What a busy episode!! Lots happening…had a chuckle watching you and John trying to capture the caterpillar nest, and am pleased that he persevered! Not enough footage of the little guys, but watching Friday’s episode of your holiday in Thailand made up for it!! It was a beautiful conclusion to this episode - an amazing sunset and with the boys watching!! Thanks!
My husband just came in and asked me what I’m watching that has been putting such a huge smile on my face all morning. That’s easy. I’ve been watching the Newbys! First on the beach in Thailand, then on the farm in Portugal. What a joy you are. Thank you!
Always love to see the progress all you and the workers have made each week. All those little steps adds up to the finish line! Thank you for us the sunset, absolutely beautiful!
Almost like our African sunsets! Giggling like that Tara suits you! Love the double layered wall! What about a herb garden up there? The steps almost feel not quite like the rest of the stone walls. Perhaps I would make it quite wider to the lowest step! I know with John's green fingers, the boys with their tools and Tara as the boss, you will make it pretty! Good luck! Will keep my fingers that the bio pool will be finished before the rain is there! Love your work so much!
So much progress. Exciting! John’s problem solving skills are amazing. Gotta say the music behind the caterpillar section along with Tara’s laughter and commentary is classic. Love how you make a potentially difficult situation feel less difficult with a positive attitude.
What an episode!!! I guess, because of the processionary caterpillars you didn´t get lunch and worked the whole day!! I pray that the bio pool is finished in time before the rain comes! Thank you for this beautiful sunset!
Hello Newby's from SA. A natural insecticide is neem oil - just a few drops of the oil in a spray bottle with water & a drop of dishwashing liguid has worked for a few pests - grasshoppers, wasps, spiders, mosquitoes. Hope it helps. 🥰
I like the stone staircase, it’s nice to know that this is something you added to the landscape. With all those lovely spaces in between you have the opportunity to put some wonderful miniature flowers and moss even some herbs.
OMG the stairs look so beautiful hats off to Mario and his team. Love watching them Mario reminds me of my dad he was a very hard working Portuguese man miss him so much. Love your farm I got my grandsons watching with me some times they are 6 and 4 I want to take them to see the Azores in Portugal and he said we could go visit the boys he feels like he knows them and loves watching the boys. You guys are doing such a good job keep up the good work .
Oh guys! The caterpillar situation…John: ‘I’m gonna try and lower it down as easy as I can’….after whacking it with a bag on a stick many many times. 🤣😂. Well done both of you. Everything is coming on a treat. 😍🥰
Love how the bio- pool area is starting to come to life!...you could always soften the stairs with plants at the top & bottom & maybe herb pots leading up to Tara's veg area? Lavenders, thyme etc all beneficial to wildlife but also edible- linking both areas as you pass through. Well done Newbies, it's all coming together great!!
What an epic job that staircase has turned into, it looks great but also monumental. Nice to see progress on the bio-pool and the caterpillar intermezzo was hilarious. Wonderful and absolute stunning sunset!!! Have a great week you all!!! Cheers Bert🙏🏻❤
The staircase is turning into a huge project but we love it. It’s going to be beautiful. The sunsets are incredible at the moment Bert, so beautiful 🙌🏼
To encourage more viewers to your wonderful channel, I would have put bio pool in the title. Even if it was in brackets, I think people would be interested in your project 🥰
Vó amazing sunset. All the work that is now happening seems to go on at such a speed. The boys truly enjoyed the outside play and taking part in everything the way children should be able to do today. My opinion, nature is the best playground. And you Tara and John are such amazing parents. Good luck with everything that's coming but at the same time enjoy.
Blessed Sunday morning to all, the Newby family hard at work, thoroughly enjoyed your fishing trip in Thailand, wish for sure you were back there, continuing with the show as John likes to say. Thank-you for sharing your lives with us. Glad all is coming through. Have a blessed week ahead.🙏💖🥰🌺🦋👱🐶👱🏡 🇵🇹
@TheNewbys you revealed something new never known before about the processionary caterpillars, always something to learn with your videos. Hope you keep an eye on your pine/oak trees.🐛🐛🐛🌲🌲🌲
It's all coming together, I had a chuckle with John and the black bag on the end of the bamboo stick. As a child we made kite's with bin bags and a ball of string ❤
Christine here, beautiful sunset at the of a busy day is so rewarding, a reward that you and John deserve. Steps are looking great, hoping progress on the bio pool will quicken before the rains! Please keep a check on those caterpillars, would hate for anything to happen to you all and Obi. Hugs from South Africa 🇿🇦 xx
