And this is where I find Bu Yi hypocritical. He feels hurt for not being trusted and told about the problems Shaoshang faced. But he did not share his secret and abandoned her to avoid burdening her. It is true BuYi protected her from his crimes. But that is not what NiaoNiao wanted she did not want to be left behind.
Yes exactly ! He wanted to protect her but he neglected to consider her feelings. He is the person who understands her the most yet at the most crucial time he failed to know what she wanted. That 5 year gap was necessary for him to learn from his mistakes.
They are so similar in this aspect. Their flaws are even the same: stubborn and self-decisive. As for LBY, as a guy, he will always want his girl to count on him. He is very protective of her. But the reason he’s hiding his true identity from her is not because he didnt trust her but he doesn’t feel that she needs to learn it. He really feels that she is scared of him and he doesn’t want to make her worried even more. Men dont like telling their problem, especially if the problem can danger their loved one. I believe once he found the enough evidences to avenge Hou family, he would tell SS all the truths.
Unfortunately that day had never came and he found himself stuck when his enemy Ling Yi killed all witnesses. The only way to make LY pay for his crime is killing him off and then, LBY will be punished accordingly. He is willing to die and to let SS hates him so she will eventually get over him and move on, marry someone else and has a normal peaceful life.

Totally agree! He can say these words to Niao Niao in this episode and then do the opposite when it was most important and thus betrayed Niao Niao's trust in him. I know he was just trying to protect her too but for Niao Niao, when she gives her love & loyalty, she means it and will go through thick & thin for the ones she cares for. For him to abandon her was the ultimate betrayal in her mind.
Yup. The thing he was most attracted to was different, she was strong, smart and cunning. Yet he is constantly trying to change her. Yet he says he isn't.
i really loved consort yeu 's character. At first I was scared that maybe she is cunning or scheming. but she was the best. she was honest and contented . her son also gave me the same Energy but turns out to be just like his mother
Interesting how Shaoshang is just like her in a way, and she becomes more of herself by the empress just like how Yue sees the empress as her older sister.
I loved this scene, at this point they need to understand that communication and trust each other is the key to be a successful couple, but that's teamwork that they will understand by making mistakes.

Love how the only one who wasn't shocked by Fifth Princess behavior was Heng Yue 😃 . She is very observant and knows what is going on especially with Miss Luo 😅
She catches so much but unfortunately couldn't rein in her daughter. She knew 3rd Princess was lying about how she got her money but just told her not to embarrass the family. All of the royal parents waited until others were present and there was a big scene before they handled their children.

The exchange at 4:08 between Consort Yue and Lady Luo followed by Consort Yue's remark about the palace being more lively while looking at LBY was an interesting moment. I wonder if she is trying to warn LBY about something or was she just being plain sarcastic.
LBY's look at 4:52 was so sad because he told Shaoshang she can do what she sees fit and he would protect her, at the very first test he could not protect her so he was more disappointed at himself besides the fact that Shaoshang did not share her troubles and thoughts with him.
I feel that Consort Yue sees people for who they are, she just lets them show there colors first. She knows Lady Luo has feelings for LBY and wouldn't mind if her maid ruined CSS reputation due to her jealousy.
LBY looks like that because he know how much danger she was in and is upset he didn't get a chance to protect her. He's also hiding himself from CSS so he needs to cool it lol.

I guess you can ordinarily do that but LB's point was that the people she had run ins with were not ordinary people and her actions may have national consequences she might not be aware of. Good thing the Emperor and his two queens are level headed and not power hungry folks or else a lot of innocent folks would have been swept up in a retribution spree.
We're all looking at this from a 21st century viewpoint. Back then, women were cosseted, and it was expected that men had to protect them, because we're supposedly "weaker." Women today share Shaoshang's view that we are perfectly capable of taking care of ourselves. But back then, her ideas would have been totally radical, since women were "dainty, hot-house flowers." So, I understand where he's coming from. Plus, if it had been any other imperial parents and she had done that to their little princess, she - and her entire family - would have been put to death. She was just lucky that these royal parents are reasonable people.

