Better late never! My last allium order arrived via FedEx at 3:40 p.m. on Thanksgiving eve, bulbs were planted in gardens by 4:18 p.m., and the snow began falling at 5:00, WHEW! Northwest Michigan, zine 5/6.
Isn't that the way it always happens! I'm always late...and then end up ordering extras if I have the space!!! I just planted the last ones on the 10th Dec. I dig/cover the trench while I'm wtg. It works like a charm. Dirt stays dry...trench ready to go. I just used plastic tarps. I will have to figure out planting area for next yr. since you have to keep moving them. It was 48 the day I planted. I planted out the 1st wk. of Jan. last yr. Our ground wasn't frozen yet...z. 6. In.
Thought - maybe you could get someone to rototill the areas especially since the ground is easy to work. Can't wait to see all those beautiful tulips bloom which means Spring is just around the corner (hopefully). I planted my tulip bulbs (only 60) in my pots which are now cooling in our garage. Also did a pot of paperwhites which are growing inside the house, they better not smell like pee or they are going in the garage. 🤣🤣🤣
Lots of work digging trenches. I'm planting bulbs in raised beds this year. This past spring, I had so many duds that didn't bloom. I can't wait to see your tulip harvest
It''s a heavy insulated water resistant cover, used in construction to allow small sections of newly poured concrete to cure properly in freezing temps.
I haven't planted my hyaciths, dafs, or tulips yet, I just dug up my dahlias as our first frost was only last week. One more day of dividing them and then I will start on the hyacinths. I don't think we get near as cold as you, even though I am in Canada. Vancouver Island to be specific. In fact, we hardly get any snow and our ground hardly ever freezes. We do get torrential downpours and lots of wind all winter though.
DIfficult, but much easier than digging in my clay soil. Remind me how this was originally amended and prepped for dahlias. I live a state over, in Nebraska. The drought made the native ground cracked and rock hard. What we do for plants!
Hi Christina - with which supplier did you place your large bulb order? Do you usually receive them this late? I’m in 7a and received my bulb order in mid/late October.
I did the same with my 6,500 tulip bulbs this year. It saved me so much time. Fingers crossed for the spring 🎉Watching from Ireland
Well now you're prepared for the next round of tulip planting! Too funny!

I am in zone 6b and I have planted as late as Dec 17th (couple of years ago) and they did great! (They weren't prechilled)

What is a concrete blanket and it's purpose? Never heard that term. Thank you.

I googled that as soon as she mentioned it, couldn’t imagine moving a blanket made with concrete, duh!
@@lisagee2789 thank you.

No kidding! Our soil was very hard this year with the drought too
Of course they would arrive 5 min after winterizing! Lol
Yes! 🤦♀️

Do you daffodils the same?
Yes - they are planted in the fall as well. I didn’t plant any new ones this year
