- www.alicook.com Ali Cook illusionist and magician, performs the trick that killed Houdini on CBBC's television series 'The Slammer'.
The water tank escape or the Houdini water torture cell is the ultimate escapology act.
Also Houdini invented the world famous illusion metamorphosis or the sub trunk. Ali has combined the two illusions to create something new. In particular Ali Cook invented the new curtain system for this illusion as can be seen in this performance. No matter how much you rehearse this is a dangerous escape. Do not try this at home.

actually Houdini died to a punch to his gut that was ruptured his abdomen and he didn't go to the hospital so he later died of internal bleeding, but a *a lovely trick all the same.*
Great trick! Truly amazing twist on the metamorphisis trick. But this is not the water torture cell, the trick that "killed" Houdini. That trick his feet were inside the lid and he was completely suspended upside-down. He also did not die from the trick. He collapsed afterwards due to medical issues causes days earlier. Still amazing
he did that really fast. is metamorphosis but with water
The slammer omg I haven't seen this show in sooooo long they stopped playing this where I live
Yep they stopped it in Australia too
I remember watching this in Australia my childhood is literally this show
TopHat Unicorn same
JJ Anderson yeah remember on abc 3 I'm from Sydney
what do you call a magic owl? what? Houdini!!!
I just wanna know how'd they switch like that..
kam frusciante I
kam frusciante the girl unlocked him to get out then they switched
kam frusciante there were 2 glass boxes he went in the one furthest away from the camera then when the curtain came up she went in the nearest one to the camera while the man inside was already out and standing behind the curtain
Actually it didn't take Houdini 20 minutes to do it. It took him about two but the rest of the time he was sitting backstage reading the newspaper. True story.
its the SLAMMER!! one of my fav childhood shows

Houdini didnt die by a water trick he told a college kid that he can withstand any blow to the stomach and before he could prepare for the blow the kid punched him 3 times in the stomach. Houdini had also had a ruptured apendex so punching him in the stomach worsened his apendex and he died a few days later
The trick is pretty easy to explain but I like how you guys swapped positions. Great take on and old act.
OMG I haven't seen this show in about 10 years!! So many years ago!! Harry from Dick N Dom.. Used to love him.
ikrr
CarolinesConcertVids YO SAME
CarolinesConcertVids YEAHHHHHHHHH I LOVED IT TOO BUT FORGOT THE NAME! IM REUNITED
How can you hold your breath for that long? So many years of training
I don't have any friends
alicookofficial hi
Lol
if i was kidnapped like that i would drink the water

