    This is honestly one of the hardest things to get right for me, so that amplifies how much work remains on my hand synchronization, thanks Jon, and this pesky foot gets out of sorts with the one when the accent is not on the one! I liken it to what piano players must go through when they separate their left and right hands...

    • @johannalvarsson9299
      @johannalvarsson9299 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Separating your hands mechanically on the piano is honestly not that hard. The problem with your foot is that your brain needs to learn not to interpret an accent automatically as a strong beat, something that we have usually conditioned it to do for a very long time.

    • @JonBjork
      @JonBjork  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The good thing about that issue is that you can work on it anywhere. Just use your hands, counting and keeping your foot on the downbeat at all times. Once you get the feel without the guitar you'll find that it works much better.

      Anyone who tells you that you'll become a virtuoso in 3 easy steps I'd probably not listen to👀
      With that said, the better quality practice techniques the more you'll get out of your practice time and will end up improving faster.

    Jon, You have hit the nail on the head w/ this video. As you apply, it creeps into what you already know, and benefits your playing. But, as you state, you have to put in the work.

    Your posture and fretting hand technique is pretty on-point. Ever considered doing a video about those topics, and ergonomics? I know I had to change my technique after breaking my wrist/elbow and losing some of my range of motion.

    Nice for beginners but I never found synchronizing the hard part, the hard part is getting the right hand up to speed and making string changes while maintaining that speed. Troy Grady helped a ton with that, but the part I still have a hard time with is the raw speed of the right hand, sure I can blast out a scale run but I can't sustain the picking through more than a few seconds. After a few seconds, my elbow tries to get involved to keep the right hand speed going and it's a bit of a hit & miss. It's funny though, I show people videos of my picking and their like, "damn, you really got it down", like, yeah, maybe for about 6 seconds of all out speed in my wrist.

    • @JonBjork
      @JonBjork  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm an eternal beginner since I'm definitely using this on pretty much a daily basis:D
      One good test to see if you still need to work on sync as well (it's never an either or in my experience) is to see if you can sync up your hand while picking as fast as you can on a single string. If you can't do that there's still work to do in the sync department as well.
