Oh my, I'm sooo glad you did this! Your face through the whole thing said it all. You just scratched the surface of their genius. You didn't even get a taste of the hormonies these girls dish out! Cindy and Kate have the most beautiful and powerful voices you will ever hear and the B-52s are one of the greatest party bands that ever is was or will be. I've seen them live countless times and their energy is off the charts. They can't seem to make a song that isn't catchy and energetic, even if it's about some of the saddest or weirdest things. Next you need to hear Kate's voice. Try out Roam for some beautiful harmonies and Legal Tender to see why they called themselves the B-52s!
this is my ALL TIME favorite group for listening to music just for fun's sake. Finally got to see them last year in concert after all these years.

I saw them play San Diego Sports Arena in 1991. Had just graduated high school, I took my friend Robin. I still see her, have her over. It was her first concert ever. She still talks about it.
I’m glad you did this one. Cindy Wilson really gives this song life. The B52s are great. For me, especially their first two albums. The name of the band, as I understand it, is from the beehive hair styles Cindy and Kate wore.

"Bee-Hive" hairdo was abbreviated to B-52, as they got bigger and bigger and everything "atomic" was in the rage during the 1950s.
It took me years to finally figure out that she is singing to the sea - begging it to bring back her man who drowned in it. She's singing in the last chorus, "He's in the motorboat...where's that motorboat...her man's in the motorboat." Quite moving in a strange way.
I didnt even put 2 & 2 together... I thought somebody just stole her man, now this is even sadder

I've been loving this band for a very long time. Their concerts ain't nothing but LOVE.
Korvetts was a department store chain. Divinity is a type of candy.. She's feeding the seabirds the divinity candy she bought in Korvetts so they can bring back her man.
The Sea took her man. This was my wife's song when the submarine I was on put out to sea. This is on our memorial day play list in memory of the Scorpion and Thresher and the WWII boats that are still on patrol.
My all time fav b52 song
B-52's are my favorite band and this my favorite song by them. For their day they were obscure, cutting edge, and unique. Borrowing from 50's and 60's fashion and style, throwing in some post punk/new wave.....they were the coolest.

I love that you get the pain and desperation in this song contrasted with the dance beat. It really sets the song apart. Love it.
She acts this song with her eyes. But that voice!
I saw them live in 2019, it's a given that in their 70's they have slowed down on stage, but the sound, voices, and show is just as good as it was back in the day. It felt like I was watching my aunt's and uncles jamming the hell out.
I’m their age, from Athens too. All those bands were having fun, not taking things “seriously” n just providing a way to dance n blow off some steam.

He was a genius...maybe not the most technically gifted guitarist but he had a style totally unique to himself. It's a shame he died so young :/

India, I really loved your sweet reaction! I saw the B52s in Toronto back in 1982. Give Me Back My Man will always be Cindy's tour de force. Everything about the B52s was brilliant: the sound, the authentic retro clothes, beehive wigs, etc. I worked in a club called Dominoes back in the day and I used to get lost in a hypnotic state hearing to this track. Liked and subscribed.
I was 12 in the hollywood hills when i listened to this all the time all alone. now i am here watching you. gotta love it. i had no idea what fish and candy were.
One of my all-time favorite bands. My favorite songs are "Quiche Lorraine" and "Mesopotamia". The singer and guitarist were brother and sister. Unfortunately, he died in the 1980s from AIDS.

The greatest Dance Band that ever was! They established their Beach-Head riding the "New Wave" of music in the early 80's. You'll have the most fun you've ever had on your feet dancing and prancing to the beats of the B-52s!!!

Love the B-52s! They were some of the pioneers of New Age music, kind of a hybrid between Punk and Pop. Try "Rock Lobster," "Planet Claire," or "Dance This Mess Around."
I wanna hear this in the 60s with Phil Spector.

The B-52's were named after a wig in a wig catalogue.
The term "B-52" is southern slang for a beehive or a. bouffant hairdo, which Kate and Cindy showcase. (reminisce of a nose cone of a real B-52 bomber)

A B52 was a hairstyle in the 50's/60's. The then drummer and now guitarist had a dream and that is what they named themselves. They were a fun party band and were known for wearing wild wigs for quite some time. They are a lot of fun.

From my understanding this song is about a friend of Cindy's who was killed or injured in some kind of shark attack and she is pleading withe the fish. This is one of my all time favs. I suggest dirty back road and their whole first album titled the b52s

I hope you'll play the B52's big hits 'Rock Lobster', 'Planet Claire', and 'Love Shack'. All are really fun! Perhaps more fun than any other pop music before or since! 'Love Shack' has the best official video.

What makes this song so painful is that her man died. She is pleading to whomever to bring him back to her, but it sadly won't happen. It's a plea that won't be answered.
But she’ll give everything….
And in the shorter version (which this is), she loses it. The longer version takes you up to that moment, but the shorter version takes you over that edge.

B52s is because of the hairstyle of the 2 girls. 1950s hairstyle nicknamed "B52".

Her man had drowned, shes offering things to the sea to return him to her. The singer Cindy Wilson was often barefoot or wore flats because she is tall and when in her usual blond bee hive wig looks way tall.
I guess in the south, where this band started, they call beehive and bouffant wigs a "b52" because they look like the nose cone of a b52 plane. Although in this vid they aren't wearing that type of wig, lol. You should check out all their albums. So infectious and you will dance.
If you listen to the lyrics she's bribing the sea birds to bring her man back. That doesn't bode well. Either he was lost at sea, died at sea or she's just plain gone crazy and thinks they're responsible or have some power to bring him back.
