The chest of sorrow is more of a shocker. When you go down to check supplies and realise you have nearly sunk and cant find a hole XD. I heard it crying while carrying it but It took me a while to clock it was leaking water
Yesterday, while returning to the outpost, I've spotted one randomly floating around. Not knowing what it was (I started playing just one week ago) I've casually picked it up to drop it to the merchants and chucked it with the rest of the loot. I also had some explosive keg with me. I must be the luckiest pirate that ever crossed the Sea of Thieves because, somehow, I've managed to sell it to the treasures' guy without even realizing it was a ticking bomb.
If the waves are strong enough, a thin layer of water on the bottom will do the job and not boil. The barrel thing looks a lot safer though. It's a fun chest but Chest of Sorrow is still the most dangerous one tbh
The trick I used is dangerous but not as dangerous. You just hold the chest and sit on the ladder as your crew sails back to safety thus not filling the boat
When we first got one of these we realized it looked like the chest of sorrow. I had the thought of "Well crap, what if it explodes on us" so I put it in the crow's nest. It then exploded, like I thought, and then caught the entire Brig on fire.
Great tips @phuzzybond. I figured out a great trick to store the chest of rage. I put it right next to a hole in the hull. As the water splashes in, it collects and as the chest heats up it burns off the water which also cools the chest. Presto! The chest never explodes and the hold never gets filled up with water (boiling or otherwise). The best place to do this is by a hole near the bow as it’s the first place where water accumulates. Obviously on a galleon do this on the lower deck.

Im a new player and I found this chest. I stored it in my ship and didnt know that this chest can cause fire. I opened yt to see where can I sell it, clicked on this video and you mentioned about fire and at the exact moment my ship started to burn.
Phuzzy thanks for the awesome content, I found a way to handle the Chest of Sorrows, I thought I would share it here: You will need two people for this! After acquiring and carrying the chest, mount the side ladder, go to the bottom rung and no higher, ride to an outpost.... profit! No water gathers in the ship!
The most toxic way to use a chest of rage in pvp is when you get on an enemy ship ladder and simply drop the chest, causing it to enter the ship wall and permanently keep the ship in danger (only works for gallons)
I just finished the tutorial and then was heading back from a quest and found all this loot including the chest of rage. I had no I idea bringing that on my ship would doom me
I found out when sailing on any ship that merely 1 bucket of sea water is enough for the chests to not burn the ship. Just sayin'. Great videos bro! I've learnt a lot from you!
LOL wow my brother and I found a chest of Rage last night not knowing what it was and just put it below deck. Entire ship BURST into flames and we're rushing to put it out when I had the idea to just jump into the water with it. He was able to put out the fires while I left the chest to float in the water - then we had to constantly stop every so often to dump water on it until we made it back to sell. Most fun I've had in the game so far. I'm glad I came back to this game after I gave up on it when it first released.
Randomly dug up my first one from either a note in a barrel, or a note dropped by a regularly spawning skelly captain. Was going to be dumb and do 3 gh vaults solo sloop with emissary but fire makes everything better. Stuck it on the barrel at the end of the bottom deck, 7 sea water buckets should be fine yeah?
The holes are a temporary glitch that will be fixed at some point. It started a couple of months ago when they changes the way harpoons act when getting hit with a cannonball.

Today was my 2nd day of playing SoT, and for my great luck i found 2 of these on Island. So super happy i packed them on boat and returned for another chest... When i finished and want to go back i have only seen my ship in flames. Still good video tho
I found one in an area where a ship sank. I had never seen one but I knew there was such a thing because I read about them. Fearing the chest would destroy the ship, I put the chest in a rowboat and rowed my way to an outpost. It wasn't easy, I had to row through a thunderstorm. I was trying to get to Galleons Grave, instead I ended up in Dagger Tooth, where I sold the chest. Unfortunately someone sank my ship while I was in the rowboat but it was worth it in the end.
This does require a ship with a crew of at least 2 but: Have one person on the ships ladder so they're Bobbing in and out of the water and this will cool the chest
i just put it at the tip of the nose of the ship, the aoe doesn't set fire to anything else and if you want you can use 1 bucket every few minutes to put the nose out, no big deal, if u want to be extra caution, take it off when going onto an island leaving it in the water on the beach and then put it on again when you come back
Doesn't really work that well on a sloop. It puts 2 holes in the hull for some reason. Works great on a brig... But you only need 3 buckets, unless you take the water from the barrel in which case you need more.
they must've changed it in the last update. I also noticed in the sloop it now damages the hull upon explosion when using this method. It used to work in the past

I got a brigantine and me and my two friends all bought dukes 3 free rage quests and did all of them since the quests can only be on two islands you barely have to travel when we were done we had 9 chests of rage tons of magmas grail and villainous bounty and cannonball crates we then sold all of it to the outpost getting 80k gold and tons of xp for merchant, gold hoarders, and order of souls it’s been the most efficient way of gold farming I’ve found
My technic, sometime, take the chest, go down the scale, wait to heard the chest hit the water, and you're done. For the chest of sorrows, I like to sacrifice a friend with a harpoon rowboat
I’ve been playing this game for 2 months, got pirate legend about 2 weeks ago, stolen 3 chests of legends from pirates at Fort of the Damned, done several Athena voyages, and still have yet to even see a Chest of Rage. I should probably spend more time in the Devil’s Roar
I knew about the strategy of a layer of water and chest on barrel on a Galleon. I tried to do that on a Sloop with it on the same barrel shown in the video before having seen this video. While it kept my ship from catching fire, it did create a few holes in my ship. I'm unsure if this was added in during an update in the past 2 years since this video, but still.
There was an issue with this a few months back, it was a hug that was fixed, currently this shouldn't happen. Chest if rage is not supposed to cause holes on the ship from it's blast.
Really? Hmm, well I'll just have to experiment again next time I get a Rage Chest, nicknamed the Michael Bay chest by a group of friends I've played with.
chest of rage can be cooldown automatically with 1 bucket of water if your ship is going against the waves to make the ship go up the wave and then down the wave that way the water will go into the corner of the ship then back to the chest doing it this way shouldn't make the water boil I only have tested this with 2 chest of rage
we just put the chest at the tip of the bowsprit and ignore it. when it blows it'll only ignite the bowsprit which requires 1 quick bucket to extinguish. very little management, bucketing, etc. involved
if u have a small hole in the back of your sloop, and if you bucket the water from your ship every so often, fresh water will always be in the ship and wont boil, im pretty sure .
among my friends it has been dubbed the little bitch chest and has sunk my boat more times than any other pve related thing, so we don't take them anymore. ain't no body got time to hang off a ladder or leave it on the ship by accident when going onto an island

Well now i know what i have to do if i come across l another chest of rage that spawns with barrels in the water. Really though i found a chest of rage in the water with barrels around it. It's crazy i was thinking okay another grog chest or a castaways chest but no it was a freaking chest of rage.
I once found a chest of rage and stored it on my ship with a friend and within 3 minutes the bottom deck caught fire, we nearly lost the ship so after we put out the fire I threw the chest overboard because I didn’t know how to contain it.

What I like to do is have one crew mate hang off the boarding ladder down low an let the waves do the trick.

Well the fire and boiling was fine. Put a few really big holes in my ship though...

i made the mistake of gunpowder barrels on the crows nest with a chest of rage, there was so much fire

@@gage2189 yeah, prefer it personally. Also means that in pvp situations it's a lot easier to get the chest onto the enemy ship for comedy reasons

2 buckets of seawater on galleon and put the chest right next to the brig on the barrel it works
