  • Welcome, students, teachers, parents and pop-up fans, POP-UP SCHOOL is well under way! It's been a new way for me to share with you how to make simple pop-ups, step by step with easy-to-print templates.
For those of you new to making pop-ups, I've made things easy for you to get started. Just download the lesson templates, print them out on cardstock (110 lb. cardstock works best), cut out and build!
This video will teach you how to build pops that use rotating elements, collectively called rotators. These two are a twister and a twister with extenstions. Real creative names, right? Any how, these mechanisms can be great to use, but be warned - they can also be finicky & tricky to assemble! Be sure to pay attention to how they’re built in this video!
    Download the template here:

There are MANY more POP-UP SCHOOL lessons to come in the future, so stay tuned. Good luck, class! Comment below if you have any suggestions for future crafts!
Please feel free to send me pictures or videos of the pop-ups you create from my Pop-Up Master Class videos - because I want to see them! Tag me in any photos you would like me to see on the social media links posted below, but please be sure that you ask for a parent's permission first before you post beforehand if you are a kid.
Please send comments to my Instagram ( / matthewcreinhart ) or Facebook page ( / mrpopups ) or email me at my website MatthewReinhart.com (matthewreinhart.com/) if you have any suggestions for future lessons or DIY pop-up crafts. FINALLY!!! You've demystified the pop & twist mechanism for me! And thank you for the downloadable pattern, too! I'm going to print 2 copies. One for play & one for keeping as a pattern. I especially love how your mechanism has interlocking arms across the middle. It's unique from the others I've seen.

    Dear Mr. Reinhart,
I beg you to believe me when I say that I am a great admirer of your works, for which I give you the most sincere compliments, as they have really raised the standard of pop up books. But I would like to make a constructive observation to you: today I received "Star Wars: The Ultimate Pop-Up Galaxy by Matthew Reinhart", and it is really amazing what you make simple paper do, but maybe these wonderful books of yours are also becoming a little too "difficult" to browse, because too often (I noticed this for example already with the second Harry Potter book), if they are not constructed in a more than perfect way their pop ups do not work very well well, many times when the book is new it happens that you have to be very careful to activate the most complex pop-ups and you must already know what they will do to help them do the right thing. You must always be very careful when closing the pages (much more than usual I mean - even compared to your previous books). In short ... these last books are less relaxing to leaf through and surely there must always be an adult and very precise person who knows pop ups .... but this is fine with me .... only, as a collector, I would like the increase in the quality of your fantasy and the magic of your pop ups to be matched by an equally high attention in the construction of them (which obviously I know that you certainly cannot do it alone). However, I renew my congratulations to you for your pioneering skills in this field and I am sure you will be able to improve further.
    Thanks for your time!
