Hi Katharine! I was hitting a wall with smoking for a long time. but 7 years ago, I broke down that wall and quit smoking. Now, I'm relearning English with the money which I've saved! This made me much happier. thanks!😃
A teacher is he or she who can make his or her teaching a fun.You are excellent example of such a teacher who can make her lessons real source of learning. Really sublime style of teaching. Thanks a lot
Sure. I really enjoyed watching and listening to your attractive presentation! They are very useful slangs to learn and use them actively! Teacher Katharine thank you so much indeed 😊!
This is one of your best videos, Katharine. I feel a keen interest in the British way of life and language expressions used in daily social interactions. Your lessons contribute a lot to my understanding of them. Thanks a lot. ❤
First of all, I was buzzing to see you again in this amazeball Friday 🙈. We reached a new month! Isn't wonderful, my darling 😊❤? And after centuries and centuries to searching the translation... finally, I can translate 'mal del puerco 🐷' thanks to this slang (5:15 slump). 'Me dio el mal del puerco' (I'm having a slump) in your example, and that we use in Mexico 😂. As always, you look beautiful and radiant 😍. Hope you are doin' well and I wish you a marvelous weekend, too, Katharine 🥰. Thanks for the video and you rock!
In the US, I have occasionally heard "fiver" being used for a five-dollar bill, but "fin" is more common. A one-dollar bill is a "buck," a two-dollar bill is a "deuce," a 10-dollar bill is a "sawbuck,' a 20-dollar bill is a "double-sawbuck," a "dub" or a "Hamilton" (from Alexander Hamilton's picture on the bill). A 100-dollar bill is a "C-note" (from the Roman numeral for 100), a "Cecil," a "Franklin" or a "Benny" (from Benjamin Franklin's picture). A 1,000-dollar bill is a "kilobuck."
Hi Kath, my beautiful, my very unique rose of England! 🌹😊 Every Friday morning it's like I'm buzzing because I know it's 'Katharine day' and Kath-time is approaching with a new fairy and enchantment! :-) I love slang. Slang is complicated in that it evolves and changes very quickly with the generations and it's difficult to stay afloat sometimes even in your own language, but some expressions are thankfully persistent and it's good to be aware of them to understand the natives. Daft (as a brush;-)' is a great one. Serge Gainsbourg once said: "La connerie, c'est la décontraction de l'intelligence. So, sometimes, I consciously allow myself to be stupid". In the same way as him, I sometimes fancy to be 'daft as a brush' ;-) and you? ... Bob's your uncle' is a classic one; the origin of the expression is interesting; I believe it refers to an Irish politician called Robert (Bob) who committed an act of nepotism by hiring his nephew to an important position even though the latter had no special skills for the job; by extension, 'Bob's your uncle' came to designate something easy, easily acquired: 'there you have it!' basically, simply and without much effort. I wonder which is your fave local in west sussex and in your area that you evoked; It seems there are so many in the area, my guess would be the 'Black 🐰' perhaps? ... Wish I could have a pie and a good beer with you there someday and exchange a few words. 'Codswallop' is such a great slang word! It has now my preference over 'poppycock' or the more usual 'rubbish' or the american 'B.S.' ;-) I'm not fundamentally a conspiracy theorist either, and that largely depends on the subject; we mustn't give in to paranoia, but we mustn't forget either that certain conspiracies were a historical reality. It's always a good idea not to trust the systemic and official discourse, and to vary your sources of information (very important to avoid confirmation bias) in order to form your own opinion. Also, have you noticed that nowadays 'the bigger it is, the more it gets across'? There's often a sort of reversal of the charge, with those who are dishonest and corrupt now accusing their detractors a little too easily of being 'conspirators' ('complotistes' in French); it's become convenient in some way to discredit the truth-seeker. So we must remain cautious and alert. I've hit a wall recently because, for some reason that escapes me and bothers me greatly, I can no longer publish or comment on my English poetry site because, following an update to the site, I received a strange security alert; I've informed them and am waiting for the rest ... Thank you for the very interesting 'slump' and above all 'lurgy' (not 'lurdgee' I would probably have said) which I didn't know. 'I've got the lurgy' will be for me an excellent alternative to the perhaps too usual, common and agreed 'I'm under the weather...' 👍 Is a 'hen party' the female counterpart of a 'bachelor party' celebrating leaving celibacy or is it used for any feast between girls only? ... Mickey does seem to know when you're filming indeed 😂 and maybe, by barking, he is manifesting his 'FOMO' in his own way, go figure! ... Hahah Great lesson Katharine. I'd like to add that I love this new summer dress, which is very stylish and undoubtedly lighter than usual, and shows you off to your best advantage. You look so beautiful! Thank you, merci beaucoup Katharine! I have to love you and leave you now wishing you a beautiful and sunny weekend (a bit overcast in Lille today...) Bisous bisous, I fancy you, Love 😘🌹❤❤❤
