What Floki and Thors are talking about in the house Is a big real life event' it is also covered in a new Viking show.

We like the mixing of real history and fiction in this.

Thors didn't argue with his son because he realized he hadn't found the answer to how to make peace like he says is so important. He is still hurting people and while its easy to say "I have no choice" Thors probably considers that an excuse and he still isn't strong or wise enough to fully live up to his own words and give his son the example he wants to.
Personally I agree. I don't think its idealistic unless you think all it takes is a friendly handshake and a few good will gifts to get peace with everyone. No it takes wisdom, cunning, creativity, dedication, and flexibility to achieve the ends he wants. You're threading a needle and that can feel impossible but there's always a way to get to peace even if that needle is VERY hard to thread. Ultimately similar to Thors going to war you don't always have those solutions at the time but the important thing is always working towards them and not accepting violence as inevitable but rather a failed outcome.
I just think Thors actually realized his son was making a good point not just being young and ignorant. Thors was being hypocritical and I love that he actually listened to his son instead of just going YOURE TOO YOUNG YOU DONT GET IT. He actually paused and considered his sons words with respect instead of being defensive because he DID have a point no matter his age and that's another reason I respect the fuck out of that man. Some good ass dad behavior.

Similar father-son dynamic shift with Rudy and Paul in Mushoku Tensei S1... Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

04:50 - I mean, he was Great. In the age when everyone murdered each other like it's no big deal and couldn't even imagine different way - you don't look down on some specific ancestor for being murderous conqueror (just like the others). You respect and idolize that ancestor for being especially brilliant, unstoppable, enlightened and often surprisingly lenient conqueror with unexpected tolerance to other cultures. People should be forever remembered by their unique and hard-won triumphs, not by their common sins, unavoidable at their time.

Historical context is important. We're not taking away from what he did, only pointing out that history is treated differently for different people/groups.
US History would often have you believing the natives were all harmonious with each other and nature... That most certainly is not true 😆

Eh no its so weird when people pretend like people back in those days didn't understand the brutality of war and the horrors of it. That's something people have always understood and lots of people have chosen to be peaceful. It really is bizarre to pretend like Alexander in all his travels EVERYWHERE never heard someone say "oh you can NOT kill people actually" and he just couldn't even comprehend or imagine that idea. That's absurd dude that's not how people work that's not how historical context works.
So no that's not the right way to put it in context that's like a cartoon version of what it was like the right way is to understand he WAS a warmonger and murderer of so so so many and he was fully aware he could choose not to but he still did. He WAS brilliant, he was unstoppable, he was well-educated and he was also a man who ended and ruined the lives of many many people just for the sake of his own ambitions. You include both the good and bad you don't just pretend like the bad doesn't exist that's crazy to me to just go "yeah no blind hero worship actually just shhhh about that other stuff that goes under the rug baby we only talk about the good stuff".
Naah fuck hero worship its a worthless practice. Actively harmful even if you know the generations after you will just pretend you only did good stuff if you're impressive enough for your time. There's zero incentive to be decent only to be famous and powerful because your great grandkids will just ignore your sins if you're cool enough.

@@Pragabond my apologies, whole decent answer with all the points was taking too much time, space and translation efforts, so a shorter superficial analogy instead. Imagine being the best of your kind, age and profession whole life with only hope to be fondly remembered for it afterwards - and years later get discussed like:
"No-no, this scum ate meat, and he couldn't possibly be oblivious to unacceptable cruelty of it. Don't tell me he just didn't manage to fully comprehend it and continued to live like others - even decades after Koko experiments proved animal's childish intelligence! That's not how people work. Plus there were vegetarian examples at his time. No kind immortality in memories for this guy, don't forget to mention he was a monster every time".

Just discovered your channel, thank you for covering Vinland saga, a big fan of the series. Would love to recommend if you could edit into the video more sound track and dialogue, which I consider crucial to recreating the vibe of the show. If copyright is an issue, personally I would rather sacrifice certain footage for a more intact and authentic audio and soundtrack. I believe I'm not the only one. would be great if u guys could consider.

I'm happy you found us! Unfortunately audio gets customer easier than video, especially music. I'm ss little as 10 seconds of audio, especially if we're not talking too, it can get caught and claimed. The audio filter I use helps some, but not always for music.
Even with all of my edits, i still sometimes get claims when uploading and have to go in and cut more or add more opaqueness to the video overlay.
I hope you understand and can definitely to enjoy our reaction to what's on screen.

I am a very big history buff especially vikings and world war 2 but I am self taught so I have a lot of holes, but I have read a lot and Were raised by the History Growing up in Denmark :) And yes I was also one of the kids that though the vikings were really cool and badass. Then of course I got older :)

Vikings are still cool... We just know that coolness came with some not so cool stuff happening. There's always something or someone worse... Just gotta keep history in context.

The past is the worst for every nation, every race, every religion... No people have "clean" hands... That's HUMAN history.
Historical context is important though. We can admit the bad while celebrating the good. Bad times brought us to good ones.
      Thanks for watching!