Tara we lost our beloved dog Peanut, aged only 6 years, 3 years ago because of those caterpillars on our pine tree. They are deadly for dogs!☺Stunning sunset at the end!♥
Egypt and its palaces come to my mind when looking at those stairs. Mabrouk 😊 Be blessed all of you, Tara, John, Crusoe and Sawyer ❤ Love from wintry Finland.😊
Wow! So much progress in just a month! I'm loving this! Watching the bio pool finally come together and seeing those gorgeous stone steps leading down to it is just so satisfying. I feel like it is my own place as much excitement as I have for this! I am sure you all are busy but wow, it is coming together.. The bugs on the tree were giving me the giggles. The plastic bag had a life of its own up there and I just couldn't help but giggle a bit. Thank you for sharing your journey with us and just know you are so fun to watch. The boys are just adorable as they grow and I am so pleased they are getting so much time with mom and dad in these formative years!
What a watch! Those steps are coming on a treat. And that sunset with the boys in front! Mesmerising! You certainly work hard, but you're sure living your best life and its paying dividends. Love seeing how things progress. Stay safe.❤
When you were talking about natural removal of insects in your house I thought about planting natural insect repellent plants around the entrance of your home like basil, etc. I love your journey, keep it going.
I really enjoyed this episode with so much going on and getting achieved and then topped off with a glimpse of family life with that lovely peak into the busy kitchen ❤
I'm amazed when someone of your sayings are many that I have heard and grown up with. It makes me realize that we are all alki no matter what continent bee live on That may sound strange but we are "one".❤️ I saved my money when I was 18 and went to Europe with a friend. That was 52 years ago. I will never have the money to visit again but I wish I could. I would come to Portugal just to meet you and say "hello". I love watching your progress.
Love how the staircase is coming along. Great job guys! Btw in Northern Spain at the moment visiting our daughter and many of the pine trees are covered with the Caterpillars!
Always enjoy watching the changes on your land. The biopool and big home progress is impressive. Your attempts to bag those caterpillars was entertaining. Ill be walking the Portugese Camino in May and will be thinking of you and wondering what is happening in your land. In the meantime, I look forward to your Sunday vlogs.
Hello my beautiful family. Sorry its been a while, but i have been ill. Really enjoyed watching you all tonight. Your video came through before i came to bed.xx My how your home is going forward in leaps and bounds. I was so happy to see you get rid of those.nasty caterpillars. When you have children running around, a beautiful fur baby rolling in the grass having fun, you have to be on the ball, all the time. I do hope John manages to get the other nest, as those csterpillars have to go some where. I guess eventually they do become butterflys. I dont know the spelling of these crawlies, so cannotlook them up. Ok. I must sleep. Take care Keep warm and dry.!!!! I love you all with all my heart. Your one incredible family.xx ❤❤❤❤❤😊🎉❤❤🎉😊❤❤❤❤❤
John and Tara… you two are so resourceful and innovative!! well done ! it’s so fun to watch you solve problems! i am referring to the toxic caterpillars nest!!!! you Go Guys!!
😂😂😂😂...two new super heroes for Marvel. Bag Man and Saw Man! Exterminator for hire! The steps are looking fabulous, and the area around the pool is going to be gorgeous. And that sunset...
Hi Newbys, you can really get a sense of what that terrace is going to look like now Mario's done the back filling! Even the kids in school are taught the dangers of the processionary catapillars in our part of France!
So much going on! But you were right to prioritise getting rid of the caterpillars 🐛🐛🐛🐛 The steps are going to look spectacular going down to the bio pool!
Tara, "frankie off grid" discovered their is a particular bird that eats those catapillers and have built a birdhouse to get those birds to nest in it.
Great to see that they are almost ready to pour the slab. Looks like you’ll have your new “not garage” and a whole moving in project very soon. Always so much to do!
TARA....there are products you can inject into the pine trees once a year in September to prevent the nests or necklace like rings to put on the trees. We live on a property in Spain and we have just this weekend also had to cut down the caterpillar nests and burnt them, so we will use these products next year. 😊
Loved John's ability to adapt a saw to a long handle saw. I thought he might of jumped on the trampoline to get more height. Looking good. Love to you all.
When we first settled in central Portugal our garden was full of pine trees and caterpillars. I read about them and their habit is to come down the tree in a line following each other nose to tail. So i had an idea and went to the hardware store and bought axle grease and put a thick circle of grease around the tree about six feet up from the ground. Every morning i went out to check and found them trapped in the grease and unable to move. I put a wheelbarrow under them and with a blow torch burnt them and let them fall into the barrel and away from my dogs and cats. It worked so well and would do it again to save my animals.
