Van De Graaff Generator
PRINCIPLE:
1. electrostatic induction
2. action of points
DIAGRAM :
CONSTRUCTION:
1. Let A be a metallic sphere, mounted on an insulating stand
2. B and C are two smooth pulleys moved over a silk belt.
3. D and E are comb-shaped conductors placed near the pulley.
4. The pulleys are continuously driven by an electric motor.
5. Comb D is connected to a battery of 10^4 volts.
WORKING:
1. Due to the high electric field near the comb D, the air gets ionized
2. The positive charge will get repelled and stick to the belt
3. They slowly reach near the comb E.
4. Due to induction, the comb E acquires a negative charge and the sphere will acquire a positive charge.
5. This process will continue until there's a limiting value of charge acquired on the sphere.
LIMITATIONS:
1. The leakage of charges from the sphere can be reduced by enclosing it in a gas-filled steel chamber at a very high pressure.
USES:
1. nuclear disintegration.

sir i have a doubt in the comb d the electrons of + - is attraction and repulsion on air not in belt, then the replusion of + charge is going upward on the way there some - and + charges are in air so the + charge can will attract to the negative charge on the way , then on the belt less number of + charge to reach the comb e then how the more potential power in hallow sphere finally
