Bob Banas (rip) owns and dominates the centre stage in this dance video. He moves effortlessly with energy that is not matched by the other male dancers Although there is no spotlight, your are immediately transfixed on his body moves. His flowing hair with each move brings his dance chemistry in to the air! He was a major dancer in many musicals...West Side Story being just one of many. He even had an on screen kiss with the legendary Marilyn Monroe. What a career he has left behind for all of us to enjoy. Btw, this song came out when I was in 10th grade. It has probably been over 50 years since I last heard this song and it brought me right back to Mc Nair high in Canada. Those were great years to be a teen (1970's)!!
That's Bobby Banas, a well known dancer/choreographer/actor in Los Angeles. The TV video clip is taken from "The Judy Garland Show" (1963) when they were dancing to the Shirly Ellis hit, "The Nitty Gritty".
The man and his partner in the middle front both own it! They 're a little less rigid while making it look easy and fun, (always the goal on stage) which it is not.
That guy in the front ain't no joke. He has that extra compared to the others. Look at his hair compared to the others while he dances. I have no clue who he is but he's awesome
I agree! This is such a creative collaboration…only someone super talented would think to put the two together. It keeps popping up on my phone ever since I googled the song over the weekend…and watching it has put the biggest smile 😀 on my face ever day since!!
Yes, it is well created. I can't stop watching it. I was introduced to this a month ago and the dancing made me love the song more. My gen Z co-workers liked it too. Was sad to learn he died on Monday. 90 years old, Robert Banas.

Great song - rediscovered it recently and can’t get it out of my head. Like others have already pointed out, it was originally performed by Jigsaw (“You’ve blown it all sky high”). Did BD&H do any original songs? They did “Billy don’t be a hero”, which is a cover of Paper Lace’s original. Yeah, the dance was not to this song but fits well. Girl in front so cute.
Honestly thought this was a modern band doing a retro-styled song and video. I'm no dance historian but that dancing looks way ahead of its time to me.
Amazing dancers.. I'm a professional keyboard player and these dancers are super good. Watch the feet... Bo performed at my JHS in the 70's because we won some contest collecting bubble gum wrappers... It wasn't that great, but lot's of fun... This is the best version of the tune...
This song was written by the band Jigsaw. I had their two-album. There were many romantic songs in them. each one of the songs expresses the love of man and woman. Every lyric was beautiful and the melody is much it. I had been loving their songs, but only a few people recognized the band. Only knowing for them is song's name ''Sky High''. How poor their imagination is. they never know real romantic poet.

If the late Dan Ingram were still alive, he would probably today introduce the song "And Now, Bo Donaldson and The Heywoods and Who Do You Think You Are, or what San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York asked his head coach Chip Kelly right before he fired him!"
I've always loved this song, but the visual is very entertaining, as well. I'm wondering who the dancers were and the type of music they were performing with?
This version is really good ~ but I like the version by Jigsaw better. It's a great song!! Love those dancer! only in the 70's could or would they dance like that!!❤️
That is what makes this dance video so special. Although done in 1961, it can be applied to any song and it will feel current. Bob Banas was a very talented dancer/choreographer. I have to admit, this song felt like it was made for these dancers.
Clive Scott and Des Dyer of Jigsaw wrote this song, and Candlewick Green did a version, so did Jigsaw, much like Candlewick version, but Bo Donaldson still has, imo, the best version.
These dancers are not dancing to this song. They are dancing to The Nitty Gritty by Shirley Ellis. It's funny how someone was able to make it look like they are dancing to a different song.
@@grantkoeller8911 Thankyou! I've been trying to figure this one out for awhile. The Nitty Gritty! '63. I was four when that came out, 14 when Bo Donaldson did "Who Do You Think You Are?" Puzzle solved!

Bob Banas, the energetic dancer in the front, passed away July 29, 2024 at the age of 90. He had a great career.
He was something else, just all energy. RIP Bob.
Bob was a chimney sweep in the Mary Poppins movie a jet in the original West Side Story film and danced with Ann Margret in a few of her movies.
😢
I just love the dancers they also look fantastic. The young man in the middle steals the show. Two thumbs up for the whole crew.