The Newby's are making their mark on this beautiful property! Well Done! Save these photo stops make a picture book telling the story like a journal for both of your boys!
My grandfather back in the 1940s and 50s used to rap a very long stick with rags at the end dip it in or soak it with fuel oil of some kind, very flammable light the fire and reach up and touch the nest with it you would burn them right on the tree. I don’t remember the trees, actually catching fire just burning the nest. Thinking about your recent forest fires in Portugal it might be a bit scary or risky to try that. Good luck.
I absolutely love everything you do!! In a few years when you continue this amazing journey with the 🐝 and your bio pool and flowers and grass the hobbit house, what a dream! And travel on top incredible ❤
Looking good. Allmost there with that steps. I realy had a nice laugh while John was trying to get that bag over the branch. 😅 Very innovative I must say. Such a beautiful sunset. See you guys next time. ❤
Another entertaining video! My husband wondering why I was giggling as I watched John trying to snag the branch with the bag! Great job John! As always can’t wait to see more!
Those stone masons and Mario are marvels in their building skills. I'm so impressed by European builders, they're so skilled and dedicated to doing their job well, unlike some of the Western builders who try to cut corners here. They really are a credit to their trades.
thank you for sharing another video..i love your laughter tara while watching john doing his best one way or another to get rid of that nest up the pinetree..
hey lovely family, I really love to watch your episodes 🥰 always watch them 😜for the caterpillars you can get some traps. I think they work with hormones, but I am not sure if the traps should hang there earlier, before they have built the nests. I live on Mallorca and here they are also just shooting them down with an air rifle and then burn them. Looking forward to the next episode . Have a nice Sunday❤
Thank you so much, I had no idea about these caterpillars and we have a dog and many cats and a huge Pine tree in our front yard. Lovely episode see you on Wednesday. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh those dratted catapillars, we had them in Puerto de Santa Maria and I was terrified. These critters are SO DANGEROUS. So happy you saw the nest. Looks to me as if Christopher Columbus should have had John on board, things would have worked out faster. Well done John, you are sure a trooper!!!!!
Very ingenious trying to get those worms. We get something similar - I call them bag worms. As soon as I spot them, I cut the spot off & burn them. But there still might be more of them in the tree. I sometimes have the husband get the tractor out & use the bucket to get closer. But I'm dealing with a crabapple tree - a lot shorter than your pine tree!
This is reminding me a bit of me holding my 94 yr old mother as she leaned over to snip off the head of a Chinese Praying Mantis that was snatching and eating live bees in our pollinator garden. We're in Toronto and invasive non-native praying mantis are not good to have in your garden. They eat everything from spiders to birds!
Hi guys!. I live in Mallorca and as we have tons of pine trees in the island, caterpillars it is always an issue, we call them "procesionarias" and we use pheromones tramps that you can easily find on internet in the trees. Use them, they are incredibly usefull. Best of luck!!!!🐛🍀
I can't wait until the final touch of every inch of your masterpiece with all the helping hands that join your adventure to make it reality. Kudos everyone
Hi Guys! Your property is just flourishing with your love and hard work. John’s ingenuity is always fun to watch😅😅😅. Sorry John, least we forget Tara’s pizza/bread oven thingy😅😅😅. That’s why we love you guys… look at all the beautiful transformation so far with positive results. Keep it up beautiful people! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Also just from farm experience, John should look into a burning torch for around the gardening/property clearing among so many other jobs. Your new toy
The pool is looking amazing; what a great job they have done. might be worth getting a decent pump and hose on standby just in case of fire and you can use the pool ... but I am sure you have thought of that. Thanks for the vlog !
Det händer så mycket nu, alla jobbar för fullt. Trappen och poolen kommer att bli jättefin, John är så duktig att lösa olika problem, jättebra att ni tog bort spindelnätet i tallen.🥰
What a hoot! Watching the gabage bag was hysterical. Caterpillar extraction was highly entertaning. The Flight of the Bumble Bee Song as the bag flew all about!
Nice job"The caterpillar Man " Tricky to get them but you done it John👏 The stairs are looking lovely in keeping with the stone wall. The build is coming along quickly now . Also the pool wont be long until done yippee Thankyou for sharing Tara John Crusoe and Sawyer♥

