    Tinsel is the individual pieces that are attached to the string making it a garland. Foil icicles are also referred to as tinsel. Per Wikipedia: Tinsel is a type of decorative material that mimics the effect of ice, consisting of thin strips of sparkling material attached to a thread. When in long narrow strips not attached to thread, it is called "lametta", and emulates icicles. It was originally a metallic garland for Christmas decoration.

    • @halo218813

      The lametta is what I call tinsel. I don't use it cuz my cats will eat it lol

    These are brilliant ideas! You are my favorite crafter because you show the simple and easy way to create incredible pieces for very little money. I truly appreciate YOU. My favorite creation for today is the chandelier, but, I’m in awe of all of your Christmas pieces.

  • @coribird5177
    @coribird5177 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    As the label notes, it's tinsel garland. Garland is the rope-like feature allowing the wrapping around the tree (or wherever). Popcorn & dried fruit or paper strips (making a chain) used to be traditional. Tinsel is the silver skinny metallic strands hung individually (or thrown on after much frustration).
    When combined it becomes tinsel garland.
    I guess either can be used unless you're adamant about correct term usage. There will always be the purest insisting on correct terms.
    I love your creativity.

    • @susieminnick6801
      @susieminnick6801 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Silver metallic strands were...icicles. I'm 65 yo and that's what they've always been called.

    • @wintersprite
      @wintersprite ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@susieminnick6801 It might also be a cultural/region thing as I’ve always known the individual ones as tinsel. It’s like shopping cart/buggy, soda/pop, etc.

      @coribird5177 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@susieminnick6801 I was going by the label she showed to the camera. I'm 64 and we called them tinsel when I was young. Regionalism differences.

  • @nikkiperry4103
    @nikkiperry4103 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tinsel is the individual pieces that make up that garland. Traditionally it is like an iridescent clear that makes a mess, but is beautiful on your tree. Clear plastic strips that shimmer. But, hey everyone calls things different and it works for you so keep doing you! I absolutely love all of your projects always! I love the gum drops too, but I think my favorite is the garland under your window!

  • @carmelabologna9051
    @carmelabologna9051 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Loved all your ideas especially the garland that didn't fit over your door. I actually thought it would look good on TOP of your window draping down so you could see the lights from inside. Just a suggestion. And what an amazing idea for the gumdrops outside! I really loved them with the gingerbread!!

    What you have is both tinsel and garland. The thin foil on the garland is tinsel. Back in the '70s bags of plain tinsel were really popular. You would sort of spread strands of it all over your tree and it was the absolute devil to clean up after the tree was down. It was also a disposable item so it was as un-green of a decoration as you can imagine. I think that's why some people get upset with calling 'tinsel garland' just tinsel.
