colouring and I wish that was my strength.
    Thanks for the tutorial Kelly!

I love Ink Blot Shop stamps too! Offering a class online as well as in the store is a nice idea. As for the in-store class, my favorable experiences have been when I receive a supply list in advance and can begin to gather what I have at home. If the store is willing to offer a discount to students on those specific supplies with proof of enrollment, that becomes a big incentive to buy from that store. Some shop owners are willing to offer discounts to students on the day of the class, usually items that relate to products used even if not the specific color or size of an item. My Copic collection grew on days like that, adding colors that I wanted even if not part of the supply list.
If you decide to use an item that the store doesn't usually keep on hand in quantities greater than 6 (arbitrary number), suggest that students call the store to order that item and have it held for them on the class day. I understand why a store doesn't want to bring in 30 of an item that might not sell without promotion and if the 25 of the 30 students already Kelly Blue Fluorescent Glitter (how's that for your own market line? ), the owner might not be happy. On the other hand, students new the in-store classes might assume that everything is available and be disappointed to find out only the first 5 shoppers got the Kelly Blue Glitter.
Good luck to both you and the store owner!

I take classes at a craft store in my home town. They provide the supplies. I like that factor, because it helps me to try out products before I commit to buying them. The store gives us a discount if we decide to buy the product from them after the class, which is also nice. I tend to be more likely to take a class that provides the supplies quicker than a class that I have to buy the supplies first. Even if that makes the class a little more expensive, it makes the class less intimidating to me. (One thing they do ask us to provide, if needed, is our own adhesive. Most people have that on hand anyways.) I wish you the best of luck however you decide to do your own classes. Good for you!

Online class- YES! I live in Tucson, AZ so in person would not be feasible.
As far as the in person classes go... people need to receive a supply list when they sign up, and bring their own markers. Trust me, I’ve taught. People will ruin your stuff. They may not mean to, but they will. They will learn “better”, and respect the process and the tools more if they have a monetary investment in them. You could supply the paper, with the images pre-stamped if you want to give something extra. Also, that way everyone has the same image, portrayed the same way.
    Just my opinion.

Love that little curly haired girl - she reminds me of one of the kids from School House Rock. And my challenge? Alcohol markers. I just... I don’t know. I guess I need more practice. I also have issues with shading.
I already have paid for online and local classes/tutorials for other mediums, and have benefited tremendously.
Also, I like the idea of getting the product and paying a bit more to cover materials. Did that with a calligraphy class and it worked out great. I used that cheapo oblique for a year before I finally got a carrot (yep. carrot) oblique holder, which I prefer for my arthritis.

Love these stamps and cards! I want to learn how to watercolor. I am too much of a perfectionist I guess to watercolor. I have all of the stuff just havent used it bc I get sooo discouraged. Also, I would love to learn how to copic color from you I just dont have hardly ANY copic bc I just cannot afford them. I personally would rather buy my own copics bc I can get some great deals w my coupons.

Love these! I need the background stamps. They would help me so much. I’d love to take online classes if I could find the time to participate and practice consistently. That’s always the hard part with little ones running around. Unfortunately I’m not in a place in life where I can easily travel to events.

The classes at my (not so local) local store always provide a list of colors being used, and we bring our own. Results vary! The store does try to stock the colors used in classes most often or we could order thru the store. These purchases with classes help local stores tremendously! As to online classes... Only if there is a way to q&a with the teacher because we all learn differently and start with differing levels of knowledge, skill, artistic sense, and vocabulary.

Cute cards as always. I do have a slightly harder time with creating a whole scene around a couple of stamped images so the grounded stamp set is awesome!
For me, I have a hard time doing no line coloring and also watercolor.
I recently discovered a craft store near me that does classes. They have the markers to use but you are free to bring your own (you have to clearly mark yours if you bring your own.)
You get the stamp set that the class is using unless you already own it, in which case you pay less for the class. You could try it the same way with the markers since if you're doing the class, you could determine what colors would need to be used.
Maybe the owner of the store could get a feel of what people around there would want more.

I have taught in person classes at the retreats for a Facebook group, in which I am part of the admin team. I teach card classes (usually a fancy fold of some kind) no coloring, I’m still practicing my alcohol marker coloring. I also make mini albums as my second class. I give the ladies a list of supplies for each class. However, I also give the option for them to purchase the items from me, which have been precut and packaged. I include any die cuts and charms, jump rings, ribbon, etc. most everyone that takes the classes, buys the kit from me. I also let them choose their color of cardstock and pattern paper for the mini albums, because it’s something I want them to use, not just throw in a drawer, because they did not like the colors. Because I have tons of colored cardstock and pattern paper, I don’t have to go buy anything, except maybe special charms. Which I add into the cost of the kit. For your in person card class, I would definitely make a list and let people bring their own supplies.

As someone who loves doing classes (but won’t be able to get to yours) can I suggest two price points: one for people who bring all their own and one for people who need all the things provided. This way people who want to come and try without the initial outlay still can and those who have all the toys get a cheaper deal. Also, that way if friends come together and share a set one of them owns, it becomes more affordable.
    I think it’s a great idea.
I’d also be interested in an online class.