I guess the question would be if everyone acted independently of one another would it bring unity or more divisions, what would be the point of being in a partnership if you work separately from one another, but then again I have seen how people bent on revenge can affect not just themselves but so many others in the process
The only reason a lady (SS) shouldn't revenge a princess is because it can cause the execution of her entire clan. Is revenge worth having your entire family killed or in prisoned? If the emperor and empress weren't so caring about SS, there could have been very bad consequences for her actions. BuYi is always trying to keep her safe, but she still doesn't seem the grasp the way the Palace is run.
Love the Emperor in this drama, he played this part wonderfully!
I feel like LBY is being too harsh on her. They have known each other in what i guess to be less than 3 months. Changing something she's used to doing which is defending herself for 15 years can't be done in 3 months. Also she's right to be scared of him. He's a general who actually has power in court and in the palace, why wouldn't she. I know he's trying to be patient but again it won't be that easy
And yet he's not doing what he said. He demanded her to trust him, but not the other way around. The separation scene done perfectly and Saoshang felt betrayal is justified.
@@quickcooking2795 exactly!!! He demanded that she trusts him even though they've been together for a short time, which is impossible. I know he does a lot of things for her but even though she appreciated them, she didn't ask for it.
in hindsight, it's terribly hypocritical of him to expect her to share everything with him even before she does it, just because "husband and wife are one", while he's plotting a new world order in the shadows and never telling her squat. But beside that, even without any of that ever happening, what she did here was retaking power after she'd been made to feel helpless and in danger for her life. She's got trauma since childhood adding to that, but anyone, just anyone, being thrown into a drowning environment by a crowd of bullies would feel the need to put them down with his/her own hands, to get some sort of revenge, to one-up them. That's not something you can get from a boyfriend, that's got to come from you, you need to put yourself back on the saddle and show them you're not scared. He wants to take that away from her? No, man, that's wrong.
I agree , but his personality is to protect the people he love , he already couldn’t protect his family , which is a constant dark cloud over him , so he definitely wants to protect his women . I agree with your statement but I understood why he reacted like that .

I understand both LBY and SS’s point of view. Because of this lovely couple working separately, the bullies got a double revenge which they deserve. Imagine if they work together to design a revenge, that would be even scarier 😂

No- him murdering all the innocent servants was NOT the evil princess getting what she deserved. We already know from her tirade at the start that she considers the lives of non royal people to be worthless so killing then did not teach her anything. He just ruined those people and their families’ lives for nothing.

🌸 WOW What a scene!!! The Empress looks like she’s going to have a heart attack and the Emperor can barely speak over their shock from the 5th princess’s attitude towards others. She even dares to tell LBY that she’s not afraid of him after he finds out that she had snakes released and tried to kill Shaoshang. She should have shut up right then and there! 😳😱 😱😱😱
Poor LBY doesn’t yet fully understand how Shaoshang feels about things. He expects her to totally rely on him but Shaoshang’s never had anyone else to rely on before and is used to handling things herself.
The fifth princess is so unbelievably dumb…she literally revealed all her crimes, and how she feels about consort Yue and the people below her comparing them to ants in front of the emperor and the empress…I guess she never had to care about watching her mouth, but I'm still amazed at how dumb she is.

First time when I watched the drama I though LBY was right but now after watching the whole drama I can't help but think that LBY was hypocritical. He also didn't confide in CSS about everything. Maybe he did that to protect her, maybe he did that because he didn't want to burden her , whatever the reason he should have told her.

LBY when he questioned her if she had him hug her that night because you were bullied. I am thinking...Of course she did. 1st clue sobbing uncontrollably. 2nd I'm missing home. 3rd I ask you to teach me what to do if I am bullied, which you responsed who dares to bully you if I am here. 4th what if you aren't. 5th clue short demonstration of being pushed from behind. 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩Yes. He gave her opportunities to tell him more, but she clearly had the Empress's birthday in her mind and she was all about protecting the Empress on her day. SS asked him to play as part of the promise he made to her while they were gazing into each other's eyes that night. SS was probably rightly afraid and justified on how he might react if she completely told him before the birthday banquet considering what he did do afterwards. SS had witnessed how he handled the situation at the Lou's residence being accused of flirting and seducing LBY. And she waited to take any action herself till the following day.

