    Thank you so much for these videos!! I was there 96-97, and worked the switchboard, El Tovar front desk, and Mather Campground! Thanks for so many memories!!!

    Thank you for making this video. I work in Yosemite and it was great seeing how another park's workers live.

    I always assumed that most people who worked and lived in National Parks did did it primarily because they like being in close to nature and are outdoor-types. That was very informative. Keep up the good work on your videos.

    So THIS is where I prob. would have lived, had I taken that job my college adviser told us about! That was in 1995...rather wishing I'd had gone thru now. The isolation wouldn't bother me one bit! Hindsight is always 20/20 lol.
    THANKS for sharing this!

    What is the other church denomination?

    • @canyonraven126
      @canyonraven126  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a Catholic Church and a Community Church (protestant). LDS also keeps a separate office in the multi purpose community church building.

    interesting. That building with the tractor parked looks like an old gas station .

    • @canyonraven126
      @canyonraven126  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I think they still use the gas pump for tractors.

    I got on the housing authority list there, but they told me I'd have to live there to be considered first for an apt. I need to find a roommate situation. someone who likes a cat:) oops, I mean Flagstaff, not Grand Canyon Village.

    where do married couples with children live?

    • @canyonraven126
      @canyonraven126  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on their job status. Ive seen low status workers with families live in studio apartments (way too small), to managers with families living in big houses, and everything in between. Again, it mostly depends on the parents' position with the company.

    The NPS jeolously guards their turf. They control hundreds of miles of Colorado River banks, from below Hoover/Boulder Dam, up to Colorado, shared a little with BLM and the Indian nations. Page, AZ, was created by Dept. of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, starting in 1958, and incorporated as an Arizona municipality in 1976. Adjoining Big Water, UT was incorporated in 1976 from Glen Canyon City, an unincorpated county subdivision from 1958. The Grand Canyon residents should be allowed to form a municipal government, locally elected and representative. This helps deal with county, state and federal inter-govermental issues. Governments are formed by the informed consent of the governed, in the American model, not just imposed by land-owning interests. BLM complained bitterly about the Big Water incorporation, but this is ultimately a matter of state and not federal law. The people who work and live here deserve the right of local, self-government. Who speaks for the workers and residents of these federally held tourist meccas? NPS and their concession holders may run the show, but should they exclude democracy?
