      Hey Dave! Good to see you buddy. I was just about to start watching your 4-year review of the Mahindra! Yep, we love the trains going by. They're near enough to hear clearly but not too close as to shake the house too much. :) Thanks for watching, sir! Cheers! 😀🍻👍

    Hi David! The grapple wins this round hands down. I think because it has the benefit of the considerable weight of the loader arms pressing it down on the ground in float mode. You rake probably wood have done better with the cinder blocks on it. Nice work! See you on the next one!

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors

      Hey Martin! Yep, I agree. And since it's on the front, you can easily set the aggressiveness as you go. Thanks for watching, my friend!!

    They say if the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail. That is certainly often the truth for me when it comes to the box blade. I use it for all sorts of tasks (see my last video) and I love it. So I say go for the box blade!!!
    Another great video David! Cheers 🍻😎👍

      Hey Dana! For multipurpose definitely. I still use my rake to awesome effect when starting and maintaining trails. In this case however, the grapple won hands down. Rake, scoop and put away all while looking forward instead of over my shoulder all day! Thanks for watching, buddy!

    The grapple is very versatile, not only did it rake it carried the grass away as well. Perhaps some weight on the landscape rake would help it pick up more in this application. Keep up the good work buddy!

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Paul! Yeah, I've used weight before and it does help. I think the biggest issue with using the rake in this particular application was the size of the work area. I appreciate you watching, buddy!

    I'm not a fan of looking backwards any more. So my vote is for the grapple even IF it didn't do a superior job. Extending the top link on the three point, as you know, applies down pressure on the implement and the change in angle causes it to actually pull more material instead of letting it slip over it. Shortening the top link allows more rear discharge of material. Fun but dusty job my friend. Dust gets in my craw on occasion too. Ain't it weird...it almost feels like it gets stuck on the vocal cords. On a non-helpful note, my dad would've strung some temporary barb wire and put the dairy cattle in there every day for a week or two. Problem solved and we'd then get to pour the orchard grass over our breakfast cereal !! See, I told you it would be non-helpful.

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL oh man, I won't be eating cereal any time soon. You crack me up Wendell. A small herd of animals would take of that area for sure. True about the top link adjustments. The good thing about the grapple is that you can adjust the aggressiveness on the fly while looking forward. I'm not a fan of looking over my shoulder all day either. I've got some nerve damage on my right side so it's literally a pain in the neck! Thanks for watching, buddy! :)

    It's nice to use the rake function of the grapple. I have used mine that way too. But now I hesitate after that one time I was "bulldoze" pushing with the grapple and got a small stick pushed up into my hydraulic fan. That was a pain to fix.

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Chad, yeah that's always a possibility. A lot of folks have told me that I need a grill guard over the last couple of years, but I'm pretty stubborn thinking that I won't need one. I don't know, maybe I do. I guess it's now a challenge to see if I can go along without one at this point. LOL. Thanks for watching, buddy.

    Hi David, maybe adding weights like you said and also adjusting the toplink the give the tines a more agressive pitch 🤷🏼‍♂️👍🏻. Have a good one 🙂🙋🏼‍♂️👍🏻

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Luc! Yeah those things do help. It turns out that I can just get it done faster because I use the grapple to pick it all up and put it away anyway so doing it all in one swoop is really nice. And for a bonus, I don't have to look over my should for hours at a time! That rake really does do a good job in most applications, though. Thanks for watching, my friend! :)

  • @IndianHemlock
    @IndianHemlock ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video buddy !! Boy that grapple is the do all isn’t it !! I think the rake would just plug up so fast then it wasn’t effective !! Is that a train I heard in the background ? Nice job David !!

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Quentin! You're right! About the only thing the grapple isn't good for is gravel, fine dirt and trying to use it as a forklift has varied (and catastrophic) results. LOL. Yep, about 3 acres width away is a rail line used by the Navy. It's one of the reasons we bought here. Love them trains!! Thanks for watching, my friend!!

    Thanks for the comparison between the capabilities between the rake and the grapple
    Weight seems to be a contributing factor either the rake
    Maybe a pass with the box blade followed by. The rake like you mentioned would do the trick
    Thanks for sharing!

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Phil! Yes sir, the weight is likely the most contributing factor along with the angle of the attachment. Either way, I got it covered! Thanks for watching, buddy. :)

    The grapple worked great for that long grass... Seems like they work well together, but if I had to pick one, it would be the grapple. PS. the trails are looking nice.

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors

  • @ytfeasel
    @ytfeasel ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The angle of the rake, like that of a boxblade, will affect how aggressive the rake digs. A longer top link will make the rake more aggressive. I have a 6’ rake for my BX25D and I will often hold the lower control for the 3point down for a few seconds while moving. This allows the rake to dig deeper than surface level. A grapple is next on my list.

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      100% right, Jamie. I was looking at getting a longer top link for that very reason. I love my grapple. It's on the tractor 99% of the time and I don't know what I'd do without it! Thank you for watching and commenting - I appreciate it. 😀

    I have a friend who has one of those takes. I never felt that I had much use for one but then again , I am one who has never had much use for pallet forks. I don’t think there is one single other person out here on you tube that would agree with me there. A grapple is where I choose to put my focus. Especially when every time I watch one of your videos David, I am reminded of how handy one would be for me. Or should I say “ will be”?

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Gary! I agree 100%. There's not a more versatile implement for the front end that I can think of. I do want a set of SSQA forks some day because I do need them from time to time and the clamp on version take a while to put on and take off. I appreciate you watching, my friend! :)

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Joseph! Yeah, it was disappointing. I could have made the rake more aggressive or go straight to using the box blade, but I was trying to get the grass up without digging into the dirt. Thanks for watching, mate! :)

    I was really surprised how well the grapple worked. I would have thought the tines were spaced to far apart. Just curious but did you try the rake turning the rake on an angle so that as the grass clumped it would cool off one side and create a windrow instead of a big pile? I'm not sure that would have made a difference or not. Just a thought. That area is looking good! Can't wait to see how it looks all done. Great Job David!

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Justin! No, I didn't think about trying that. It might have worked better doing it that way, especially with a more aggressive tilt and/or adding weight. But you know, even if it did work better, I'd still have the bulk of the work behind me instead of in front - making me turn around most of the day. Maybe I need a rear camera! Thanks for watching, my friend! :)

    • @JustCaidsDayFarm
      @JustCaidsDayFarm ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PaleHorseOutdoors Yeah having to turn around and look back all day is not fun. I have to do that a lot with the cultivating, box blade work, and brush mowing around all the trees and such. My neck get pretty stiff!

  • @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors
    @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi David, good example why the rack doesnt work in that situation. I notice my rake does not quite do what I was hoping either. I mean it will, but i would have to run over it a thousand times. I wonder if you would have angled it to the inside, then just started going in circles if it would have eventually made a pile in the middle? again, You may have had to make a few hundred circles though.

    • @PaleHorseOutdoors
      @PaleHorseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Kris and Joey! Yeah that method, including making the rake more aggressive with angle and/or weight would help a lot. I sure do like the work being out front though instead of over my shoulder. All these tools have their place - I'm glad I have each of them. Thanks for watching, folks!!
