One of the things I love about this drama is that it's one of the few where the Empress and concubines actually get along and don't scheme behind each other's backs. It was very refreshing to see rather than the usual. Plus, the emperor's character is just so good. This whole drama was amazing. Loved it from start to finish.
Not the Emperor setting up all these people just to see how Shaosang feels about Ling BuYi, dude was creating his own dramas and getting his OTPs together. 🤣🤣🤣
You have to give the Emperor credit for being the brilliant architect of this romance. Though his wives are not impressed as much as he wants

I never love the king in historical drama (except if it is the ML), but this king is different, hilarious, caring, kind, fair, the type king that we are all want. And all the story flow smoothly because of every little things the king did for ling buyi, and he can get the love of his life partly because of king's help hehe i love this king so so much, I definitely will rewatch this drama again ❤

Yes but, he also indirectly pushed lingbuyi towards extreme revenge measures because he kept giving light punishments to the evildoers. But yes I agree this emperor is very special amongst most other emperor in c drama

The way she looks at the Emperor when he is about to drink something....too funny. She is like "What the hell! How can you be drinking so casually at a time like this?". This actress says so much with her facial expressions. A true delight to watch her perform. This entire scene when first learning about the punishment and now . She is so talented. Both of these young leads are, wish them both continue success in their careers and personal lives

I think all Cdrama lovers will agree to the fact this Emperor is Dope. I mean I haven't watched ALL/ EVERY Chinese historical drama but I seen enough to say this Emperor really is one of the best if not the best. And to think that LBY is not even his biological son!!? Woah!😲.. I wish all Emperors were like him.
LBY isn't his Bio son but definitely his favorite. To be fair most of his other kids suck. He has like ONE other good son and that's it. Though it may be because he plays well with LBY. 🤣

From the talk with the Empress to the Emperor being left alone at the wall, they had me in my emotions of elation, sadness, anger, and humor. But by the end I was full of resignation of the pending breakup. This whole sequence made me fully accept, empathize, and even agree with her state of unforgiveness towards him. They all coaxed, tricked, and berated her into dismantling her wall only for him to abandon her out of his sense of loving protection. I get it but it only served in falsifying his claim of oneness in all things no matter what. Love him forever but there's a grudge! This dang scene, now I'm crying. Great work to them all!
Yeees. When the breakup happened, people called her stubborn, cold etc., he was 100% wrong (not even taking into account how many chances she gave him). She only wanted what he DRAGGED out of her; she understood everything else he did.
@@MarcustheWu Right! I guess some just don't understand what happens when the person you finally let your guard down for does something to make you regret letting them in. It's not like she stopped loving him, she needed time lay down ALL her past hurts, process his actions, and forgive him for hiding everything and using her to some extent.
Every time she asked him if he had anything to tell, I felt the hurt because it just goes back to him berating her for not confiding in him when she was in trouble. I felt it!!!!

I could never accept him after this. He made a complete fool of her here and at the tower, when he held her off the roof and reopened his wound. He put all this false guilt on her and all the while she sensed there was something not quite at peace with him and he just gaslighted her at every turn.
I preferred her with Luo Yao, maybe if they had married that family tragedy wouldn't have happened but I know she and Yao made each other happier and stronger and free.
@@ladytokoni Forgiveness and acceptance is a long journey most are unwilling to take, understandable so. I know the process from both sides so I'm looking at it through those lenses I guess. My grudge had stemmed from the way he went about his actions and bringing her in before he settled his revenge. However, having been raised by someone with her character and similar issue I would a 100 times over pick him for her. They have and will become better, stronger, and wiser individuals because of each other's presence. They were written to be a "power couple" in that world since independently they are such powerhouses. In any other household she would have had to put up with too many injustices. That's the real reason the tragedies happen in both families in the end. With him she answers to no one but him and herself, okay maybe the emperor and empress sometimes 🤣😉❤.
That's what she was saying when she asked the Emperor to call off the engagement. He made her depend on and fully trust him, and he didn't treat her the same. She told him she wouldn't act on her own anymore, but that's what he did. A comment on another video explained it by saying their view of love was different. He wanted to protect her, and she didn't care what happened as long as they were together because of her abandonment issues. Her personality made her suited to be an outcast, and she would've welcomed being banished with him. He didn't really understand until the scene when she was hurt he said he didn't regret it. They said that in the novel it took several guards and the Emperor himself to keep LBY from going after CSS once he realized she would've been gone into exile with him. It's heartbreaking. He understood her so well but didn't get that last piece of the puzzle until she gave up on him (for then at least).

