Incredible piece. Thanks for posting!
I saw Assange had Gore Vidals book in his hands when being arrested, so I thought I would learn more about GV and his plays and view on politics.
Me too. The truth will set us free.
Interesting. I'm an admirer of Assange & Vidal. Thank you.
michelerandall123 he was one of the last of the American intellectuals, there aren’t many left.
but i rather doubt Vidal could have stomached Assange - even for a NY second.
Ilona Baier oh, I disagree, I think he would like him a lot.
Thank you for posting this documentary, I was searching for something like this. Gore Vidal is a legend and an American hero, wish he ran for president...
Its a great documentary. I'm glad you like it. I've also put part 2 up. There is some wonderful footage on the second episode!
Thanks
Gore was the last of a great generation of writers and critics...Mailer, Capote, Baldwin, et al...all that is gone now; the present crop of writers seem to have very little to say. I wonder why.
There is no such thing as a non captivating GV interview.
And there’s no one else I can say that about.
Take a look at Christopher Hitchens.
Really excellent documentary. Thanks for putting this up for Americans who never got a chance to see it
dean b You’re welcome
Thanks for posting these
`a creepy city...Washington`...my own opinion when I visited it once...in the Sixties.
Sandra Shevey what else when Congress keeps a very fat thumb on the inhabitants of D.C.
Brilliant documentary. I adore Gore Vidal! 🌷
I simply love him
brilliant fun wit.
Glad you like it TruNorth. I'll put the second part of the documentary up tonight.
Wonderful to see this charming documentary of Gore. The man is a legend and a hero.
Gore always valued his grand parents. I relate to that.
Very Important--happy this documentary exists.
Gore Vidal is one interesting fellow.
God, I love that house.
Thanks Nathan, I'll put the second episode up on Monday.
A brilliant documentary. Are you intending to put the second episode on? You have impeccable taste- 'Frasier' and Gore Vidal.
Yes, you can count on the BBC for a good documentary, you could say they're experienced at it :D
Sen Gore: " I will never rob your pocket to feed the dogs of war. "
I've also put up an excellent edition of the South Bank Show with Gore from 2008. Great interview in that too....
I've just started putting Episode Two of the show up. Just search for "Gore Vidal - 1995 BBC Documentary - Episode Two (1/4)"
Can you believe that he said his greatest attribute was that he never killed anyone?
Fucking legend and god
gr8 post...thanx
not a psychopathic killer but a great statesman...that type went out of style before Vidal was even born...which makes him even greater...
Vidal was awesome
I'm just converting them now. Part 2 will be up in 10 minutes and the remaining two will be up in the next couple of hours.
GREAT MAN...
How clever of you to notice what Vidal was not hiding; but apply that acuity to your syntax.
Please - could anyone answer the question of Holton Shulman? I hate having to ask it a second time :D
Does anyone know the name of the song that starts at 5:45? Thank! Great post.
Sylvester, he didn't have a twin. He was an only child. He might have referred to Jimmy Trimble as his twin. He was a boy Gore was best friends with in prep school. He died in WW II.
02:40 - tissue
03:02 - Not one moment I would like to relive
This guy is as bona fide as it gets. I’ve read one novel of his, Death Likes It Hit. Filet Mignon. Efficient. Witty. I’m pretty conservative and I think his Bush denunciations were imbalanced, but just the best writer.
GV thought race war was intense in 1995. Love to know what he'd have thought about 2020.
Legend and god
8.29: Gore almost tripped on the last step, could have been bad.
Gore the Great. The mentor of Hitchens
I am picking up what Gore Vidal is putting down.
Vidal just wanted to be like Mahler so much..poor Gore, never stood a chance.
Uhhhh.... Mahler? The late 19th century composer???!?!!! Well that"s
just OUT right Silly... Hopefully your not spewing the gospel of SILLY
considering your moniker...Just a bit of a lesson Preacher Man......
Gore Vidal...Author of High Esteem...Historical Genius...Atheist &
Truth teller......Oh Yeah, By The Way ....READ A GODDAMN BOOK!
Pussy................
Hitchens imitated Vidal
a central character being a `self-invented` character like myself.
Didn't know he had a twin...
Long live eugenics and communism
I believe he would be appalled at what has become of the Democrat party.
