Now, that's something that happens in the ghettos and hoods of the USA. We used to call it, a shakedown. Police just pull up outta no where and frisk you ... that's never supposed to happen in Mexico ... seems like Mexico is becoming more and more Americanized, not just the Gringo Prices but the prejudice, discriminative and racist mentality that runs deep in the fabric of the USA. I appreciate your realness and wisdom. Thanks for sharing, Bill.

Now I must say that there are many wonderful cops that I see everyday on my walk. They are very friendly and helpful. This was just a couple of cops trying to get money.

Its a shame when you can't trust law enforcement! Some are nothing more than bullies in uniform.....I'm glad you got through that trauma. Stay safe and stay BLESSED!👑⚘

Thanks for sharing. Maybe you need to wear a body camera (Like a lot of police officers do here)

You are so right. I have my Go Live button ready now. If they do it again, I will be live, internationally. Thanks much, Bill

Dodging the cops to avoid being harassed? Wow, sounds like life for a law-abiding young Black man in Philly circa 1975.

Wow I'm sorry 😔 that happened to you.. I kinda understand how you feel 😞. You can't trust anyone any more unfortunately. Same thing in South Africa. I was victimized 2x and the police wouldn't help me unless I paid them. i left there and came here and my rental agent and staff trespassed into my place and stole my jewelry and money. And no help from the police.
Im glad that you weren't harmed physically.
Sorry again but the silver lining is THE BEST IS YET TO COME.

I'm thinking of visiting Mazatlan this coming summer. I'm a little apprehensive because I'm a single retired woman. This is great info.

Hi Bill From Connecticut. Enjoy your informative videos. I plan to visit Mexico to see where is best for me to move. Heard prices are going up and dollar value going down. 😮That may ruin my purpose. How do I find a an Expat friend who'd like to help me? I ordered the Moving to Mexico Guidebook (that's not the right name 😂) I've learned from the youtube's that the areas ExPats are has increased the rents in that area. Don't want to be isolated, but need low rent for a 1 bed, 1 bath w kitchen furnished apt. How can I find a lady expat who will be willing to help me?
    Muchos gracious Senior! ❤

I went to Playa Del Carmen a few month back a local girl picked me up at the airport in Cancun...She said whatever you do dont call the police for anything even if its an emergency. They will not help you and more than likely try and shake you down...I lived in Lima Peru for 6 years and the police are bad but not this bad...

      Good work Bill,
It can happen anywhere. I feel very nervous when the Reno police get bored in there Robo SUVs or need to make buck on tickets or I wonder if they are surveiling us with superior technology . It feels weird and insecure, like be perfect all the time , don't slip up.
Always cooperate, always. You are more likely to be released in
      4 hours.

Police in Nevada is absolutely horrible . They're constantly abusing people, giving fake tickets and arrests @@anatitan5546

I will leave for Morelia on the 4th of July, 2024. The weather is great year round and the city is much more affordable, for me.

Thank you for bringing to light this unfortunate CON of Mexico. I've read about this issue and how it is very prevalent in CDMX, but an issue in many parts of Mexico. Have you or your acquaintances experienced this in Chapala / Ajijic? Do you think it is less likely to happen to elderly gringos or gringos walking/driving with elderly gringos?

      Hi MN,
I had a friend in Puerto Vallarta that this happened to, he went off on the cop, and the cop let him go. This has never happened to me before, only this one time here in Mazatlan. I think that groups walking are safe. I don´t know where these two cops that stopped us draw the line. Again, we were both alone, and there were no people or cars around.
      Be Safe,
      Bill

I wonder if it would be useful for you and your friend to report these incidents to CAPTA? If enough people report it the government is going to have to do something. They don't want bad reports from foreigners here.