It goes from sad (with Zisheng and Shaoshang) to hilarious with the Emperor carrying the weight with his attitude of watching a play, when the camera shifts. The commentary from the women and the Emperor's reaction just takes it from fantastic to flipping tables awesome!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Most times that I’ve seen the emperors/kings, they’d be super serious, but I love this king! He’s so extra in everything he does! LOL!! 😂😂😂 He needs more scrolls to write, he has too much time on his hands.
The only one not impressed with the Emperor's tactics was the Empress. It was so heartbreaking to see him getting beat like that 😞

The strength she used to push aside grown men, and grown men with beating sticks really shows the power of her love. That was just as powerful for me as the visual of the blood he had from the strikes.
She was using strength but I also think they were told that she was allowed to push through because you see the Emperor sending word that she can get through certain levels.
She's the only one can criticize the emperor and told to prince to shut up 🤣🤣

Yup. They did not have Gao Han/Lao K (3rd prince) have anything to do with Sun Kai/Xiao Pang, one of ZiSheng’s 2 lieutenants. But they remain capable with Sun Kai providing lighter moments from time to time.
At any rate, the entire cast needs to be commended. Special mention the emperor.
What a King! If not for him, this story is not that exciting as for the love birds. This drama is highly recommended.

This was the most beautiful series i ever watched. These busterds made me cry many times, the only ting that i didn't understand, why they brooked up and reason. I watched all of it in few days, from the the day before noon till yesterday 8,37 am none stop watched it to end, and now re watching again.. My goodness, i loved the niao niao and the general chen, general Hou and king and the queen
SS and LBY, broke up because while she agreed and trusted him, in the end he didn't trust her enough to tell the truth of his origin and reason for vengeance and abandoned her to live, alone. The reason are given in the dialog where she hugs him 6:03

He is focused on keeping SS safe, which is tbh amazing bcz SS is only 15-16 here. Her schemes to get personal revenge might one day actually catch the attention of truly nefarious people who can deal out fatal harm.
But in order to get HER to trust him to help her... He forgot that he promised to treat her as equal.
all she wanted was for him to share a part of him... to reciprocate the same of what he asked here.
This was a VERY GOOD DRAMA.
@@Bora_Eternal as borrowed from Saoshang pov, I understand his reason not to bring her into his final revenge act. But judging from the time before he had rampage, he already decided not to marry Saoshang and just die. It feels like the betrayal for Saoshang (and me as viewer) cause he should have known better how Saoshang feel about being abandoned, and it's definitely worst than just not being open about his true identity.
I wonder when exactly he decided to let everything go. It's frustrating to see him chased Saoshang and planned married and all where he already had plan in mind to die after his revenge done. It doesn't seem fair to Saoshang.
Anyway, I also like the 3rd prince. The moment he appeared, I noticed him to be some important role. And how I love when he and Saoshang bantered in front of The King in the scene where Saoshang tried to defend Zisheng after censorate case.too bad there's not much plot line for his story to become crown prince. And I don't mind if there will be love triangle between three of them 😁.
In addition, I am glad they change post 5 years plot not to be the same as novel. Novel ending doesn't seem match with whole drama narratives.

we need to keep in mind that this is just a 21 year old lad, although exceptional and meritorious but still a YA.
imagine being that age and I can understand the spiralling.
tbh, it is also one of the season why this drama resonated with me... every time SS or HBY did something that completely disregarded them factoring in their partner's feelings I wAs reminded what it felt like to be that age.
The Director and writers also showed us the tremendous maturity of both the leads as they learnt to navigate their feeling and not just say it.
the unravelling was something that you red but watching it happen was AMAZING!!!
