    Watching Chris Thile play makes me completely understand the mythologies of gods and divine muses of music. He plays mandolin like a man possessed and I absolutely envy him for it.

    This is what I imagine a performance by Kvothe from the Name of The Wind would be like...even to the point of bringing the audience from tears to joy in a matter of seconds. Pure genius.

    I've been coming back to this video for years. It was genius to transition from Another New World into the Bach partita. It really helps soften the edge from such a painful song. The former makes the latter more beautiful and emotive.

    I have to say, I like this version much better than Josh's. I'm sure that most wouldn't agree, but Chris's timing, voice and overall telling of the poem is better. I will give Josh props for coming up with a deep side story to Poe's poem. Although, with Poe, he made it more vague until the very end that Annabel Lee was a ship and not a woman. Great song writing by Josh and excellent performances by both!

    • @thescowlingschnauzer
      @thescowlingschnauzer 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Josh Ritter's track is one entity, Punch Brothers performing the song is another entity, and Chris Thile performing this song solo and throwing in Bach is an entity unto itself as well.

    • @thescowlingschnauzer
      @thescowlingschnauzer 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** There are covers are just a lesser version of the same entity, like the Counting Crows cover of Big Yellow Taxi. Then there are covers that overshadow the original, an enhancement of the original entity, like Blue Suede Shoes by Carl Perkins and the cover by Elvis Presley. Then there are covers that are strong but the original is also strong enough to coexist with it, two separate but equally worthy entities, like Hurt by Nine Inch Nails and the cover by Johnny Cash or Crying by Roy Orbison and the cover by KD Lang. More words to impress you. Don't forget to comment on my knowledge of musicology as well as my vocabulary.

    • @thescowlingschnauzer
      @thescowlingschnauzer 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** You're welcome. Thank you for once again using more words than my original post to explain how my original post could be shorter. I'm sure fans of Chris Thile, Josh Ritter, mandolin, Bach, or any of the other elements of this video feel much enlightened by your contribution.

    • @thescowlingschnauzer
      @thescowlingschnauzer 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      ***** Yes, Chris Thile fans are indeed "hear" because we know more about music than the average Joe. Perhaps you could say something about Chris Thile's music. Based on your previous comments I'm expecting wordy oversimplifications and unrequested assessments of intelligence, but hope springs eternal.
