Kunal and @KhaaneMeinKyaHai Gypsy is a Shivaji Park institution. I was there on the very first night it opened in 1982 (was 7 years old then) with my dad, mom, sister. My mom's uncle - late Ratnakar Koppikar - had designed the interiors of the original Gypsy (which was much smaller then.) Still remember Mr Rahul Limaye (and his first Manager, Mr Bapat). Spent many a childhood birthday there with their amazing Fried Rice, Volcano Chicken, Paper Chicken, Red Roast Pork, and more. Brought back such lovely memories. I still visit there every time I visit Mumbai.

Congratulations to Rahul Limaye for being able to showcase his awesome Chinese food on this show. Rahul happens to be my classmate at IHM, Mumbai, a very simple, honest and down to earth person. Way to go Rahul !!! 🎉 Good job Kunal Vijaykar 👍
I am a Chinese food lover and Gypsy is my most favourite restaurant in Mumbai. Im surprised that the chicken drums of heaven / lollypops arent featured. Noone does them like Gypsy! Also, cant miss mentioning the great staff - a warm and friendly bunch of people that make the dining experience oh so lovely.
Love this place. Brings back so much childhood memories. Me and my cousin sisters used to walk at Shivaji Park and then go and plonk ourselves at gypsy Chinese and tell the waiter’s who by that time knew us as Mehendale’s daughters and nephew and eat our heart out. Sometimes Limaye uncle also used to be there….
Feeling so much nostalgic, yes it is my beautiful childhood memories, i used to come here with my parents and siblings .Thankyou so much our favorite gypsy restaurant ❤❤❤❤
@@manish.khedekar That was done in Calcutta long back. And lot of others in gazeebo international, lamkin etc. Gypsy is Great restaurant but it's not some Marathi invention
Gypsy chinese was literally my childhood! And it still is one of the best ‘chinese’ I have had! ❤ Miss it so much! And special mention to Shivaji kaka for giving the best recommendations!😃😃
Mumbai Chinese is totally different,I love it,u love it,u r best bro,I think u should come down to pune n find a best Chinese restaurant n make a video, but born n bought up in Mumbai i still like Mumbai ka Chinese nothing like it ❤
Wonderfully made episode. Very interesting conversation with the restaurant owber. Also appreciate the courtesy & mannerism of the restaurant owner, great hosting indeed.I am a bangloreann residing in Dubai. Travelling to Mumbai & having a great lunch at Gypsy restaurant. ❤ved the episode. Thank you
What a walk down memory lane for those of us of the same, ahem, vintage as Mr Vijaykar 😃 . The 70s and 80s was the golden age of Indian Chinese with China Garden, Chop Suey, Gazebo Oriental and Wong's from Breach Candy to Bandra to Juhu. I never experienced Gypsy since I was a Santacruz boy but now it is on my list of restaurants on my next visit to Bombay
Man this brings back memories! Almost every occasion was celebrated here, after 1990. Prior to that, we trekked to the Golden Dragon. Although it was not that much of a drive in those days.
I wish he had spoken more; shared more stories of Mumbai food scene as it was back then. More than all those Bollywood people, please invite such food pioneers who can discuss and debate foodscape evolution.
I’ve so fond memories of Gypsy Chinese! We’ve spent soooo many memorable events, celebrations, and get togethers there!!! Whenever my father would come from Muscat, we would go there and it’s absolutely amazing! My dad was first taken there by Mr. Mohan Wagh. This place is genuinely special 😍
I am a great fan of Gypsy. Not easy to serve excellent food consistently for such a long time. Environment is pleasant, staff is friendly. No one makes steamed wantons like them.
So Mr. Limaye being a Maharashtrian started this wonderful place with just local talent. Just Curious as to mastering the art of this Asian Fusion..???
Wow!!! Gypsy has always been serving yummy Chinese food. I remember we as a family visiting years back and we still continue with the tradition to visit during festive season or to celebrate our special days... Love the food at Gypsy Chinese. Thanks for the episode
Mr Limaye is so down to earth, usually you can be polite when talking about your achievements, but the man is duly giving credit to all the other pioneers who played a vital role in making Indian Chinese so popular and mainstream today.
Woww I just opened the video as it said OG Chinese, Bombay and I was hoping it's Gypsy and to my surprise it actually was. Aaaah those beautiful days when me and my entire family used to go there Sunday nights for delightful Chinese and glad to know it's so loved by many others including my family so thank you for this video :)
9:28 This video contains so many precious nuggets of information regarding popular Chinese dishes, this one concerning the origin of "Manchow" soup is so right out of left field yet so perfectly Indian at the same time !!
My parents would take me to Gypsy Chinese when it opened. We used to live near Badal-Bijlee-Barkha cinemas. And it was lots of excitement to go eat “Chinese” in those days!! ❤
We have been visiting Gypsy Chinese for over 4 decades there have been many celebrations it is always a pleasure to eat there owner and all staff are very good Sanjay Dani
Kunal, thanks for making this video as it brings back good old memories because it is a a coincidence that I have eaten at Chopsuey at Hill Road, Gazebo Oriental & also at Nebula & Gypsy at Shivaji Park. Sad that Chopsuey closed down as the food there was absolutely delicious & lip smacking Have eaten at Nebula & Gypsy both when I was a student & then with my family. Hope to visit again with my family
The way you present food, it looks much tastier. A big thumbs up to your presentation. I first saw your video a few months back when you were with a celebrity chef, Ranveer. Since then, I rarely miss your videos. Everybody has something to learn in your videos. In this video, we learnt that celery is an ingredient in Schezwan sauce.

A entire Chinese dinner for 4 would cost us only Rs.100 .thanks for sharing memories by Shri Llmye Sir.
I am wondering what took KUNAL this long after his so many food shows to visit GYPSY, I mean GYPSY is popular among people, that I strongly believe that it should have been amongst the first few to be considered years ago by KUNAL.
Vijay Sir I love your show and the way you host makes the food appear even more tastier and the show also more entertaining!! One recommendation : please try Le Plaisir from Pune. It serves some of the best Italian and Continental food. Highly recommended. 😊❤
Beautifully done, the food review was excellent. I would suggest to the Gypsy China Management to Open an outlet in Vasai. No Good Indian Chinese between Dahisar to Dhanu. Vasai now being the biggest Hub with an affordable cost of shops. The food is 👍
I am feeling so emotional right now seeing this my all time to go place and the guy who takes order know by name as soon as I call he says my order and address ❤
