- So guys i was given this classic mini for free, it has been sat for almost 25 years outside and I'm wondering if I can get it to run and drive.
The body work is absolute rotten and not worth saving but if i can get it to run and drive surely it's worth something to someone for a re shell.
It was interesting to say the least

Lol. That was entertaining. Can’t believe you’ve never driven or worked on a mini. A-Series engine and minis is all we had to play with back in the day at college. Did make me laugh when you said “Oh it’s light” - yeah it’s because only 30% of body is still there 😂

Still worth the best part of a grand as a complete original tagged car for reshelling. There's place by me that builds as new Minis for clients from their own self built new shells - this sort of car is ideal for their rebuild stock. Runs sweet too - nice work! 👍👍

This is a 88/89 Mini city. Engine is a 998cc A+. I think the colour is nimbus grey. Interior trim is sawtooth fabric and vinyl in grey

Well done for getting that going. Clutch slave cylinders will always seize when not used for a while. Without doubt the rustiest Mini I have seen outside of a scrapyard.
Thank you mate 👍 appreciate that, my friend pinch said they get stuck but abit of squirt and some leverage managed to get it moving. It’s the worst I’ve seen for sure. Run really well considering it looks like it’s been dragged out of the sea.
I restored an old Mini, a lot of years ago. Originally it had a clubman front end but I fitted new inner wings, new front panel and outer wings, floor pans, rear panel and boot floor. That old Mini Clubman became a beautiful Mini 850. Later, I managed to get hold of a 1275 engine and fitted that ....

My neighbour took one out of a ditch that was just about being held together by strands of rust and completely rebuilt it! Inspirational to say the least, I'd love to find one myself sometime, very hard to find like everything else these days!

You could drop the two subframes out, weld them together with a few bits of box section in the middle as a space frame/roll cage, race seat and harness - she’s a off-road buggy!
If I had some land or a small field if definitely keep it for a laugh and the boy to learn in 👍
Yeah land would be nice, it’s too valuable around here though unfortunately. Any field will soon have a couple of hundred houses on it

Hey Nigel thank you mate 👍 yep carbs and points are slightly older than me but I’ve watched a fair few programs and I listen so had half an idea. Oh man pushing that mini made my legs go wobbly no camera footage of the stack I’m afraid 😂. I’m not greedy so whatever it sells for will do. My friend pinch is a big fan of minis and he absolutely loves a A series.

It can be fixed definitely,well put it this way you drove it and didn't fall through the floor also you can buy every panel for that car except the roof skin and it runs and drive well done nice freebie thanks sforza sharing 👍

Smiled the entire time, wish i had enough land to drive my MK1 Nova around for abit when i did a will it start and got it started after 26years of being off road abandoned only managed to reverse it on my garden once and cant forget the blue MK2 ASTRA behind the fence to the left at 47:17!

I had to laugh when you said "we'll try and tow start it" I had visions of you ending up dragging an A Series Engine on a subframe whist the rest of the shell went for a ball of chalk

To put the gear in reverse, you need to pull the lever up and put it in fourth gear.

I cant see the value in it. Ok the engine runs but sticking it into a new shell im not sure what that would be worth.
Hey bud sorry for the delay, when I first picked it up I thought the same as you but once running I did think the engine and gearbox was worth around £500 and it sold for just under that.
I’ve had a few ‘free’ minis.
They soon get very expensive.

A 52k good engine and gearbox has to be worth £500 I think, might be wrong, plus there’s lots of other little bits that might be valuable 🤷

@DTE TV oh I had kkh926p 1275 gt with a 1380 engine and single dcoe 40 weber a carbon 12 inch wheels with a mini Cooper s lcb headers and single welded muffler and was quick until started jumping 4th gear so could not see how fast it went.
Don't knock the rust off. You won't have much car left.

In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime!!!

@@YTDTETV He will drive no car at all because EU will only permit 20% of all people owning any vehicle they tell most people will have to use public transport, stay at home or use an e rental scooter or bike.
