The friendship between Ruyi and Ling Yunche was so pure. It was sullied by the emperor’s bullying. Ling Yunche is such a tragic character. I pity and respect him at the same time because even after suffering so much injustice, he never turned black. He was that same brave and loyal soldier who protects the weak and vulnerable. He was in every way more man than the emperor was.
I’m surprised he didn’t get his country into crazy wars all of the time, with how easily he would believe when someone came to him saying “omg, Ruyi is totally cheating on you, and killing your children, and killing other children, and doesn’t love you” when Ruyi proved time and time again that she is one of the most honest, loving women in all of the palace, if not all of the country. She put up with watching her aunt die so she could garner the throne, being forced into the cold palace despite knowing she was innocent and the emperor knowing she was innocent, wearing a bracelet that caused infertility for years, having multiple attempts on her life by other palace women and men, watching her husband fall out of love with her, watching her friends die, her closest male companion aside from the emperor be stripped of his manhood and be embarrassed and forced to die because of the emperor’s jealously, suffering tuberculosis, shame for wanting to divorce, and in the end, she still loved the emperor deeply. His own mother kept telling him that he needing to treat Ruyi better. His men told him to treat her better. Even some of the women would say “you know the only person who truly, deeply loves you and would ever love you is Ruyi, right?” But nah, it just takes some jealous men and women to convince this Big Bad Emperor that Ruyi doesn’t love him. The palace should’ve just overthrown the emperor and have Ruyi and Hailan rule the empire.
In fact, although the national power was still very strong during his administration, technology and culture became very blocked, which made China miss the period of the Industrial Revolution and caused a series of tragic casualties after the Opium War in 1840. Feudal monarchy is toxic.

What makes me most angry is that it was almost like a brotherly love that Ling Yunche had for Ruyi. He admired her greatly and she for him as he protected her as his duty. Ruyi’s demeanor and Grace were to be admired, yet no one could do so without suspicion of a jealous man.

All of the acting is excellent. I can't help myself, I hate all the evil of certain characters. The emperor lost q woman who loved him ,from the first time she saw him. It was a loss that he didn't cherish. if it could happen you would want the Ruyi and King Yunrich to be together. The race to be the Crown Prince was very intense. The series was so great. The costumes we're beautiful ,the cinematography everything was so enjoyable.etc. I have watch it so many times. I would love to find another drama, that could compared to it.
I just don’t understand why the emperor never investigated the cheating rumors about Ruyi and Ling Yunche. He can dispatch spies if he wants to watch them and report back to him if they were really having an affair. Instead he chooses to believe every single random rumor like an idiot.
