    Does this mean that the UK will have the second most powerful navy, even though its size and manpower will be a fraction of other navies? These essentially are American supercarriers with fewer but identical planes.

    • @p4Explosive
      @p4Explosive 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, mostly. Second most powerful will always be debated. The QE class will be able to achieve similar sortie rates as US carriers, though this will be using the F35B variant which trades payload and range for STOVL capability. This may be important when considering the ranged risk from enemies at which the carrier can be operated. Also, the B variant will require more maintenance due to being a more complex piece of kit, lessening the possible length of the carrier strike group's operation

  • @squirepraggerstope3591
    @squirepraggerstope3591 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    "The build-up beyond 48 is important". Quite, when just one of these ships could take "70 plus" F-35Bs (using the PS platform as a metric), implying a balanced airwing of up to c60 each, all aircraft types, to equip them to something approaching full potential. While as for cooperation with other allies re maritime forces, the question really must be "who?" And let's be honest; the only credible answer must be "The US and other Anglosphere powers; our only real and reliable friends and allies!"
    Accordingly, our sellout government's attempt to hogtie us to every EU-run common defence/security project extant must be rejected absolutely and fought to the end!

      I do agree the Royal Navy is small but there are more pressing matters to overcome rather than get more ships in our navy such as the lack of sufficient finding to the NHS and the Type 45 destroyer is a great example of Quality not Quantity as it is able to engage multiple targets.

    People are underestimating the potential of this partnership with the US. The backbone of the US carrier fleet is the Nimitz class. Brilliant ships that have served well but they're 1975 tech and are coming up for renewal. This is a perfect opportunity now that the US are so integrated into QE class to replace some of the US LHD's/carriers with this class of carrier: ukdefencejournal.org.uk/us-navys-ambitious-350-ship-fleet-including-purchasing-queen-elizabeth-class-ships/

    As for "choices made" to "take some money out of sustainability", they were entirely wrong and dangerous "choices" by recreant politicians of the worst type and must be remedied. Put simply, the minimum credible escort fleet is c30, NOT c19 and our force levels need rebuilding accordingly.

    Now, the Royal Navy should build a third and fourth aircraft carrier, working in the efficiencies that come with follow-on ships of the same class. (Think Essex- and Nimitz-class carriers.) After all, the Royal Navy is the "parent navy" of both the U.S. and Japanese navies. Rule Britannia!

    Yeah you have a so-called "aircraft carrier" that does not have enough ships to form a battlegroup, that your navy calls, "strike group." The only naval force that your navy is going to strike is a group of pirate ships made out of wood, armed with cannons that fire round shots. Your navy is so cocky as it hides behind the naval dominance of the U.S. The naval and defense community around the world are both aware that its designation should be an Amphibious Assault Ship. it is closer to the size of USS Wasp than any CVNS. It is even significantly smaller than any U.S. conventional carriers that have been decommissioned the last 30 years.

    slight problem. The F35 is a total lemon and cant be used in wet conditions lol. Even a tear drop will stop it flying. So it will make it totaly useless on a carrier.
    So far every test they have done on the F35 has failed or been riged to make it pass the tests.
    US airforce have already had several F35,s scrapped cause they got wet and were un-repairable. Not sure what the problem is but it has something to do with the Stealth coating getting wet or even damp. it cant fly through clouds so how is it supposed to get to its operational altitude?
    Isreal had to scrap 1 of theirs as well cause it got hit by a bird or a S100 depending on who u believe lol. Syria claimed they fired at it with a S100 and damaged it with a near miss. Isreal claim it was a bird strike. it landed ok but will never fly again.
    If it was a bird then how is it supposed to handle getting fired at. even a small rifle could bring them down.
    Australia r trying to cancel the order for the F35. The US airforce dont want them and have extended the life of the F16 as cover till a better fighter can be designed and used to replace it.
    Not 1 country that has the F35 want them and all say its totaly useless. But cause of all the money they spent buying them they cant afford to buy better planes.
    The F35 is curently the worst plane ever made even by US standards.

    • @terryking1274
      @terryking1274 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And a slight problem with your exaggerated tear drop story. One of F35 just had a accident during a refueling where the refueling basket came off and the F 35 engine ingested it and it didn't stop it from flying safely back to the carrier.
