With an early start, misty and 6 or 7 degrees it felt perfect for a few pike. Sadly that wasn’t the case and a few hours of graft on the lures produced one jack and a few missed fish.
I was down that section couple weeks back, had one Barbel out and was left scratching my head wondering how a guy was going to get his mobility scooter back up to the carpark after a right downpour. I asked him if he was alright and he said he was fine, so I left him too it 🤷♂ There is a couple pegs i'd be interested to try for Pike back up towards the stack, but it deep water 15ft maybe... Least you had one out in the end, but we Pike anglers always appreciate the show regardless of if we catch um. Will be waiting on the next upload from Black Country Pigeon Rescuer... erm Piker 🎣🎣🎣😁😁😁
Yes, I met him the other night. We did some night bailiff work and thought the same. It’s not exactly a monster truck 😂. He was out with another bailiff when we arrived. Towards the stack? There’s deep water at the top end after the island and opposite the bottom end of Quatt. I might try a barbel session Friday and just leave off the pike for a bit
Fantastic video Steve you are the jig Fly guru so no need for anyone to comment on what went wrong as you already no it’s just one of them angling moments I’ve found using a stiffer rod but not as much fun tbh so perseverance is the key Luckily Hornets aren’t as aggressive as wasps and a great spectacle of nature to see thanks for that Pigeons taste great in a pie 🥧 😂👍🏼🎣🍻🤘🏽🎸
😂😂 a bird I’ve never tried, however the old couple in there 80’s chasing the bird were mortified and made me promise to look after it 😂. I don’t know enough about hornets to not worry what they might do. They were often communicating with each other at the opening to the nest. I imagine if one got hurt it would signal the others? I didn’t fancy upsetting the big buggers 😂
Cheers James, yeah I’m not one for survival of the fittest if it can be saved. My daughter did indeed feed it a watered. I released it over stack pool kiddy today.
What type of fly is that? The Dobb daddy thing or what? What's the brand and weight of it? Hoping it is available in Sweden, don't see much of these flies here on a normal spinning rod.
Hiya, there’s no brand as they are tied by individuals rather than a manufacturer. They are called a jig fly. Mine are usually 7/0 or 10/0, 5-8g for light short distance work and 10 or 12g for deeper or faster work
Snagged Bro sell jig fly's, link to there website is on their youtube channel. Sorry Steve but i know you won't mind as they are good friend's of your's : )
@baldvale5418 yeah no worries, their link is www.snaggedbro.com/shop?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaZID5x7TthQTztITEh1sbBSrtIhlX9oukAMbdJjAU4xT5rmOO4rLWFhlNI_aem_wBH29C6JfCsktwCb6gCD5g
I tried those fly rigs and loved them but I did have the same problem of fish getting off. So I attached a twin hook stinger onto the main single hook and success rate improved massively.
I did the same with the first jig flies I used. But started tying my own, 6/0 I think on a 7g jig head. Making sure that the hook is well clear of the body. Hook ups same as with a stinger but fewer hooks to mess about with. Using a stiff rod helps too, both with the action of the fly and setting the hook. Imho.
@leftmono1016 I totally get the stiffer rod to help set the hook. I don’t normally have an issue to be fair. I use 5-8g for the canal or slow shallow river work or 10-12g for deeper and faster water.
@@BlackCountryPiker - exactly, so much easier to remove a single barbless hook! To be honest, the main reason for me using a stiff rod is that I’ve got that, plus a very light lure rod, and I’m too tight to buy something in between!

Nice to see you posting regularly again. Really need to get myself a rive pike this year, I only ever stay on the canals
Cheers, to be fair canals are great and if you manage any double you are doing well. But, a river could hold that one beast! lol
Cracking vid matey! Lovely pike caught 🎣🎣
Thank you 👍

Cheers Charlie 👍 a place I wish I could get to in the colder months
On that stretch pike bites depends on them mood and they can be very moody 😅 but always worth to try 👌🎣 good session 🐟
Very true 😂 thank you 👍
I used to tie Pike flies with circle hooks. Had no problems with hook ups.
Fair play, there was no issue with the lure I had just my own error 😂
In a bit Steve , fair play with the pigeon I would of done the same , great to see u back

I thought I was watching sean from snaggedbro for a minute 😅😅😅

Hi the path to the right section is a danger to walk in the damp. Fish this section regularly. Good barble waters.
You’re not wrong, slippy as buggery in the wet
Not a blanker thank God. 😂😂😂😂.
😂😂 it was a frustratingly hard session

@@leftmono1016some of my other older jigflies had a stinger and very effective. I prefer to minimise the hardware for easier removal.
