I just watched this on my local PBS station. Brought back great memories of this area. My Aunt and cousin lived in Robbinsville and we've ridden the trains many times over the years. My uncle worked building the Fontana Dam . Beautiful land and people. Take both trains to experience all of the splendor and history of it. Great time of the year to be there. Happy Easter to all!

My husband and I used to ride the GSMR nighttime dinner train at least once a year. Several years they used the last locomotive from The Fugitive. We have since moved to Missouri, but I'd sure like to do it again. I'm sure the locomotive has long since been retired. I hope they've been able to restore it somehow. For a long time, The Fugitive has been one of their biggest attractions.

6:13 Tony Franklin was fireman on my cab ride on #1702 who gave me permission to put sand in the flues, initate the water injectors, keep an eye on the boiler pressre and water level, check down the tracks, sweep the cab floor and even do some bell ringing during our maneuver at the NOC. I did the $450 steam cab ride so I could get an extra two hours of boiler observation credit for my steam training at Hocking Valley Scenic Railway with our #3.

Isn't there a section of the railroad that has a 4% grade on it, likely, somewhere around Topton? (I read something the NS''s "Murphy Branch" in TRAINS Magazine way back then, where two engines were needed to pull a train only seven boxcars long.)

This one of the reazons why i hate removal of those salutes and blocking people form viewing shows like roots. History needs to lived and remembered. in fact i herd that the iedan's used in the movie Dances With Wolfs fellt more connected to who they where after doing that movie since they had to leran to live as they did in the time.

Is there a reason for setting apart the Tennessee and North Carolina sides? I mean, uhm... we have no love lost. . Why do you act so biased? A state line makes you thínk this way? That's the way your attitude comes off as.
