Another great video. One thing I've learned over the years is flickering point source lighting like candles really makes a graveyard.. And it's better to error on too much light then too little.
I love learning from your videos. Your directions are clear and easy to follow and not full of extra things that can be confusing. I noticed the Olde English D on your Orange and Blue hat and it looks great! Greetings from Detroit! Keep up the great work.
This is a fantastic video. You should really consider making another video tutorial about sound/ adding sound effect to props! With Halloween fast approaching we could use it! Great work!
Sir you deliver such quality and long content, I lowkey feel like I should be paying for it. Hey I also have a question, are there any lightning light effects out there on the internet because I can’t find any?
You could become a Patreon supporter at Patreon.com/vanoaksprops or buy a shirt at shop.vanoaksprops.com if you wanted to support. Or just tell a friend about my channel. All of it helps. As for lightning effects, there’s the Perfect Storm lightning fx box, there’s the Lights Alive line of lightning fx boxes. It’s check out frightprops.com to see what’s out there.
I created a power distribution center using a waterproof hinged box and DIN rail mounted Wago blocks. I brought 120VAC into the box with its own circuit breaker in the box. I then used a AC to DC power converter to get 12 vdc at 5 amps. So I have a mix of 120vac and 12vdc 5a available depending on my decorations. Then I used lamp cord and vampire plugs to run power to each display point.
Great video! I am going to do 4 of the 12 Volt LED pumpkins with 4 male RCA plugs. Can I make a junction box? If so, what kind of AC adapter do I need going to the box? Thanks!!!
Hey, as quoted in Young Frankenstien, "Nice Grouping". great to have a collection of similar focused builds on one page. I have a portion of my Halloween display on the hill behind my house. Boot Hill cemetery kinda thing. White crosses and a hanging Skeleton from a tree. I use a perfect storm for a lightning effect and it works ok. I want to step it up by attempting a lightning strike effect, I thought a series of LED's in an 8 or 16 channel chase from top of a branch to the ground ending with a Large strobe and a billow of smoke at the strike point. Do you know of any resources that may offer some guidance in accomplishing this? Thanks for you work.
Can I ask how you waterproof the power supply that is outside of the waterproof box? Do you have it inside your house/garage and then run the cables out?
Just now watching this video - I really enjoyed it! So much great information. The section on gobo lights was especially interesting - something I hadn’t considered before, but now I’m intrigued and definitely plan to create some in the future. Thanks for sharing!
For your homemade lightning box, I noticed during the demo that the lightning looks like it was in bands of light. Was this the case or due to how it was picked up by your camera?
It's the rolling shutter on the camera that's capturing those bands. You'll see the same when trying to film LEDs if they're not refreshing at the same shutter speed as the camera.
Hey boss! You talk about flicker circuits in a few of these, and looking at them they are usually barrel connectors. How do those work with your new lighting system? An adaptor?
Exactly. You could do a more permanent installation by cutting, stripping, and soldering the connections but I like the option to remove or replace parts, so I just went with adapters.
@@hardiehardley sorry. I misunderstood the question. The barrel connector adapters need to match whatever size is on your power supply. You’ll want to measure the outside and inside diameters as well as the depth of the plug to find the correct size for your power supply.
I live on a corner lot with traffic lights and much light pollution. Do you have any idea how I can create spooky mood lighting for Halloween in my yard? What would you do to filter out this pollution?
Unfortunately light pollution is a haunts worst enemy. There's not a lot that can be done to create moody lighting when dealing with traffic/street lights.
@@VanOaksPropsthank you for giving it some thought. On the ‘bright’ side I don’t pay much in hydro bills as my house is fully illuminated both inside and out. Sucks for trying to be festive though.
Links to the original videos are in the video description and everything can be found there. Clunky, I know, but listing everything for all ten projects in the description looked WAY worse.
I’m looking to up my lighting game for our family’s haunt this year. So the timing was great and this will be a great resource for future reference.

The OG of home haunts gets an upgrade? Beautiful
Easily my favorite DIY Halloween prop videos. I've followed quite a few and they work like a charm!

Great job Derek!
Awesome video, awesome haunt. Smartly done, fun to watch.
Thanks a bunch!
Just wanted to say thank you for all your great videos.
My pleasure!
Awesome video! Thank you for the hard work you do.
This was a great refresher and I learned something new. I ordered those Ustellar LED lights.
Good compilation!!

Noted!
Great video! Could you explain your whole audio system? And are the rca connections used for both audio and lighting?
The rca connector lighting is its own separate thing. Our audio setup is just a few speakers and amplifiers. Not very high tech at all.
Best Halloween videos on TH-cam! ❤
Thanks just ordered some lighting from interstellar. Right now they are on sale
Awesome!

Great video and information as always. I found some of the products in your affiliate links but would love to see direct links in the description.

One thing you can do is tie a loose knot in the wire before you feed it through the pumpkin for strain relief

I use solar candles.🌞🔥
I've looked around and can't find any reference to which flicker circuit you use. SimFlame? Or?
I use this circuit for the flicker effect: amzn.to/3kENdSL
