After watching this documentary and seeing the sheer amount of time and work that goes into producing top shelf cigars, I can now appreciate why they cost as much as they do.
What's really crazy is that seeing these processes, in order to maintain the quality and precision, I can't imagine how they could make it less labor intensive. It's just a complicated and very delicate process that relies on a lot of intangible factors and intuition.

As none smokers we knew very little about tobacco products or cigarette/cigar making, so we viewed this documentary with innocent interest. We were immediately struck by the complexity of the whole cigar making process, the time involved in preparing the leaf, to arriving at the final end product, and just how labour intensive each stage of manufacture is. We had no idea it was so precise, staged and regulated. The quality assurances and personal attention to detail given in each element of making a cigar is captured so well by this documentary and goes a long way to explaining why cigars can be so expensive to buy. One is buying a labour of love from an investment made over many years of production. We were also struck by the enthusiasm shown both by the growers and by Bespoke Unit in capturing the diversity of the manufacturing chronology so well and editing it in a way that holds the attention of the viewer. For 90 minute documentary to hold the attention of the viewer right until the very end says a lot about how the subject matter is portrayed and how it has been so carefully edited from what must have been mountainous volumes of raw footage shot to produce this visual progression of the cigar manufacture. We also liked to clip edit opportunity to view edited sectionalised segments of the video to refresh a memory of a particular process, should the need arise. Will this documentary tempt two none smokers to become cigar smokers? Probably not, but what it has done is advance our understanding of what is far from a straightforward process, from, as Bespoke Unit identify in their title...." from seed to smoke" Well done Bespoke Unit a thoroughly enjoyable and well crafted documentary. Awesome. Born and raised in Tampa, Florida (7th and Morgan), Cigars and tobacco are a normal part of life. Coffee too. So, to share with folks all that goes into the making of a cigar, and how enjoying cigars benefits so many people, what's not to love? When you're paying $10 dollars for a cigar, you're getting a deal. And because we only smoke them from time to time, it isn't that expensive either. And so enjoyable. One of my favorites is in the morning, with good coffee, I'll start a cigar, drink my coffee, and do my morning reading. Then later that night, I'll finish this cigar, after dinner, usually while doing more reading. That's good living. And in Tampa, its quite normal. :-)
It really is astounding that they have a man there that intimately knows each and every facet of the business from the sowing of the seeds to the structure of the cellophane that swaddles the cigar… This is a great documentary.

