I’ll be starting my PT course soon and I can’t wait! I recently started posting some fitness + mindset stuff online but since I’m not qualified I’m hesitant to give advice. I see it as a way to get used to putting myself out there because I know I’ll need to use social media to get clients eventually.
So glad to be hearing all of these ideas and "go for it" advice. I'm starting full time work as both administrative staff and a 1-on-1 trainer in a community center in a few weeks. Super nervous, but also super stoked to just meet people, connect, and do the homework as I go; servicing everyone I meet.
As a beginner personal trainer who has been training themselves for years, how do we communicate the mind muscle connection to clients who don’t “speak the lingo”?
Explain it to them like learning any other skill. Basically tell them to use their imagination and close their eyes for a second if safe. Tell them that the first time they do it, it will be a bit "crunchy" but like anything else, the more they do it the more they'll get the skill down :)
Start with simple excersices that isolate the muscle. If they get a little mad at not getting harder stuff, ask them," If you can't do this simple movement w good form, how would they do the much harder movement with weights ? "
One thing I tell people is to focus on getting a good flex in at the top portion of repetitions. This literally makes them focus on the muscles they are using because I've cued them to add an extra flex instead of just going through the motions.
I’m in week 2 of maps anabolic and was curious since I know my way around the gym and have been consistently lifting for three plus years if it was possible to substitute my smaller muscle groups for an exercise like farmers carries that would work all the ones listed for the latter part of that phase?
You definitely can and we recommend people to adjust the programs to be more specific for you. However, just know that you wouldn't be actively moving and targeting those smaller muscle groups through their full ROM other than from your compound lifts. But the farmer carries are a great exercise.
What are your thoughts on the ACE certification? Does any certification beat none, or are there certain ones that I should steer away from? I have a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and am hoping to start Physical Therapy school summer 2023, so I have experience within the field. Is personal training a practical job to pursue as a student?
I just got my EQF level 4 certificate, looking for a job in a big box gym atm and even though i'm licensed pt, i'm still confused about some aspects of fitness, but i guess it's because i lack experience. I love fitness, but i'm afraid i'm going to fail because in reallity i'm a really shy introverted person who has previously avoided socializing at all costs.
How are you doing now? I feel like im on a similar boat. im a bit introverted as well but fitness is my passion. I just dont have enough experience (trained as a pt in a small gym for 5 months) now going to a bigger gym. Id love to hear how you are doing now
@@shannattygains7100 Hi Shan. Long-story short i gave up. The pay where i'm from isn't really good and for many employers just having an EQF level 4 certificate isn't enough they wanted someone who has studied this profession in university which i haven't. Also corona played a big part in my decisions obviously. No happy ending for me. I wish you all the best, keep following your dreams and don't give up like i did. Take care!
Have you guys tried The Camp Transfornation center? It’s nation wide. Great place to get a introductory job as a personal trainer. You will have mentors too.

Oh and rehearse 👀👀 practice breaking it down and figure out what you will say to them before you get there 👌👌
