    let's get it right this time.. no TSR-2 fiasco/betrayal.. no Laboour and USA killing the baby in the cradle. UK needs to build its own weapons.. and so is not subject to outside pressure from 'allies'.

      ISIS is evil, however what about the civillians killed in Iraq and Afghanistan by British troops? That is civilization for you I guess. Dumb imperialist moron.

    British and Italian; class and style! And the concept is pitched at meeting exactly the needs required. Tempest should hopefully be an innovative world beater; and leave any conceivable Franco-German effort for dead!

    So, does this mean low-level interdiction/strike strategy is dead?
    Tempest is a natural replacement for Tornado, a plane optimised for fast, low level evasion of enemy air defence and direct strike. While the strategy might hold for suicidal raids of heavily defended targets, it needed rapid revision in the Gulf were medium level precision strike became the order of the day.
    I'm not sure Stealth is proven against a sophisticated enemy, the F117 was eventually hit. The UK appears to be putting all it's eggs in this basket.
    This plane might well morph into a primarily low-level plus stand-off weapons platform.

    2030 - 2040 ??? Its 10 to 20 years from now. I wonder if it will still exist the necessity for a fighter in those years?

    • @TheRealBleach
      @TheRealBleach 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes 2035 is very good. The jet has been in development for many years (The jet was seen at RAF Farnborough) and this jet may be the first 6th gen jet on the planet. The Mig 41 is coming out later and America may invest into the Tempest, I think it will be as good as the Electric Lightning and the Harrier. Other countries have 5th gen fighters said to come out around this time so 2035 seems incredibly ambitious target.

    The UK Tempest 6th generation has been given over to India to finance it.Trump just authorized Lockheed -Martin to developed a 6th generation fighter.

    A very good interview I thought. Placed very astute questions to people who are well placed to answer. Conclusion? Brexit is causing a huge problem to UK's largest industry. The UK has no future aeronautical arms development programs outside of Brexit, and not enough funds to drive one forward itself. BAe (Incidentally the initials translate as 'poop' in Danish) has been given the challenge by the government (funding by a 'black' program - Haha Government paid BAe to find an idea to punt to journalists) to come up with a 'concept' to punt to others to inject funds. Desperate times I think... But BAe is certainly full of very talented people, and deserve to find a home for their talents. But Brexit is really raising its ugly head here. Best of luck with this 'project', it looks totally unprepared to me.

      GordonjSmith1 your full of shit.Brexit is happening and BAE has won the £39bn the Type26 Frigate order to Austrailia. So your argument is shit. Jealous much. The German will back out of the of the next generation Eurofighter and the UK will lead as usual.

    • @waheex
      @waheex 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      how leaving a huge bureaucratic monstrosity that is dying both financially and morally will destroy the UK's arms industry if beyond me. Once Italy's toxic debt spirals out of control the EU will be really struggling. The EU broke itself. People can see that. It's unnecessary a vanity project for Germany. One of the reasons the eurofighter took so long was Germany's finance minister kept threatening to withdraw. So much for European cooperation under the EU

    • @GordonjSmith1
      @GordonjSmith1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Reply to TheFreshman321 - Well you are correct Brexit in one form or another is happening, and BAE did win an order in Australia. However it actually won the 'type design' and the vessels will be built in Australia by others (although I would guess BAE will correctly want some of that 'action' as well). But as for the rest of it hmm well let us all wait and see shall we?

    • @GordonjSmith1
      @GordonjSmith1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mindburner - no the UK arms industry will continue to do just fine. That is not what I was addressing - what I was addressing is that the item in the video is referring to European arms procurement / research projects - and planes in particular. The German's did indeed cause quite a few problems on Eurofighter, and their initial insistence on developing the software was a practical/political error. However one should be clear that the US doesn't want the UK to develop its own planes - it wants the UK as a customer, and there are few, if any, other countries who have the 'deep pockets' to 'co-produce'. The French and Swedes are rather good at building fighters, and the Germans recognise the need to get it done. Regarding Italy, you are probably correct. Regarding Europe, I am not sure, but who said everyone should agree all of the time?

    • @johnwalsh3635
      @johnwalsh3635 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's hard to see what difference Brexit will make to the UK arms industry. Most exports go to countries outside the EU and the UK already cooperates with non-EU countries on research and development. The UK will always attract the best brains and talent, inside or outside the EU.

    Rolls -Royce does not have a 6th generation engine for the Tempest.and can not complement the F-35.Typed Wang Zhenguo and VLRAAM for China s 6th generation airplanes and missiles.

    • @aerospaceanalysisinsighta222
      @aerospaceanalysisinsighta222 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      EJ200 is probably still the best fighter engine in service today, and Rolls Royce have moved far ahead of that now ageing baseline. As to missiles, have you heard of Meteor?

    • @PlasticGangsta
      @PlasticGangsta 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah Corrine China's single largest problem with producing a half decent air superiority/strike fighter is their inability to produce a decent engine and that is a well known fact. It is no big secret and anyway lets be honest if you guys could produce a decent fighter you wouldn't have based your air force on variously updated versions of the Russian Flanker over the years. Just latching on to a single seemingly" superior" system and fanboy screaming it from the rooftops as an answer to any and all comments (third time on this thread!) just highlights how little research you have really done and how little you really know. The western intelligence community has learnt to take Chinese official claims with a heavy dose of salt. I am sure western press releases etc are not 100% accurate either but on the whole the freedoms accorded populations in the western democracies ensure it is very much more difficult for corporations or govts to blatantly lie to their customers or electorate. Do not get me wrong we all know it happens but the Chinese govt has proved time and time again that they have no such worries. For a start they do not have an electorate and they do not have to worry about misleading their citizens, (I do not like using that term in regards to Chinese people I want to say.... subjects?) why would they? They do not answer to their subjects, they are not accountable. I myself have seen Chinese claims to have a fully working rail gun system. They even went to all the trouble of covering up a great big turret on a test ship in one of their PLN naval yards but of course nothing ever came from it! As for your supposed 5th gen fighter, the J-20, well, the less said the better hey? I understand patriotism but I can never understand Chinese patriotism. You have absolutely no say in your own govt or the way you live. You have no freedom of speech, you cannot criticise the leaders you had no part in elevating. Rise up take your freedom and then you would have a country you could be truly proud of.....

      Oh yeah, the British build about 17% of the F-35 and Rolls Royce in partnership with General Electric were the original contractor for the F-35 Engine. The project was called the F-136. The F-135 from Pratt and Whitney was eventually selected but that had as much to do with politics as any superiority of the P@W engine. They were concerned with the political impact of the Rolls Royce engine being installed as the British, primarily through BAE systems or its subsidiaries were already responsible for 17% of the F-35 project. If the engine had also been built in Britain by Rolls Royce that percentage would have risen to a level unacceptable politically. However I am sure that Rolls Royce will revive the project for the new Tempest and with the 20 odd years they have before the aircraft is scheduled to enter service they will have plenty of time to design a superb aircraft engine the same way Rolls Royce have been responsible for some of the finest aero-engines ever built.

      yes indeed.. and at the core of your argument about the status of Chinese people in China.. what follows on from a government that disregards the will and enterprise of the people is that they become delusional and the effect of that is that you aren't staring at the tyranny of logic and so make decisions based on political philosophy which leads to poor management decisions in complex programs like jet fighter development and manufacturer.
      and let's not forget China has not engage in a first level conflict since its creation in 1949.. so its all been shield rattling..
