Thanatophobia, by textbook definition means "the fear of death". The song itself, however is less about the fear of death and more about fear itself. It's about experiencing, embracing, and most of all, overcoming that feeling of terror and emptiness in the pit of your chest. Overcoming that feeling of dread when you think about or experience that one thing that you fear above all else.
