    Very nice. I would be interested to see what the final cost for the total build was. It may seem like a huge number, but look at it this way... it's an investment. The building just improved the overall value of your homestead.

      The Concrete was originally around $14,500, but the backfill labor and equipment and thicker concrete, made the cost go up $2000. I had them give me a quote for concrete apron I front of building(48'x20'). It was $3800. I will definitely need the concrete apron in front. Still waiting on gutter prices. I priced 2" of spray foam for the walls $5700. I haven't made my mind up on that. I may just insulate it myself.

    Maybe when you put the gutters up, have them run into a collection tank. And that water can be used for the toilet , washing the dogs or even a hose for clean the floors after a dirty job. Looks great!

    I know you're itching to use it, now that it's poured. But, take some of the advice here in the comments...let it cure as long as you can. Keep the vehicles and the tractors off of it for AT LEAST A MONTH. And when you get to the end of that month...put a coat of sealer on it. Wait a day, and put another coat on. If you thought $16,500 was a lot of money...these are small things to do to help ensure you get the best return on your investment. There's probably dozens of other projects (wiring, lighting, plumbing, insulation, etc.) that you can do in the mean time. No need to rush fill it up. Just my two cents.

      He is right you defiantly need sealer to keep the cement from absorbing liquid stains like blood from your processing and oil from the mechanical side.

      Theres an awesome product called Sealcrete. I have used it several times and wouldn’t use anything else. It goes on white and dries clear. You can get it in three or four finish levels. I spray it on with a pump up sprayer and then back room it in with a long handle paint roller. At least two coats but I usually apply three.

  • @Tonetwisters
    @Tonetwisters 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    When we built our house in 1987, after the concrete pour was hard, I took a level to it and found a couple rise spots which I marked and were subsequently flattened out. That, of course, was after the copper was laid out for the plumbing which was NOT the requested middle grade. If you ever have a house built, visit the site every day to catch the "irregularities," both accidental and purposeful. Because we DID, we caught the intentional effort to save money, and it ended up costing the contractor a lot more when he had to rip out the inferior and lay down the heavier.
    Evan, you could have considered opening this barn as a roller skating rink for a year, to get back some of those costs!:-)

    Looks great! 16k for backfill, level and concrete two years ago for 4000 sq ft is a bargain! My 768 sq ft shop slab last November was $10500, but $1500 was for a pumper boom truck to get the concrete over our home into the backyard. 5" monolithic slab, 3500# mix with a 4'x14' 7" thick area for the 2 post auto lift- just under 21 yards.

    Put a bottom seal on that ledge where the garage door hits. It keeps wind-driven rain from flooding your building. Use larger rock as backfill except for the last 6" or-so. Better drainage, more stable, and cheaper. A lot of what they charged you was because of all of the filling and other messing around. Like I said early-on, backfill is going to be very expensive and you have a long way to go.