This was an excellent production. I'm just getting into cigars and this is making me appreciate the product I get and all the work that goes into it. Great job!
Thank you, Paul! 👏🏼 You've given me some serious insight and the utmost regards for the noble cigar companies. Consistency and perfection is what they sell, not trash like cigarettes! I'm glad I recently picked up a cigar as a gag and realized I enjoyed it more than any cigarette in a long, long time. I've tried everything to quit smoking cigarettes and to be honest, I never tried cigars! I am a chain smoker because I never get to the point to where I feel satisfied by it. I went from 2+ packs per day all the way down to 19 cigarettes to 24 on the worse day tops... That's less than one week at 5 days with the ability to go 12+ hours without a cigarette. In another week, I'll hopefully be free of that cigarette curse to enjoy a cigar from time to time. Cigars give me the nicotine and depending upon the cigar, slowly to quite fast. It's just like the first time I started smoking and it breaks the constant craving to chain smoke without thought. I can literally put the cigar down and walk away, saving it for later. It really makes smoking enjoyable and not a pipe dream to where you never feel satiated. If only more cigarette smokers would take the step and run from cigarettes to cigars, their lives wouldn't be ruled by them. The last week has been a real eye opener for sure and this video did more to solidify my choice. They're not treating their tobacco with tars and other addictive chemicals... It's literally the basics, care, and nothing more. I noticed over the years that the nicotine isn't there anymore and there's zero enjoyment to cigarettes... The tar is what cigarettes are pumping out and the less they can disrupt the chain by not allowing one to reach that point to where you feel the nicotine, the more chain smokers they can create. It's now completely obvious to me that the two products are completely different in every possible way.
Agree. I myself had also been a cigarette smoker for 5 years since I was 18. When I was introduced to the world of cigars, I found myself just satisfied and mindblown finding out that this is what tobacco is supposed to taste like. It's not nasty like cigarettes. It's not craving that I feel anymore, it's just appreaciation and gratitude that there are people that took the time to hone the skills of planting, harvesting, fermenting, and rolling fine tobacco products.
I watched this a year ago and it is still very enjoyable and satisfying. Klass knows everything about the genetics, rain patterns, seed, to leaves, wrapping, smoking, its amazing. Klass should teach a class on genetic and business. I could listen to this man talk about business all day.
Absolutely amazing documentary! I actually blend my own cigarettes from whole leaf tobacco and thought i knew a little about tobacco in general. Turns out i don’t know much at all! To see the level of attention and craft that goes into not only the growing and curing of the leaf but the actual production of the cigar really blew me away. This is every bit as complex and detail oriented as wine and has given me a new appreciation for cigars. I’ve shared it with every cigar smoker i know because i know that everyone who has even a casual interest in cigars will love it. Bravo gents!
Thanks very much for your kind words and support! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed it and that you're sharing it around. Indeed, cigars is far more complex than one might expect. Wine is a great comparison as they both share a lot in common. Best, CP
The Escurio and Winston Churchill series are awesome. Some of their stores have a limited edition you can only physically buy there, I recommend those too.
This guy is brilliant. He really knows everything about cigar production. Thank you for making this documentary I seriously gained so much more appreciation of why cigars are priced the way they are.
An amazing journey. A rare treat for serious cigar lovers. Behind the scenes looks and deep insights into all aspects of Davidoff cigar production. Beautifully shot, cleanly edited, and easy to follow. Thanks Davidoff and Bespoke Unit Productions.
How impressive. What a study in professionalism. One of the few remaining industries (and companies) where the business and the passion intermingle beautifully and leave no room for doubt. Such a pleasure to watch!
Absolute best film on the cigar making process. The Kelners are truly tobacco guru's. It's very impressive how much they know. Klaas lays it out so well. Bravo!
This documentary is awesome! I can’t believe it was on TH-cam! This explain a lot about why Davidoff cigars are SO good, and pricey. I’d be interest to see a doc on a manufacturer like San Cristobal or Oliva which aren’t cheap, but are a completely different price compared to Davidoff to see how well they care for everything. I know each manufacturer prides itself on how well they take care of the tobacco and both of those brands are good, but it’d be interesting to see the differences.
What a wonderful documentary of the skill needed for the PLEASURE of the one that enjoys a GREAT cigar. Very englighting, Thank you to all the presenters.
@@Alextudorache38 I worked at a tobacco store in the 90's. If we had any broken or damaged cigars, the manager would inspect them and give them to the employees to smoke. I got to believe that the employees regardless of position have all the cigars they want as there are always rejects.

I feel so much gratefulness for these workers, not making much money but you can see how grateful and hard-working they are. These rollers are top notch, such a hard craft to master
I enjoy this documentary so, so much. I also like seeing Klaus walking around with like $150 worth of cigars in his front pocket! My question is: how many Davidoff cigars did you guys smoke? At $25-$30 each here in Maryland, it had to have been a small fortune!
Amazing video. Loved every step of the process and every little detail explained. After watching this video, I will forever be amazed that the prices are more than fare vs that is an expensive stick; given all the time, expertise, dedication and passion for the craft, that goes into each and every stick...AMAZING VALUE!!! So thankful for what each and every one of you do daily (for years), so that I can sit down with friends for a few hours of enjoyment, with your excellent product! Keep up the passionate efforts!