exactly! Shocked my ass, he was just being unreasonable here. It's true that she's very independent and that she doesn't trust anyone, and that's something that is not very healthy in a relationship, but you don't just brush trauma off like it's some sort of whim on her part, by complaining and making her feel guilty about it. It doesn't work like that. And it's not fair, either.
He's just being a guy. They always think that only they can "fix" things. Plus, he's scared for her safety. Like he says, "What if they want to kill you the next time?" (Which the B of a 5th Princess has threatened to do). Still, I totally get Shaosheng. I was bullied horribly when I was growing up. As much as my family felt that they could "protect" me, the truth was - like Shaosheng - the bullying was done when I was alone. That's how bullies work - since they're cowards. So, like her, I had to learn how to protect myself. He had witnessed how the 3rd and 5th Princesses bullied her earlier, so it shouldn't have come as some big shock to him that their nastiness continued. But - like a lot of guys - I think what bothered him the most is that he hadn't protected her. He grew up in the palace and was bullied himself, so he understood the dangers. That's why he kept stressing to her that she should come to him with her problems. The problem with that is, 1) no one likes a snitch (I learned that from experience), even when what they say is the truth. 2) These Bs were imperial daughters, safe in the knowledge that they had their parents to protect them, while Shaosheng was the unloved daughter of a minor noble. (She could thank her mother for that!) 3) As a "nobody," who's going to take her word for any of the abuse. The 5th Princess made it perfectly clear to her little friends, after they pushed her into the lake, that it was her word against that of an imperial Princess - and the emperor's and empress's favorite child at that. (Being the "baby" in a family has its perks). So Shaosheng was between a rock and a hard place. This is a 15-year-old kid who never had anyone in her corner, other than her maid. So, believing that anyone would take her side is beyond her realm of experience. I actually had people who loved me and would have helped me, but again, bullies work in secret.
@@patriciaking7150 I agree with everything you wrote. And his argument, "What if they try to kill you next time" is so wrong. First, they very nearly tried to kill her already, pushing someone who can't swim into a murky lake and then throwing rocks at them can go horribly wrong by itself. Secondly, just like this time, "next time" he may very well not be there, it's not like he and Shaoshang live attached to the hip, so she needs to be able to protect herself and assert her independent personality in front of the bullies.
Thirdly, excuse me, but you're the one who pulled her into this life, so don't act now like you gotta do everything your way and everything will be all right, 'cause it already isn't. And it's not about you, sir, it's about her, so take your manly overprotectiveness and shove it up the gong.

Really made me angry when he was telling her that she didn't trust him because you know while she didn't directly tell him about the bullying still shown her vulnerability by crying around him it doesn't show she trusts him I don't know what will
I just finished this drama and after thinking about it I found his behaviour here incredibly hypocritical. He wanted her to Trust him while he never actually trusted her. He also used his engagement to her as a cover for his activities I think he even admits to it. Not only did he not trust her he also used her all the while saying that he loved her. He even admitted that right from the very beginning that he plan to abandon her even knowing that she would never forgive him. Being in a relationship is a two-way street.
He didnt plan to abandon her from the start, he started thinking that possibility when he questioned her about getting revenge but it will hurt your beloved one. And she said you will have to choose what is more important, revenge or love. That was when the possibility of abandoning her came into play. But he did use her as an excuse for his things to happen from the get go, even if he didnt plan it that way, he took every opportunity
LBY's concern about CSS safety is legitimate and understandable. He's been fighting enemies all his life to protect his loved ones as he knows full well he doesn't want to lose another esp. the woman that he intends to marry. I don't blame him for not telling CSS the truth because in the end, she could hinder his plan to finally kill everyone involved in decimating his family and people.

I love Concubine Yue - she sees right through Yitong! As for the 5th Princess...she's nothing but trash pretending to be a high brow Princess. For her to make such a hideous statement about general people's lives meaning nothing is beyond outrageous! She's so far up her royal ass that she thinks everyone else is so beneath her. Although she got what she deserved from Ling Buyi, I can't help but feel sorry for the her aides that took the brunt of her punishment. I have no idea how someone like 5th Princess could turn out the way she did, even if she was spoiled, since the Empress was such a gentle soul.
It is because her aides were the one indulging her and her ego. Also, killing her aides were not only to teach her a lesson but to humiliate Marquis Yue.

Man it’s like the 5th daughter is the devils daughter thinking because she’s higher birth that she could murder and torture a commoner. For one to possess such evil and live miserably and getting a kick out of someone’s pain and suffering is a “psychopath”. The King and queen treats Shaosheng as their own daughter better than her one biological parents. The parents should of slap the 5th princess mouth but all they did is yelled at her that’s why she got away with it and almost took shaoshang’s life

It was the only thing I basically watched besides TH-cam and I love how cheap it is for standard I love period pieces. I never know what to call these shows so I always call them Asian. Pieces that what we call them what’s the actual name form?
