    That"s Rocky Aoki . Rocky originally was from Tokyo, Japan. He had 8 kids, 2 of which are Steve and Devon Aoki. Rocky was the founder of Benihana. In 2005, he sued four of his children (Grace, Kevin, Kyle, and Echo) for an alleged attempt to take control of the companies he founded, which, at the time, had an estimated value between US$60-100 million

    I took two years* of Japanese. It was pretty fun learning a new language. I am native bilingual Spanish and English. I definitely recommend taking up on learning a new language you will not regret it, no matter what your major in college is or even if you are working in your career.

    The whole language learning thing makes so much sense. I grew up with no english speakers around but started watching lots of family vlogger videos at age 10 in english and at 12 I was basically fluent and had no problems whatsoever in school with learning english, straight A every time. Idk if this works always but thinking back it makes so much sense now why I could learn it quickly with nobody to actually speak to and just watching famil vlogs as they speak in a simple manner to the kids but more complicated when speaking to the viewers directly.

    I love the openness between you too. I’m pretty sure you’ve had Tim on (if I’m remembering correctly!) but it would be great to have him on again! With the both of you obviously. I feel like all the personal shit would go in a whole other direction!

    Haha, this was me 11y ago :) my family is rather prudish but my boyfriend’s mom is open about everything! It was quite the shock but it helped me lighten up a lot and be more comfortable with myself and others.

    There's a guy named Ikenna on TH-cam who is a polygot. He makes videos on tips and how tos on learning a different language. I don't remember all the languages he speaks, but I think some are Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, and Spanish. I need to go back to learning Spanish. The next languages I want to be fluent in are Korean, Italian, French. Maybe Japanese and Chinese, but the first 4 are the ones i want to focus on first.

    • @gabriella8141
      @gabriella8141 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vincisomething once you learn Spanish, Italian and French will come so much easier. And even the Japanese pronunciation is similar to Spanish. For that reason, it was easier for me to learn Japanese and French. Good luck with all your endeavors!!

    6:00 that's so interesting. I speak 4 languages fluently including french. I was fluent in hassania, an arabic dialect, and I read and write in Spanish and korean. I understand Spanish a bit, some korean and maybe 1% Japanese. I only know the basic greetings in Japanese. Manderin and Cantonese I'm having a hard time memorizing even just the basic greetings.

    I was looking into the language levels Joe was referring to and I found this in case anyone else is interested: www.mustgo.com/worldlanguages/language-difficulty/
    What do you think makes up the fluency status of a language speaker? I'm Thai and can speak/read/write a good amount of it but I don't declare myself as fluent as fluency to me means you can drop me in the middle of a school and I'll be able to understand everything that goes on.

    The mother in law sounds great. I would love my SO’s mom to be like that. I wouldn’t want a prudish snooty mother in law who is overbearing all the time. It’s too much pressure and exhausting after while having to put up a front.

    On the flip side, my mom is japanese and spoke to me in japanese and could completely understnad her, but maybe i was 2-3ish she stopped. I'm adopted from China when i was less than a year. She told me at first she thought i would get confused speaking later on. But then years later she tokd me it was symbolic. The Asian countries hate each other and always shot is going down between them, and at some point japan tried to take over china. So symbolically it was her as japanese trying to push her japanese on me, chinese. Now, im not bilingual and it's super hard for me to learn languages since my mind has a hard time with that type of learning.

    About the Liz situation, I kind of can relate. I enjoy you guys and your humor and it makes laugh, but I get flustered very easily. I am this way with your humor and irl so I think in the moment I would be rather embarrassed but maybe the next day I would be more positive about it.

    I'm an American girl working hard to learn Japanese lmao.I'd be lying if I said I didn't start learning through anime when I was like 10 but then I took the more educational routine like flash cards, CDs and i even took classes in college. Speaking it is alot easier than writing it but it's still so fucking hard.

    I've seen MILs where they talk shit about their daughter in law, if the DIL does decide to negotiate things. However, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I hear it enough where it seems so toxic of the MIL to keep doing so, and it makes me not want to be a DIL. I understand the judgment, but I like to think my parents & my bf's parents should trust us enough to find someone that is good for us. Like if they see it that we don't fit, then I'll understand, but it has to do with their standards not being met.