I make a point of learning something new everyday. I knew nothing about cigars and this documentary has truly opened my eyes. What an inspirational journey you have taken me on this moning. Apart from the level of knowledge, learning and science that Davidoff have in abundance there is so much more to it. The human qualities of using all our senses are evident through every stage from seeds to finished product. Yet there is even more to the story. It is a true passionate love for their product and a total commitment to producing the finest creation possible to achieve. Thank you for the education.
excellent documentary and very insightful I am not a smoker but I enjoy the aroma of a good cigar a well as a pipe, I hope that anti-smokers would watch this and realize this is an all-natural product and not like a cigarette which is full of chemicals. I may buy a few Davidoffs just to enjoy the aroma of the cigars.
Thanks Kirby, means a lot from a professional TH-cam channel like yours. Hope we can do something together on the video front in the near future. Cheers - Paul
There is just so many steps, and so many people involved. Its much more complicated yet muvh more understood than i ever imagined. Amazing doc. Thanks so much for this vid
I really enjoyed watching this video as I was smoking a Davidoff Yamasa this morning at 5am with a nice iced coffee. As I watch the cigar rollers cutting the cigars, I noticed the cigar being cut way to much. I just wish instead of wasting all that cut, for Davidoff to make cigars a little bigger (longer), not only to save the cigar from wasting too much cutting, but to enjoy a longer cigar as well.
An early bird enjoying his worm... Or in this case a cigar! I think there's are reasons for that. Firstly, the vitolas are set to standardise the sizes so they can all fit in the same box etc. Secondly, I believe that they are cut because the part that is discarded isn't completely full of filler. If it was kept, it may be soft, burn badly, and be missing some of the blend's flavours.
Klass Kelner is amazing, I could just listen to him all day talking about cigars. The knowledge and passion is 👌 makes you really appreciate the art and the science involved. Recently I have become fascinated with cigars, had a few "showboat" smokes when I was younger but looking forward to my first real smoke now that the palate is maturing.
For the cost of the one prematurely broken leaf - they just sold numerous cigars. I want nothing more at this moment, having just finished this excellent doc, than to have a Davidoff cigar!
There's no replacement for commitment to quality and pride of workmanship. These qualities are becoming rare in many industries, but cifar making seems to be the exception.
Awesome video guys! Definitely one of the better tobacco company videos. If we're lucky we'll see a few more, like Fuente, Black Label Trading Company, Padilla and so on.
Having this Signature Davidoff laying in the box for over a year (even God loves gifts) I've decided to start my day with this documentary... Having the opportunity to taste all this beauty while watching the craftmentship of the way of the given cigar - just a great way to start a day.

