the guy wears a mouth guard, you know who does that? Boxers. Boxers wear mouth guards and Endo wears that because he's a beast, he comes prepared to lunge into tackles and bust ups, I love it.

What impressed me the most about Endo, is how well he reads the game in the opposition's final third. He has to be positioned so well it's almost instinctive to know where he should be 5 seconds before Liverpool lose the ball. Every time the opposing team wins the ball back he'll somehow pop up and stick his legs in to win it back or make a foul to stop the counter.
It's quite insane, I don't remember seeing anyone doing it this well. There are plenty of DMs who can win the ball back in their own half but this is just sensational stuff, the consistency is unheard of, what's crazier is that he's not that quick, it shows what an intelligent player he is.

I really like the Japanese national team when they are at the world cup. Solid technical skills and good quick passing between small quick players. It is a style that causes headaches to the big strong lumbering defenders found on most European teams.
I had strong hopes for Endo, and he really delivered.

  • @Gss333
    @Gss333 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +106

Endo said after playing eight consecutive games in a japanese interview in January.
'I am not a player with a promising future like MacAllister or Szoboszlai and I don't care about being a starter.
I am only focused on simply fulfilling the opportunities and roles I am given.'
I suppose Klopp didn't bring him in because of his skills or scoring ability or something, but it is this desire to think "first of all for the team and not for himself".
I would say it's easy to understand if you compare it to Manchester United. What they lack is players with exactly the same mindset as Endo.
Finally, even most Liverpool fans forget that Endo did not play pre-season for Liverpool.
How much time did Fabinho and Keita spend fitting into the team?
Endo is only a couple of months, coming from another league.
He is a player who came in to replace Caicedo because we couldn't get him. Imagine how much pressure that must have been. It would be, by analogy, as much pressure as joining Liverpool to play as a replacement for Salah.
Endo is just a priceless player with "the true liverpool mindset".

And there is a bias about nationality, not so much against Japanese, but young English, German, Spanish, French, Italian players automatically get rated more highly than other nationalities. Mo Salah suffers from the same, not because people are anti-Egyptian specifically, but because there are pre-conceptions about what a Great Forward would look like and where they are from.

The fact Endo was captain of Japan gave me a lot of hope he would turn out well. The Japanese team is very good technically, with a lot of quick passing between small quick players that give the tall & strong European teams big headaches. While he is no creative genius, a mobile DM who can find pockets of space in front of the opposition box is a superb partner for the more creative players on the squad. He helps the talent around him play better.

Endo's first couple of games for LFC were when he was thrown in, when we were one man short, and shored up, except against Spurs where we scored an own goal with 9 men on the pitch in the dying seconds. Up until then LFC were frustrating to penetrate for Spurs.
Happy you pointed out his ability winning headers and not only that but use them to make passes. For a guy that small he has the same ability as Jota to win headers. Also scored a long distance header winning a duel in the box.

First few games he could not anticipate where other players were, so he could not safely turn with the ball and play it forward. Now that he has tuned in to the other players, his speed of progression is very good. He does not progress the ball out of the back quite as quickly as Fabinho did (he is not as good under high pressure from behind), but Endo is more mobile so he finds more pockets of space high in the opposition half. He is also a better quick passing player than Fabinho. Overall he is an upgrade.

After watching the Burnley game at Anfield, it was crazy seeing the difference between how Endo plays and how Hendo used to play. The progressive passes & always looking to break the lines forward. Hendo was Captain Backpass in the 6, nearly always passing back or to the side. Endo loves to push it through the middle % doesnt hold on to it, which will only help the likes of Mac, Curtis, Dom, Harvey, and the forwards.

Our current midfield knows how to attack empty space and ask for the ball. That's what frustrate me in previous season that the likes of Hendo just drop a few yard to receive a safe pass and when they got press after the safe pass they just decide to go backwards and keep recycling over and over. Our game flow was abit stale because of that but not this one currently. the ball is always going forward even the space is small. One thing I'm really upset about this season is our playstyle this season suits Thiago the most from the past midfield but he just can't get himself fit.

Endo is new, he is just playing safe atm.... minimising mistakes. Besides there's other players further forward who can ball carry, however IF Endo is in the 1st team plans next season he'll be controlling games. YOU WATCH, mark my words!
Love this, it was bang on! What's always irritated me is that there's always been top level Japanese ballers but none of them have been given their flowers. Nakata was a prime example. Had this dude been south American on Spanish etc you'd never here the end of it. Pundits and analysts need to show some respect to this nationality it's bloody 2024.
    Superb video.

When I first saw him, against Newcastle, I was 😮 'who is this guy?'.
I was very impressed but then started hearing 'knowledgable' fans dissing him, saying he was struggling.
Started doubting myself, but knew the guy was good. Hopefully he can help us to no. 20

I called it. Dude filled in as a Center Half on the Japanese national team. 30 in Japanese years is 27 in mere human years. Dude won’t start slowing down until he is 33. Even if Liverpool changes systems, he will sit there and protect (insert long passer in the midfield) and provide stability.

Am glad you have given Endo the credit that he well deserved; unlike all these pundits/commentators 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I recall Mc allister did lose the ball numerous times ; it was bad but I can’t remember which games they were though!

Your analysis is so spot on as to how good Endo is and how he has made Macallister an even better player (even though he is "out of position" as most people say) and so consequently Liverpool have been an amazing team this year once they all got settled in and used to each other! You're the best babe!!!

Great exposition of why Liverpool were not the losers in those transfer 'battles' last year. Perhaps the only greater win in midfield was Arsenal's improvement after landing Rice. Transfers are two-edged. If your team doesn't get someone, it means a rival club has benefitted. Fortunately Liverpool have had a great record of buying players for less than others, and getting great returns.

Another brilliant piece of analysis. And you’re absolutely correct, I don’t think anyone expected to get such a player of such quality, for the money, including Liverpool probably!
It also really highlights the fact that clubs pay frankly ludicrous amounts of money for the likes of Caicedo, when there are other fantastic options available that are overlooked.
I agree that he should be a starter for us, and if he continues to play at the same level, he could be the one that carries us on to to major silverware, and will become one of our best ever signings.

As Defensive or Holding Midfielder, Endo has been performing excellently. His only weaknesses are severe lack of recovery pace and random lapses of concentration where he got pickpocketed. EPL's pace is notably faster than Bundesliga, that's why he was struggling in the beginning but now he has acclimated himself.
