The debate was "normal" which means it was a success. A VEEP debate shouldn't move too many folks and the fact that Vance didn't go on an unhinged rant speaks volumes. For that reason, I thought overall Walz fared better because he didn't stumble over his talking points. That part at the end when he challenges Vance with, "Do you think Trump lost the 2020 election?" was fairly good but when Vance dodged answering it with, "I look to the future," Walz should have then IMMEDIATELY jumped on that with, "Well, looking to the future, if Harris wins the election this November, will you concede the election or claim that it was rigged?" Paint that bastard into a tight corner. Alas, he didn't.
The debate won't have changed anyone's mind (at least those who've been paying attention). Both VP pick did what they needed to do for their campaigns. Walz was clearly nervous, but I would be too (relatable, if nothing else). As one commentator put it, Vance puts the polish on the crazy. He's a slick, smarmy dude and he's so...icky. Register now, verify your existing registration (you know, because of republican voter purging shenanigans), and vote. As election day nears, Trump and right wing attacks will become more sickening and absurd and as always, false.
The debate was boring, to say the least, I wasn't expecting a shouting match but it was like watching paint dry. First off, JD Vance is an articulate smooth liar. That is dangerous in itself. However, JD left himself open enough times, and Walz missed those opportunities. Tim got JD towards the end with the peaceful transfer of power, and JD was Kamala this and that to deflect. I think Walz won the debate because he showed honesty, integrity, and humanity. Those are qualities that you want in a VP, it's rare but JD? scares the crap out of me. The intelligent fascists can't be anywhere near our White House. Trump is stupid but incredibly dangerous and knows how to control his band of lunatics.

I legitimately think the biggest reason across most people who would actually vote for him is that many of those people are filled with hate and misery in their situation in life and want to burn the system down, and they don't care about the fallout because they can't picture their lives getting any worse than they are now. These people might not be able to articulate that feeling, but I suspect that is the largest factor of the multitude of factors.

Personally I disagree with almost everything you said, but I'm glad to see how a democrat sees the debate. I personally think that a lot of points about Tim weren't raised (Stolen valor, his "gender approving care" laws where kids can be taken from their parents if they don't affirm their children transitioning, etc). About the fact checking, at the beginning of the debate the mods said they weren't gonna fact check and JD fact checked the fact checking (parents immigrated legally to US and it's unfair for people to just cross illegally and be given the rights we had to wait YEARS to get). This is just my point of view but I am open to hearing other people's opinions.
I saw a fact check that said that Project 2025 /didn't/ actually want to have a registry of all pregnancies, but just to make every state report all of the miscarriages and abortions if they do happen, but I say that list along with the birth records, ya know, seems a little close to a pregnancy registry. I personally have not read all of Project 2025, and definitely have not read that specific part, so I don't know what the wording on that actually is.
