    The top question I have been asked is what hotel we stayed at. We didn't work with the hotel or anything we just found it on our own. Here is a link to it (affiliate link) - booking.stay22.com/californiathroughmylens/bAdUyFZV2k

    A few things: one, y’all are an adorable couple. I’m an avid outdoorsman, particularly hiking, and I love seeing a couple who both enjoy the outdoors.
    Also, great music! The War On Drugs are an excellent band!
    I once hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Virginia, which includes 70-80 miles in the Smoky’s. The AT section in the national park there is so stunningly beautiful, and can be pretty intense.
    As if my typing this, I’m only halfway through the video, so I may edit this comment; buuuuuut, if you didn’t hike up to Mt LeConte, then you totally missed out! It’s a killer hike, about 5.5 miles to the summit, climbing around 3,000’. The scenery both along the hike (particularly at the Alum Bluff Cave, and also as the trail skirts around a smaller mountain that juts up in the valley below, which is a peregrine falcon haven! Not only are they the fastest animals on earth, flying at over 200 mph while hunting, but they’re both huge and stunningly beautiful! The summit on Mt LeConte has amazing views, and, being a multi-peaked mountain (I forget how many), looking in multiple directions! If you’re a more hardcore hiker, you can hike the Boulevard Trail down to the Appalachian Trail, which is almost guaranteed to be mostly, if not entirely, isolated. Once it ends at the AT, bear left for just under 2-miles (I’m typing this from memory, so my mileage may be off) to Charlie’s Bunion, easily one of the best vistas in the park. Go on a weekday, and it shouldn’t be as swarming with more touristic hikers.
    Oh! And, y’all obviously entered the park from the western side, coming from Gatlinburg; but the eastern side has wild elk! Enter from Cherokee Native American reservation, and there are signs “warning” of potential elk crossing!

    • @country_flyboy
      @country_flyboy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Adventureswithbecky I would suggest Frozen Head park near Wartburg. It is absolutely beautiful, and there are several excellent camping sites along the trails. On the top of the mountain is a fire tower that you can climb up. On clear days, you can see all of Roane County (look for the two tall steamstacks, that's the Kingston TVA coal plant) and further south. There are a bunch of other mountain trails in Rockwood. On some of them, you can see as far as the Sequoyah nuclear plant next to Chattanooga.

    • @Adventureswithbecky
      @Adventureswithbecky 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@country_flyboy that sounds absolutely amazing!!! Do they charge for the sites on the trails or is it free primitive camping?

    • @country_flyboy
      @country_flyboy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Adventureswithbecky Camping at Frozen Head is $5 for a reservation fee, plus any additional rates that changes from time to time. I am not 100% sure if the campsites have opened back up, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are open. My personal favorite spot is near the top of the mountain near where the Panther branch and Old Mac trail meet. There is a boulder next to the campsite that is the perfect place to see a beautiful sunrise while eating breakfast.

  • @KayFabe87
    @KayFabe87 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    The entire Smoky Mountains region is beautiful and we love visiting at least every 2 years or so. Granted; Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg can be 'touristy', but they are fun interludes between days of hiking and exploring the overall region. I prefer Gatlinburg to PF, but both can be fun. Looking forward to going back in the fall. If you visit the GSMNP and are staying on the North Carolina side of the mountains, I highly recommend dining at the Pisgah Inn restaurant on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Canton, NC. The panoramic views from the restaurant are spectacular and the food is great. They don't take reservations so you have to get there a few hours in advance in order to put your name on the waiting list at the restaurant's front desk. Well worth it.

    I live in Southeast Louisiana, Covington, extremely humid here. I have a nine-year-old boy and we love the Smokies. We try to go once a year, he loves to hike so we've done most of the trails. This video was really well done. There is a good reason why the place is the most visited national park, it is breathtaking. We have hiked in summer and in winter and every single time I'm taken back by the beauty you find there. My son says he rather go to the smokies than Disney World.

We went in June once and, well, never again...way too hot and we live in TN (LOL). Thanksgiving in Gatlinburg is also wonderful as the Christmas decorations are typically up and they're spectacular. Beautiful piece of God's country!!! (And Cades Cove is a definite YES), but go early enough because once it is dark it is DARRRKKKKK. We stopped at landmarks and explored by flashlight! 3 years ago my mother and I made a trip to see her sister, and on the way home we made a quick stop in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. The weather could not have been less cooperative for our trip to Clingman's Dome. While I made my way through the 1 mile round trip, you couldn't see more than 15-30 feet ahead of you. Welcome to the Smokey Mountains. I remember the combination of being a cloud, the elevation, and of course the grade of the path being difficult for many to hike. I met several people telling me to turn around because the hike was to hard. It was a great day.

    Hi guys, I am from Florida. I love smokey mountains and blue ridge parkway. Been there a few time over different seasons. I have travelled the entire length of Blue Ridge mountains. Kudos to you for filming your trip and naration. Generally, I don't do trails as I am disabled . So, your video filled me the void of seeing some of the remote places, falls and vistas. Your video is high quality and narative is crisp and to the point. Footages are stable. What was your gear. How long did it take to edit and what program did you use? lovely and keep it up. You are a well planned traveller for sure. Cheers.
