You know its funny, I always liked J Cole and thought he was one of the best but between these last 2-3 years I feel like he has reached another level and completely mastered his craft. Now I really find it difficult to choose who is better between him and Kendrick. Before I thought it was Kendrick by a landslide but Cole has sharpened his skills. Now we have to wait and see what Kendrick starts coming out with but man i'm loving the new Cole. I loved his old stuff like the warmup and I still think my favorite album from him is The Sideline Story because the mix of bars, story telling and nice sonically sounding songs and hooks but he has gotten so much better. I like Drake too but I feel like Drake has stayed stagnet in his craft for too long. He definitely dropped to #3 for me a while ago

And honestly even though Kendrick hasn't dropped an album in 5 years, the 3 albums he had in the 10s (GKMC, TPAB and DAMN.) are more modern-infusing and enticing. Cole makes very old-fashioned music, and that isn't going to be incredibly interesting in this decade of music. If Cole rapped over more ambitious production throughout his career I think he would have been much closer to Kendrick, but he isn't let's be honest. Rapping wise yes, not discography wise.