So glad you enjoyed the music choice Cindy 😂🙌🏼
I agree about that music. It was perfect for that littl😂 comic interlude!
Obi chilling in his dirt hole is adorable!
Mario and those guys are such had workers that stone stairs are looking so good happy to see the bio pool is almost finished 😊😊
What an episode!!!
I guess, because of the processionary caterpillars you didn´t get lunch and worked the whole day!!
I pray that the bio pool is finished in time before the rain comes!

We thankfully got lunch, might have been a bit late but we grabbed something to eat afterwards Sandra 😊❤️

So, the minor battle with the black bag / caterpillars made me 😂. The spectacular sunset was a WOW!!! I truly love your vids. NEVER boring.
Ohmygosh!…. Watching John with the bag on a pole and having the music CRACKED ME UP!!! You guys are the best…❤❤
It's all coming together, I had a chuckle with John and the black bag on the end of the bamboo stick. As a child we made kite's with bin bags and a ball of string ❤
I couldn’t help myself but chuckle too Faith 🤭🤭

We are so so sorry to hear that Anne. That’s something we definitely don’t want happening on the farm 🙏🏼
I'm very allergic to these cutterpilars. And they are very dangerous for dogs. Take care.
😢😢😢😢😢
You are making a life of Heaven in Portugal. The skies are so beautiful. I just love Obie, he has marvelous parents. God Bless.
Those caterpillars eat all the leaf s a drop poop droppings that track all through your house and crawl up houses a dtrees
Egypt and its palaces come to my mind when looking at those stairs. Mabrouk 😊 Be blessed all of you, Tara, John, Crusoe and Sawyer ❤ Love from wintry Finland.😊

Thank you Svetlana, each and every comment helps 🙌🏼❤️
Can't wait until next time to see the completion of the steps and bio pool. Well done, team.
The sunset was magnificent. Your own piece of paradise.

Happy Sunday, the Newby's 🥰
Happy Sunday to you too friend!
Another exciting episode, but they always end too soon! Good job, John, on the caterpillar nest.
So glad to hear you loved the episode Avon 🙌🏼

Yes, the caterpillars are deadly! Heard about them on other Portugal farm channels. Stay away Obi!🙏🏼 John is rocking that boyish haircut!😊💯👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🌹💯😊
Good catch on those dreaded caterpillars. They can destroy a tree overnight. Love seeing the Biopool get started.
Hopefully we can get all the nests Karen 🙌🏼
Tara, "frankie off grid" discovered their is a particular bird that eats those catapillers and have built a birdhouse to get those birds to nest in it.

With grease🤔, you say ~Great idea
It has to be thick axle grease and needs to hold to the tree 100% successful
The Newby's are making their mark on this beautiful property! Well Done! Save these photo stops make a picture book telling the story like a journal for both of your boys!