+Master Roshi true
Limited Air
Same!
Adam Loudon I wouldn't...
Rip Harry Houdini
at the beginning, I was like "OMG he's gonna die" and then they swapped and I was like "good thing no one died wooh"
when they put the lid over i had an anxiety attack
Okay, just 2 things: 1: To the best of my knowledge Houdini never performed an underwater transposition, only underwater escapes. 2: None of Houdini's escapes were responsible for his death; internal bleeding from being sucker punched in the gut was what killed him.
So this isn't "the trick that killed Houdini" at all, is it?
Great illusion, and very well performed. However, it gets a thumbs down for misrepresenting itself in the title and Houdini's death in the description. This first rate trick stands on its own. You don't need to be deceptive to sell it.
Loved this show when I was small
That was amazing. Good luck on the rest of your career and you preform lots of more magic tricks
Thank you Gabe. Please feel free to check out my other videos.
alicookofficial hi
Oh shit I remember this show!
Same
What's better than a Sub Trunk routine? A Sub[merged] Sub Trunk routine !! Well done.
Houdini died because a ruptured appendix da
Gotta love the slammer ;) Best kids show ever!
HEY HEY GUYS!!! GUESS WUT!!!!! HOUDINI? NO... HOODINI!!!!!!!!
Finally
Harry was a great great guy
This was Houdini's best trick. He died from an unfortunate muscle bracing incident and appendicitis.
How the hell did he do that?!
houdini died from a punch that he wasnt ready for
A classic master piece one that will never be forgotten, And as tricks go when involving water always very dangerous no matter how in control of the outcome - Brave ali lol
Man, this was my show back in the day
I think it's cool that when the magician mentions doing a countdown, they use the music from the Countdown game show.
Houdini did magic effects. Yes he performed escapes as well. But Escapes such as the Water Torture Cell was a stage illusion.
this isnt the trick that killed him he got killed from a punch
I remember this show. I loved it.
What the fu.. How
ASTONISHING
The college student actually asked Houdini if he could take blows to the stomach. Houdini said yes and the student punched his stomach several times before Houdini could prepare.
Others however think that this didn't cause his death. Houdini suffered from appendicitis before this incident and refused medical attention.
When your classmate reminds the teacher about homework 2:22
yea he started doing that trick where he had to ready his muscles in his gut before he punched him, but he wasn't ready and the guy punched him
@BigBadMan Didn't mean to offend anyone- just a way to get people talking
I miss this so much
Glad I'm not the only one who wanted to correct the title. As others have said, this is not how Houdini died. I'm sure he would have wanted to go out doing an escape trick but that was not to be.
I was going to bring that up, but you said it better. Not to mention that HOUDINI'S underwater trick was an upside down "Water Torture Chamber" and not a water filled Substitution Trunk. Don't get me wrong, what he did, he did wonderfully, it just doesn't have as much to do with HOUDINI as you might imagine from reading the title.
Amazing timing on *********** and the way you do ************** was pretty good as well. The words have been replaced with *** to mantain the magic. :D
Some reinforced plastic can stop bullets (not that kind but still). Even the child proof plastic would be tough to saw through.
Houdini claimed that he could take a punch from anyone on earth. Backstage, a fan decided to punch him in the stomach, before Houdini could brace himself, repeatedly. This burst Houdini's appendix. Infection set in and he died some time later.
Thats kind of a combination if houdinis Chinese water torture chamber and the metamorphosis
Just a quick follow-up to the message I just entered below.
Houdini was punched three times, in quick succession, at McGill University, in Canada, after a performance at a time in which he was being interviewed by student press.
He'd been ill prior to this, and though the historical story says (probably accurately) that he was unprepared when the punches came--Houdini permitted people to hit his muscles to show their development--again, the damage was due to his illness (a swollen appendix).
Usually the duplicate dies behind the scenes at the end of this trick, thats why the cloning machine is very useful =(
Harry Houdini died of an appendix infection neglect. It was removed but infected other parts that could'nt be treated. Not with a salt solution nore atibiotics because it did'nt ecxist in those days ...
My fav tv show of my childhood
Ha ha. We're so busy getting the glory some nights we forget she's in there
@VancouverMagic Cheers mate
This is not houdinis water torture cell
peritonitis, Yes you are correct, where the water rumour came from am not sure either way still a very clever and dangerous trick
if u look carefully they never locked the lid or put the staps on
@Jaysink1 Cheers mate!
H-H-H-Houdini was my favorite magician
Well hopefully the magic owl doesn't die. What do you call a magic owl you asked?
*HOODINI*
~Vanoss/Evan
When Houdini did this trick he used his own costume tank that had hidden levers to help him escape from the tank
i dont care if this is not how he really died i still think this is an amazingly cool trick
stop at 4:13 and enjoy : D
by the way @alicockoffical this was truly amazing an it sure will bug me. if you wouldve just escaped behind the curtain i wouldve said ok i have an idea of how you did that, but how did you swap so fast?????
Thank you Julia! A magician never tells, but thank you for asking!
Lab Rats Challenge, backyard science, nev bear, and dennis and gnasher are my fav.
Far out is my childhood. Always watched this on abc 3 after school
Wow....anyone have a clue as to how this is accomplished? Even though it is a trick, the timing on the swap is amazing.
Great performance Ali!
how the heck did he do that?
I remember watching this when I was younger
This is an true miracle. Thank God and Jesus Christ for allowing Ali Cook and his assistant for allowing them to escape and not be injured.
I have never seen anything like that on the slammer
His appendix was removed but it had already ruptured so he eventually died
Houdini died by a punch in the stomach with some disease. He didn't have time to flex and stuff before someone punches him in the stomach, so the boxer didn't know and punched him in the stomach before he had time to do that. He died on Halloween after. I learned bout him
Wowwww The Slammer. Haven't watched this in years
Ha ha Just seen this now. Thanks for keeping the secret!! I wish more magicians were like you!
WAIT RE WATCH! when they swapped, she did NOT have the hand cuffs on...
This was actually very interesting... and fun to guess and wonder on how it was done, but like every good magician i dont expect you to just tell me your secrets. so till i can figure it out, great magic act. keep up the good work and great entertainment
Hey Ali,
You wanted me to reply. I thought you performed the illusion quite well, and using the water box was a nice twist to the common switch routine. Good job :)
I noticed the locks were missing after he escaped.
An amazing effect. But you should know as well as any magician that Houdini didn't die in the Water Torture Chest. That was only in the Tony Curtis movie. Furthermore, what you have here ISN'T the effect Houdini performed. What you have is a Substitution Trunk filled with water. Houdini did the Substitution Trunk, but not filled with water like this. So you've actually created something original.
Great presentation! Super entertaining!
Why did they cut the bit out when you show Richard Whitely what word you got out of the letters? :p
A teen killed him
Houdini didnt die in a water trick, he died due to someone punching him in the gut too hard and puncturing something.
@KarstenJohansson Cheers mate. Yeah cavorting aces is pretty scary :)
and its getting shown on childrens tv.wtf!.how times have changed in just a hundred years!
Question mark?
id like to see him do it without the black sheet
OH MY GOSH I USED TO LOVE THIS SHOW
I watched this before as a kid
They never put the padlocks back on the lid of the container
who else went on the houdini ride at six flags new englend where the room flips
how does someone hold thier breath for that long?
Where has the padlock dissappeared to after the escape? Ha Ha. Love Ali Cook. Great magician. Saw him in Edinburgh!
Houdini did not die from this trick I figure a magician would no that, Houdini died from a blow to his abdomen from a college student, the student didn't give Houdini enough time to get ready for the blow...
I remember this tv show
Houdini died from the punches of two teens in his make up room.
he actually got punched by a boxer that asked him if he could handle a punch by him in the stomach
O...M....G!!! I USED TO LOVE THE SLAMMER WHEN I WAS A KID!!!!! I always try to find it on tv and TH-cam but I totally forgot what it was called! I can't believe I'm being reunited with my fav show from my youth! (I'm 12) OMG WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW
Wow, looking over these remarks I think they set a TH-cam record for misinformation.
No, this wasn't the same kind of "Water Torture Cell" Houdini used (the Cell did NOT of course, have anything to do with Houdini's death), but this is a clever variation of the "Metamorphosis" illusion performed by Harry and various partners, including his wife, Bess--the best known of the latter.
Houdini had appendicitis BEFORE he was punched, otherwise, the punch would have been painful, but harmless.
Have you ever watched my performance where I presented Houdini's metamorphosis trunk act at the Magic Castle. You can either Google or look for "Takeshi Academy Magic"
Thanks. I will look at your performance. Please feel free to share any videos with me. :-)