@@Bespokeunit that's what I like to see.
A wonderful look into one of the most under rated arts left in the world, cigar making. The quality and standards of this product is simply amazing! Any one who enjoys a great cigar will enjoy this documentary!
What a journey...never knew so much of love involved in producing good quality cigar... definitely will appreciate every cigar I hold in my hand after watching this
Delighted that you enjoyed it and you learned something from our film
EXCELLENT CLIP!!!
Been to Dominican Republic !!!
Smoked quite alot of cigars over there...
And DAVIDOFF are still the ones I prefer!!!
Great to hear and thanks for the kind words!
Excellent documentary! 👍🏽
Thank you kindly!
This video is absolutely incredible. Amazing work.
As someone who's just getting into cigars, this is the exact video I was looking for. I'm less than 10 minutes in, and I'm already blown away, excellent job!
Thanks, Angelo! Delighted that you're benefitting from it!
@@Bespokeunit Make the next one in 4K lol.
@@AngeloGiles We made some mistakes and learned from them. If we ever make another documentary, we hope to build on it! Not sure if we can do 4k but we'll give it a go!
@@Bespokeunit Sounds good, and thank you for actually responding as many creators will shy away from that the bigger you get, which I understand, but it's nice to see that you're engaging with the audience.
Hey, Angelo. It's your pal Benjamin. I've been smoking cigars for almost a year. This is a great documentary.
This was an excellent production. I'm just getting into cigars and this is making me appreciate the product I get and all the work that goes into it. Great job!
The art and magic of cigar craft... Wow!
Thank you, Paul! 👏🏼
You've given me some serious insight and the utmost regards for the noble cigar companies.
Great to see that you've come back after all this time! Glad that you've enjoyed the documentary so much!
Wow! Great job on this video. I've been on this same tour and spent time with Davidoff and you guys did a marvelous job capturing the entire process.
Thanks, the support is much appreciated! I'm sure that you'll agree that it's one hell of a ride!
This video kept me hooked the whole time. It made me appreciate, more than ever, the journey a premium cigar makes.
Best,
CP
Klaas is a true master craftsman. I can't wait to enjoy my first Davidoff
Never had one of their cigars, but I’ll be buying one this weekend
The Escurio and Winston Churchill series are awesome. Some of their stores have a limited edition you can only physically buy there, I recommend those too.
This guy is brilliant. He really knows everything about cigar production. Thank you for making this documentary I seriously gained so much more appreciation of why cigars are priced the way they are.
I agree. He's not even explaining it in his native language. I heard him also say tobacco is my 4th language, I wonder what other languages he knows
An amazing journey. A rare treat for serious cigar lovers. Behind the scenes looks and deep insights into all aspects of Davidoff cigar production. Beautifully shot, cleanly edited, and easy to follow. Thanks Davidoff and Bespoke Unit Productions.
Thank you for the kind words!
How impressive. What a study in professionalism. One of the few remaining industries (and companies) where the business and the passion intermingle beautifully and leave no room for doubt. Such a pleasure to watch!
Delighted that you enjoyed it!
Just tried the Traveller Ltd. Edition 2019. Amazing smoke. Loved the video, and it's clear to see why Davidoff produce such an amazing end product.
Glad to hear that you enjoyed it!
What a wonderful documentary of the skill needed for the PLEASURE of the one that enjoys a GREAT cigar. Very englighting, Thank you to all the presenters.
Great to hear that you enjoyed it
Amazing video. It's great to see they seem to have true appreciation for their employees
Delighted that you enjoyed it!
What amazed me most is that HUGH fields of plants and huge drying barns of leaves and they can still keep the tobacco fairly consistent!! MIND BLOWN!!
I love how Klaas had like $200 worth of cigars chilling in his pocket lol
Haha! true!
@Steven Hickman I think he knows a guy that knows a guy....
I love how he didn't have them anymore after a while, probably giving one for each worker...
@@Alextudorache38 I worked at a tobacco store in the 90's. If we had any broken or damaged cigars, the manager would inspect them and give them to the employees to smoke. I got to believe that the employees regardless of position have all the cigars they want as there are always rejects.
@@patrickbdunlap it also helps with quality and training if your staff use and enjoy your product too
i worked in a vaping store yes WORLDS DIFFERENT
but i was given access to the entire stores lineup of devices and flavours to use at my disposal i could get liquids at or below wholesale value to us i could take display moddels out of the cabinets and use them it all helped the staff to build expertese that you just cant get from doing training workshops if a customer has a question i know the answer cause ive used the product i know the features i know the flavours
also being a user i know what the customer wants when they asked me a question like oh i want something with a little softer hit i knew what that meant what product they tried and what aspect of that product they identified as not enjoying and can use my knowledge of the products to find something that meets there needs
same for this i must imagine but on the manufacturing side its must be hard to explain why one green leaf is not as good as the next but if you can show them hey this leaf here is in this cigar if you try it youll see how this charecteristic is present ect see how doing this affected this and it builds there knwoledge
plus its nice to look after your staff if there happy they work harder because they care because you care
and besides a cigar that doesent meat the sale standards isnt a bad cigar it just might be that little bit below the standard and rather than waste it let the employees enjoy it
Klaas Kelner really impressed me with his vast knowledge of cigar production and his ability to explain it. What a resource he must be! Thank you for this production. Now, I need to start trying some Davidoff cigars!
Klaas is indeed a wealth of knowledge! His first-hand (and truly quite unique) experience makes it very enjoyable listening to him go through the involved Davidoff process. I have no doubt that you'll enjoy a Davidoff much more thoroughly after having seen how they are crafted from top to bottom.
He explained everything in Layman's language which is why you loved it 😉
I feel so much gratefulness for these workers, not making much money but you can see how grateful and hard-working they are. These rollers are top notch, such a hard craft to master
After many years of practice, these are indeed the best in the business.