Looking good. Allmost there with that steps. I realy had a nice laugh while John was trying to get that bag over the branch. 😅 Very innovative I must say. Such a beautiful sunset. See you guys next time. ❤
I loved this little deviation. It was fun watching John take on the task. And ,Tara, great eye!!!!!
So glad to hear you enjoyed watching John’s attempt at covering the nest friend 🤭😂

Never a dull moment with the Newbys. The stairs are fantastic. I was feeling itchy watching the caterpillar removal. Blessings from Canada 🇨🇦
Never a dull moment Tracy 😁🙌🏼
thank you for sharing another video..i love your laughter tara while watching john doing his best one way or another to get rid of that nest up the pinetree..
John was working really hard to try catch the best Dorinda 🤭❤️
Great job ridding yourself of those toxic caterpillars, and congratulations on the further progress you are all making on the farm.
Thanks Dennis 🙌🏼
hey lovely family, I really love to watch your episodes 🥰 always watch them 😜for the caterpillars you can get some traps. I live on Mallorca and here they are also just shooting them down with an air rifle and then burn them. Looking forward to the next episode . Have a nice Sunday❤
We will definitely see what we can do about the other nests, I’m sure there is a solution. Thanks for being here Tina 🙌🏼
Once nature has softened the stark newness of those rock stairs it will be a most magnificent feature!!!😊
🙌🏼❤️
That’s quite clever of John making a longer saw handle
Thank you so much, I had no idea about these caterpillars and we have a dog and many cats and a huge
Pine tree in our front yard. Lovely episode see you on Wednesday. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
What an amazing sunset! I am looking so forward to seeing the pool project completed! I think its going to be a magical addiction to your farm.
The sunsets are gorgeous friend ❤️❤️
You are making incredible progress. Stone steps are very impressive. Glad you are getting in liners, etc., for bio pool. 😊
We’re getting there slowly but surely friend. Thanks so much for watching 😊🙌🏼
What an absolutely beautiful sunset. ❤❤
Sitting on my couch moving back and forth and sideways trying to get the bag on the nest as if I can help John😂
Perfect music!
Love that Joelle 😂😂😂
I am amazed how quickly this project is going. Also, your chickens were so calm while the digger was nearby!
The chickens are amazing friend, they’re so used to all the movements on the farm 🙏🏼
The sunset is breathtaking!!
Beautiful orange sunset! I love those
I'm sure Obi thinks he is project manager...of everything 😂. Love Johns problem solving mind. Too right John. You do you 👍💚
He definitely thinks he is the project manager Michelle 😂😂
That’s good to know friend, thanks for sharing 🙌🏼
I can't wait until the final touch of every inch of your masterpiece with all the helping hands that join your adventure to make it reality. Kudos everyone
Thanks friend!
Hi Laura, thanks so much friend. Yes let’s focus on the positives 😂🙌🏼😁
Also just from farm experience, John should look into a burning torch for around the gardening/property clearing among so many other jobs. Your new toy
Hello Newby family. Looking forward to watching as always. 🙏❤️👏🎼
Hi Noeline! We hope you enjoy it friend 🙌🏼🙌🏼
You had to figure the big ole bamboo stick would eventually come in handy!😂😂😂
The pool is looking amazing; what a great job they have done. might be worth getting a decent pump and hose on standby just in case of fire and you can use the pool ... but I am sure you have thought of that. Thanks for the vlog !
Great idea friend. Thanks for sharing 🙌🏼
Det händer så mycket nu, alla jobbar för fullt. Trappen och poolen kommer att bli jättefin, John är så duktig att lösa olika problem, jättebra att ni tog bort spindelnätet i tallen.🥰
Tell Mario he does a fantastic job WOW! And love seeing the boys! They’re getting so big!
🙌🏼🙌🏼
What a hoot! Watching the gabage bag was hysterical. Caterpillar extraction was highly entertaning. The Flight of the Bumble Bee Song as the bag flew all about!
So glad that could put a smile on your face Robin 😂
Incredible , Gorgeous, the most AWSOME sun set EVER😊😊😊😊😊😊
The sunsets are absolutely incredible at the moment friend ❤️❤️
@TheNewbys you guys blessed for sure!!
Big work accomplished! Well done!
What an amazing sunset 😊
I spy with my little eye. Those dangerous caterpillars. Good job Tara and John. RIP caterpillars🤯
I keep peppermint and citronella on hand at all times for pest control. I have no bugs in my house at all.
Working from dawn until after dusk. Huge strides made. The vision coming to life.
Slowly but surely the vision is coming to life 😁❤️🙌🏼
Happy Sunday. Having just watched the Newbys, on my way to watch Life by Living. Coffee and Portugal....what could be better?
