McMaster student here! Westdale is absolutely the most beautiful neighborhood in Hamilton, it’s definitely my favourite, and even some movies and tv shows like to film there. I just wish it had a streetcar line down the middle instead of busses, not that the busses don’t come frequently
An interesting neighbourhood. Last year, I did an extensive walk around Hamilton, checking out the "feeling" of various parts of town, but when I hit a wall of freeways at the west end, I didn't go any further. If I had been a little more persistent, I would have found Westdale. The important thing for me is to find neighbourhoods that are successful and lively, but not dominated by rich people. It's easy for everyone to live nicely if everyone has tons of money to spend, and the political power to keep out the "riff raff." What urban planners should be trying to achieve is neighbourhoods where everyone can live safely and with reasonable amenities at every income level. This is not a fantasy. It occurs some places, and and can be made the norm by public policy, if we choose to.
Westdale is full of interesting shops, restaurants, cafes, and critically, STILL HAS QUIET 1-LANE STREETS. It is a testament to the rest of Hamilton and to Canada that you don't need to accommodate a lot of cars or parking to have lively economic activity. Edit: Source - I live here.
It seems like quite a beauty, I’d love to do a video with myself at the actual neighborhood some day, it’s a great example of an urban neighborhood for a mid-size city that doesn’t rely on urban sprawl/ the classic NA neighborhood!

Hamilton does have a pretty dense population for 500k, maybe it would be a possible system! Do you know if there are any talks in regards to a system?

I didn’t know Hamilton had nice neighbourhood. Driving by it on the QEW, I always roll my windows up because of the smell.
