Hi Joy, either a BTE or RIC would work for him. As for which is better, a hearing provider can advise him on that, but likely both will be fine. The last couple of years of Mask-Wearing have shown an extra shortcoming of behind-the-ear types, especially if (like myself) you also wear glasses ... there is only so much room behind an ear. My behind-the-ear hearing aids are also completely incompatible with Crash Helmet use.
Hi, it won't really make a difference, though I'd recommend something with direct audio streaming so you can stream phone calls from your phone to your hearing aids.
It can be awkward, and the whole wearing-a-mask for Covid has really been a problem 'Room behind the Ear'-wise. Behind-the-ear is also an issue if you ever use a Crash Helmet.