I enjoy this documentary so, so much. I also like seeing Klaus walking around with like $150 worth of cigars in his front pocket!
My question is: how many Davidoff cigars did you guys smoke? At $25-$30 each here in Maryland, it had to have been a small fortune!
they probably got them for free as a guest. In Austria and Germany they go for more than 20€ as well btw.
Yes, I smoke 50 a month but only Punch,Oliva, RYJ,
Speechless. Spectacular presentation!!!!
Thank you to all who make my experience GREAT, every time I light up!
So thankful for what each and every one of you do daily (for years), so that I can sit down with friends for a few hours of enjoyment, with your excellent product!
Keep up the passionate efforts!
Dear Rob,
Thank you for your kind words.
Any 100% agreed, being grateful to all those who work on the world of fine tobacco.

Brilliant and most informative video on tobacco and cigar production
Dear Ben,
Thank you very much for your kind words.
We had such an amazing time filming this documentary and hope we gave a small window into this true craft industry.

You have to treat these makers out some night for their efforts. Respect to these makers for their passion, pride and work that goes Into your Indulgences.
What a wonderful display of patience and pride in a noble craft. I love learning about crafts that just use our hands and knowledge.
Glad that you enjoyed our video, Brad!
Finally a good Montage 😎
We can now sit down and enjoy ur Documentaries with a cigar.
Good Job 👍🏼
Thanks
Thanks! We got there eventually!
Thanks for your kind words, Ade! Delighted that you learned something from our film!
excellent documentary and very insightful I am not a smoker but I enjoy the aroma of a good cigar a well as a pipe, I hope that anti-smokers would watch this and realize this is an all-natural product and not like a cigarette which is full of chemicals. I may buy a few Davidoffs just to enjoy the aroma of the cigars.
Dear Ben, thank you for the kind words and we couldn't agree more! Cheers Paul
This guy seems like a master of his craft
Awesome video!!
Good eye! I agree.
This is the greatest documentary on TH-cam 😭❤️
Who ever took the time to film this thank you i always wanted to know how cigars are made and the growing time now i know thank you
That was us and you're very welcome!
Couldn't agree more! Glad that you enjoyed the video. Let us know what you go for or whether you need any recommendations to help your palate evolve!

For the cost of the one prematurely broken leaf - they just sold numerous cigars. I want nothing more at this moment, having just finished this excellent doc, than to have a Davidoff cigar!
Amazing documentary, I love the detail of the whole process.
Much appreciated! Thanks for the kind words.
There's no replacement for commitment to quality and pride of workmanship. These qualities are becoming rare in many industries, but cifar making seems to be the exception.
Damn, school is now in session. I never knew the process was that involved. It makes you appreciate the smoke more.
Right? The whole experience had a similar effect on us!
It is a complicated process, but make no mistake about it, very few brands go to the effort that Davidoff does. That's why they cost so much.
excellent, informative and a must to watch. I have smoked cigars for 30 plus years and quite impressed with this documentary.
Thanks, Mike! Much appreciated!
Awesome video guys! Definitely one of the better tobacco company videos. If we're lucky we'll see a few more, like Fuente, Black Label Trading Company, Padilla and so on.
Thanks, Jenny! Much appreciated! We had a blast filming it
I'd like to see montecristo or Romeo and julieta or my h upman
Having this Signature Davidoff laying in the box for over a year (even God loves gifts) I've decided to start my day with this documentary...
Having the opportunity to taste all this beauty while watching the craftmentship of the way of the given cigar - just a great way to start a day.
Sounds like a fantastic way to start your day!
Great video, Well made and informative. Thanks for taking the time to make this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
