This type of content is so important, especially in North America where there can be VAST distances between where the cows are and where people live. It's easier for propaganda to spread when people don't know where their food comes from and how farmers care for their animals. This kind of thing showing farmers looking after their cows' health really helps to educate people and get over negative stereotypes.

This is exactly the kind of public engagement I dreamed we could use to show how much farmers love and care for their animals.
You are doing so much good for the dairy industry, which has had more and more attacks from anti-farming groups.
Thank you for your honest and caring videos filled with the dedicated care of animals.

As Hoof GP was walking along recording, the cows had the following conversation:
Cow 1: “Girls! Look! It’s the Hoof GP.”
    All other cows: “Ooooo!”
Cow 2: “I had a problem a few weeks ago and he fixed me right up. Such gentle hands.”
    Cow 3: “It’s such a shame he’s not a bull.”
All other cows: “Oh, we agree. He’s dreamy!”

I'm a huge random info nerd, but I love when you show us all the different types of technology and things farms are using to make for happier healthy cows. I know not everyone thinks about farming being or needing innovation, but clearly animal welfare/ability to produce is always one of their goals. As a consumer its just so interesting to see what kind of things go on to get milk into my fridge. Appreciate all you do with the different collabs and networking so you can bring this info to us! :)

Wish I could of found your words to explain why I felt “it was one of your better videos,” when I saw my comment a day later when I re-clicked on this video it didn’t even come close to what I was feeling or trying to say and instead it sounded more like criticism (hate when texting turns out that way😳) and not even close to explaining WHY I thought it was one of the better videos. I like and want to understand some of the influences/circumstances in a cow’s life and the potential impact to their hoof care and health. I do have a bit of experience in the dairy industry and was raised on a cow/calf ranch background & even with that amount of hands on experience & background knowledge which was passed down through the generations, I find myself still absolutely fascinated with the new equipment, discoveries & techniques even though I haven’t touched a cow in almost 25 years (I became a nurse in my second career). I find myself wishing that I could share all of the innovations & knowledge with my father and grandfather, if still alive they would of been 99 and 140 years old and of course they would of been stunned and my father especially would of gob-smacked to see those 2 new crushes; wouldn’t need a extra set of hands; no more roping cows; tying legs up or getting bruised & battered doctoring a cow.

Mr. Hoof GP I grew up on a farm, and had to tend to the horses and cows, along with chickens, cows, turkeys, and pigs. For the winter, hands down, the best lower wear was insulated fishing waders. In the summer, of course something different. But the fishing waders saved me from freezing, I would guess, 30-40 times. Worth their weight in gold in the winter! Peace

Lovely explanation of how environment impacts (heh) the cows' feet! And no, I don't have a lot of practical use for the information here in the suburbs of NYC, but it's interesting to learn and soothing to watch.
Your foray into the windy wet put me in mind of one of my German great-uncles, who lived in a historic Einhaus or housebarn (it translates as "all-in-one house"). The Einhaus combined human living quarters with the animal barn, all under one big (thatched) roof. A stone wall with a pass-through door divided the human and animal halves of the building, and they were designed so that in winter, the heat from the cows helped keep the house warm, the heat from the hearth (which was against the shared wall) helped keep the younger animals warm, and the farmer didn't ever have to go outside in bad weather for feeding or milking. I remember asking my great-aunt if it was stinky to live there (I was about 6 or 7 when I asked this), and she said no, they mucked out regularly, so it mostly just smelled like hay.
We're doing well in my neck of the woods, though COVID's on the uptick again thanks to the new variant. :/ We just had our first snowfall a few days ago, and I'm dearly hoping for more. (I know, I know. But I love winter, and I'm a reference librarian, so it's not like I have to work out in the weather.)
I get the sense that cows are intensely curious creatures, because every single head in that shed was turned towards your camera while you were talking.

Another amazing & Informative video Graeme. It must be so hard for farmers to weigh up whether to invest in the easyfix floorings especially considering were hearing more about how they're struggling just to get a good price on milk. Having watched a lot of BBC's Countryfile program over the years and they talk about farming a lot I truly feel for farmers of any kind but especially cattle, they do soo much for their animals & farm but get very little reward.

I’ve been fascinated by what you do ever since you showed up in my recommended videos. I grew up raising beef cattle and we never even looked at their hooves. They were raised for food so, if one went lame, it went to the processor and into the freezer. We never even called a vet. We delivered the stuck calves and castrated the steers ourselves. We even loaded the semi trailers when they were sold off. It’s good to know that they didn’t need regular trims since they lived a mostly wild life on a hundred-plus acres. Thanks for another great video!

Thanks for explaining. I get it now. My dads cows only stood on concrete when being milked. In winter when weather was bad he kept them in but for the cows health he let them out as much as he could. They had an area next to the barn where they could go for shelter and it was dirt. You did a good job.

I like listening to you because it reminds me about my childhood. My father was in the army and my mother was an attorney specializing in international law. When we were in Germany, since they both worked, I had a nanny who was from Scotland. I forget the town but it was in the northern part of the country. Her voice was always a comfort to me in bad days and your accent reminds me of her. Good memories.

Doing well Graeme!! Looking forward to Christmas myself with family. Then I'm going to be sleeping in a barn come the 2nd of January. I have 4 mares that I'm looking after, and 1 is already starting to bag up a bit. So, I'll be in my Arctic sleeping bag on an Army cot, right outside her stall. Just in case she has trouble delivering. Wishing everyone a Safe and Happy Holiday Season!! From Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 💖 🇨🇦

Thank you for taking us on a tour of the farm. Farming has come a long way in advance practices for ensuring comfort for the animals. My grandpa when he was alive and farmed I remember things being very different. Floors were just cement, nothing was automated. My dad sat on a stool and milked. But he was a great farmer and did well.

Hi There...I feel exactly like the person who commented just before me. I watched one video because I was bored and now I'm hooked and subscribed about 2 months ago. I love seeing your sweet little family and the love you give to the cows. That's good for kids to see that when you have animals you take care of them. The lessons about taking care of cows that you share with us is very interesting... God Bless You and your family. LuvYa! Bye from Ohio USA 🇺🇸

It is so good to know that these girls have more comfort, safety and care. What a difference from less caring circumstances. And why not, they give food to us, and I am glad some are humanely raised and giving the milk with less pain or discomfort. Thanks for the news. Happy Holidays to you and yours !! 🎄🎅🏻🎄🤶🏻

I have the say one reason why I like watching this guy's videos so much is he is so polite and so respectful of the cattle that he takes care of and his music's a lot of fun especially as opening music I wish I could find that for the ringtone for my wife.
