People in the West fail to grasp that Iran means to come for them, and would gladly rule over the entire West with proxies similar to Nasrallah and Sinwar. So 'liberals' in the West hate us for helping protect them, which means, basically, that they are suicidal. Western liberals are suicidal..

Worse, that number appeared to increase AFTER 7 OCT, indicating those who didn’t support Hamas felt they were not radical enough.

Sinwar personally met with some of them and tried to get the elderly and infirm released in exchange for elderly and infirm Palestinians before the fighting started. Some were released without exchange. So far only 6-7 captives have been killed by Hamas but 60-70 or so have been by the IDF air artillery and tank fire

Hamas is not Shia, and therefore lack of support for Palestinians cannot be put down to Shia and Sonni divide. This lack of concern for Palestinians is the leftover of the war that Arabs lost when Israel threatened nuclear strike and Arabs resignation of the unconditional support of Israel by the U.S. This Shia and Sonni enmity had been dead until the Iranian revolution. Westerners exaggerate it with no basis. It is because of the American sanctions on Iran that Arabs have had to go along with and that of course angers the Iranians. There are only minorities like ISIS and Taliban who see it through religious differences. Given Israelis military power Arabs just want to stay out of it. They know that Israel will bomb Cairo and Saudis just as easily as Lebanon. So, what is the point of getting dragged in? But you talk to Arabs on the streets then you will see a totally different picture. If anything, Arab states are in fear of their own population to get any closers to Israel. As for Russians, except they have never had any overarching interest in the Middle East except for the opportunity to get at the U.S. . Russia is a land power and has more oil and gas than they know what to do with. The only reason Putin got involved in Syria was the lack of serious intervention by Obama. Had Americans got involved earlier on Putin would have never acted as aggressively as they did. For the same reason Arab states don't want to provide refuge for Palestinians because they know that they won't stop their military actions against Israel and again they don't want to be dragged it. This is why Bin Ladin went to Afghanistan because they would have never allowed him to set up a training camp anywhere else.
You may also note that some of Arab regimes were sort of “secular” having more in common with fascist and communist ideologies imported from the West than traditional Muslim religion. Hussein’s Iraq and Syria are obvious examples. That made them leaning towards Soviet support (or Russian) rather than Western. Obviously seeing Arab world through Sunni-Shia conflict is a gross simplification.

Given Israelis military power Arabs just want to stay out of it. They know that Israel will bomb Cairo and Saudis just as easily as Lebanon. So, what is the point of getting dragged in? But you talk to Arabs on the streets then you will see a totally different picture. If anything, Arab states are in fear of their own population to get any closers to Israel.
As for Russians, except they have never had any overarching interest in the Middle East except for the opportunity to get at the U.S. . Russia is a land power and has more oil and gas than they know what to do with. The only reason Putin got involved in Syria was the lack of serious intervention by Obama. Had Americans got involved earlier on Putin would have never acted as aggressively as they did.
For the same reason Arab states don't want to provide refuge for Palestinians because they know that they won't stop their military actions against Israel and again they don't want to be dragged it.
This is why Bin Ladin went to Afghanistan because they would have never allowed him to set up a training camp anywhere else.
You may also note that some of Arab regimes were sort of “secular” having more in common with fascist and communist ideologies imported from the West than traditional Muslim religion. Hussein’s Iraq and Syria are obvious examples. That made them leaning towards Soviet support (or Russian) rather than Western. Obviously seeing Arab world through Sunni-Shia conflict is a gross simplification.

Saddam was backed by the west. The New York mayor at the time proudly admitted it on the streets that Saddam was used to weaken the nastier Iranians. They sold him whatever he asked and didn't report the 5000. Kurds that he killed using chemical weapons. It conveniently came out around the Iraq invasion.
Why? Because they knew they could always take it all back if not directly then Israeli air force was always more than happy to oblige.
